SIAP- James Coley

Corey Raymond, Larry Johnson, Zac Etheridge, Demetrice Martin, Mike Reed, Travaris Robinson, JaJuan Seider, Sean Spencer, Terry Smith, Steve Clinkscale, Perry Eliano, Junior Adams, Frank Wilson, Torrian Gray, Brian Jean-Mary, Charlie Partridge, Sonny Cumbie & about 10 others I could name.

A lot of people can recruit, you guys just only see things from a limited scope. The best recruiter in the world is winning & money; win games & offer money & you’ll be surprised how many players you can sign.

But then there’s this other group of guys who can actually recruit AND coach... A mythical bunch they are.

If you want to make the point that bags and winning are really the most important thing, and prioritizing coaches that can recruit and coach em up to get a better end result then that's fair. But the majority of that list doesn't have the recruiting resume on paper as Coley.

If you deduced that Coley has been at programs that are easier to recruit at than some of these other guys ok, but theres a reason he was brought into those programs.

The infatuation with Coley isn't solely just the usual "Oh I know this guys name, lets get him" or the Miami loyalty **** you see all over this place.

It's also just the fact that the guy can recruit, and theres a great chance he'd love to be here. But if there are options that can recruit close to that level, make up for the difference in actual coaching/continuity, and would come here... by all means

My argument wasn’t in favor of any of the names I mentioned, I was asked if there were any other Coaches who had just as good if not a better recruiting resume than Coley, so I just listed a number of them off the top of my head.

The point I’m making, is there’s a lot of really good recruiters out there, people just for whatever reason have this fixation with the drooling over Coley every offseason as if he’s the only one that could ever recruit in South FL lol.

The funny part is recruiting South FL is actually one of the easiest jobs in the country for most programs, as long as you offer money to the right people & kiss up to the right HS coaches you can get practically anyone you want. **** Billy Napier used to crush it in South FL, it’s not as special as everyone makes it out to be. Miami has always struggled with it because we’ve been run by idiots for the last 20 years lol.

Count me in on all of that.

Best recruiter these days is money and winning. Produce players for the next level, you've got game.

We've got NIL deals, so we're good there. We need to start winning to get more bang for our buck.T hat'll lead to NFL production. So the big thing we need is coaching, scheme, and winning to land more and more talent.

You take care of that, any of us could recruit here or elsewhere.

Good point, Houston’s coaching staff had a Inside Receiver/TE coach position.

Coley was the TE coach at ATM before moving to WRs so he seems to be a good fit for an Inside WR/TE coach. Then maybe get an excellent technician for outside WR coach. Be nice if a good recruiter but not as critical due to Coley. Hankerson might be a good fit. Still can keep it to 11 coaches.

I remember we use to get the cub games on Channel 7 down here in Miami. Always confused me why we got them but either way Andre Dawson was the man.

Honestly, I blame the local media guys on the Coley stuff. Guys like Furman and Blu love to bring up how great Coley is and their listeners just run with it. I'm 100 percent with you. I'm tired of hearing his name and also I don't want him anywhere near the OC name. These clowns wanna give him the Co-OC name just give him a bump in salary. Who the he11 is he to deserve that? I also don't want him to be next in line if Duncan does well and leaves us for another job.

Am I though?

Randy Shannon is from South FL, played at Miami, coached at Miami, has a long history recruiting South FL & has been successful at it since leaving Miami, so why not bring him back if such a premium is placed on South FL recruiting that we should bring back Coley?

What’s the big difference between the two of them?
Coley is a better coach than Shannon. Coley is a better recruiter than Shannon. I’d go as far to say that he is a better coordinator than Shannon. He also didn’t sue the school or turncoat at every opportunity.

Mario would love Coley on staff. That’s very telling.

Simple. Because Coley is 10x the recruiter Shannon is. Coley is an elite SEC recruiter who can fight in the dirtiest fights and come out on top.

I want Coley but I’m biased lol.

But I have had this same thought about recruiting South Florida. Check out how kids transfer HS all the time. These kids just want to go to winning programs that will help them get to the next level. They do it in HS, so why wouldn’t they do that for college. It’s a business decision.

Let’s be honest, we haven’t been that for quite some time. So when a kid picks UGA, Bama or wherever over us, I get it. What have we had to offer to “a future pro” over the last 20 yrs. Location?

If we are 9-3 and put up points, our WR recruiting would look massively different. And it wouldn’t be because of the coach.

Also, we don’t get the same local love that other schools get. Where you want to go to school X, bc everyone in your family and town went there.

(Forgive any errors, I was rushing through this)
