The weather is gloomy in Kansas and the news isn't any nicer for Miami defensive tackle Luther Robinson.
A UM official confirmed the junior from Fort Pierce was not on the travel roster for the Hurricanes' noon game at No. 21 Kansas State.
Robinson's father, Luther Robinson Sr., told the Sun Sentinel the issue began at Tuesday's practice.
“He had some type of type of disagreement with the coaches and was instructed to leave and Luther left,” Luther Robinson Sr., said. “That’s what he told me.”
Robinson Sr., denied published reports saying he snapped on the UM coaching staff.
He said he called to question why his son was in the “doghouse.” When defensive line coach Jethro Franklin called, Robinson Sr., said he requested to speak to coach Al Golden.
“I told [Franklin] I didn’t want to talk to him at the time and that was it,” he said.
The move thins an already scrutinized Miami defensive line. Curtis Porter, a first-teamer when camp opened, hasn't practiced in weeks with a non-football health issue.
That and questions surrounding redshirt freshman Corey King's health means Olsen Pierre could be without the two backups listed on the depth chart.
King was "making progress," coach Al Golden said Thursday. The West Boca Raton High product made the trip to Manhattan on Friday.
Sophomore Jalen Grimble and freshman Earl Moore are the reserves for Smith at the other tackle position.
Stability up the middle was a concern throughout August. Then the Canes lack of penetration at Boston College created more concern.
