Donofrio is 1000000x the coach that Shammin was. Shammin would have given up 1000 yards and 50 points and NO TURNOVERS with the raw sewage he left Golden.

He never had a team this devoid of talent and experience, particularly on the defensive line, the most critical part of the defense.

I disagree. You can't make judgments in a vacuum. Comparing Shannon's results to donofrio's w/o taking the talent level and depth into consideration is a false comparison.

Let me preface this by saying a lot of you guys know D'nofrio's history prior to UM. I admit i do not. I can only base my conclusion on what i have seen since he's been at UM. This guy is a better DC than Randy based on what? What I've seen so far is a lot of confusion/blown assignments and guys thinking too much instead of reacting. I love the IDEA of being "multiple" which Randy was not,but maybe coach D is overloading these guys mentally right now. Things need to be simplified imo.

The only NFL caliber talents on d right now are Perryman and Chick, and those are the only guys on d making plays on a consistent basis.

Shannon was ok as DC. He had a ton of talent and played a pretty simple defensive scheme.

He was no Bud Foster, who integrates complex zone blitz schemes and somehow manages to crank out top defenses with less talent annually than many teams. But then again, who is?

As far as Donofrio. I don't know. I don't know if he is trying to mask a huge dearth of talent, or if his defensive style is to sit back and allow an offense to own him between the 30's. As the year plays on I hope we will see. Frankly as long as we win I don't particularly care. But when we begin to lose games because of his defensive scheme and not necessarily talent...well I hope Golden has the nuts to be able to potentially let his friend go.
