Shannon >>>>>>>> Ohno'frio

I recommend 11 defenders. It always looks like 8. Even during the miserable seasons of the '70s I don't remember so many plays with wide open spaces.

How can D'onofrio think he can change four defenders late in the game when Boston College is trailing and running hurry up with the clock moving? Were they supposed to wait? Our guys weren't within 3 yards of the sideline when that ball was snapped. Handing them that first down was potentially critical. I was hoping Ron Cherry would announce, "15 men on the field," for shock and embarrassment purposes. D'onofrio always has that angry/baffled look on his face.

Regardless, a 4-3 is dependent on the caliber of the defensive tackles and we've been subpar for years. Defensive ends pick up the sacks and headlines but the defensive tackles disrupt the intention and shorten the play. I'll get excited again when we find a young monster for the middle. In the meantime, Curtis Porter might want to get healthy. I'm not exactly looking forward to Klein having all day to execute that stretch read option.

In terms of blame of this pathetic defense:

1) Coaches - enough of that we don't have the players. Every single time they did a misdirection, or some type of fake, their RB, TE or WR were virtually uncovered! That is coaching, not talent. A simple playaction bootleg, and the RB has no one on him! In addition, the first blitz we called was in the 2nd half. Why wait so long to get aggressive. We gave up so many 3rd and longs b/c he had all day to throw. Rushing 4 aint going to work with the horses we have unfortunately

2) Telamaque - single handedly probably cost us 150 yards. Guy has no ball skills. Never has. Its 5 years, and I am tired of it. I'd rather give Rayshawn or Kacy or AJ a shot to make plays there. The last play where he had the penalty was god awful. A fifth year senior loses the ball in that situation and runs into the receiver on a prayer ball?

3) Young team - there were clear growing pains when you saw outside LBs bite on fakes inside to leave guys open in the flat. I am sure coaches tell them but should have told them more!

i'm sure it'll get better but the defense was atrocious...mainly the pass rush, but they're were a couple of bright spots like creating turnovers, short yardage situations and in general our run defense was actually pretty good...the pass defense must improve however

agree. Turnovers were great and there were many times guys were looking to strip. Thought McGee and Finnie played well. But need some pressure on the QB... cmon Chick

Definitely concerned with the DC. I didn't see much in the way of adjustments, disguising blitzes or anything. They ran3 or 4 plays over and over, to the tune of 541 yards. We got the win, and I'm happy about it, but we need to make big, big strides going forward. We have no pass rushers, and that includes Chickillo. He was kind of non-existent today.

I gotta i say i was a bit dumbfounded as to how lost they were in coverage. Dudes gotta start implementing some different blitz schemes. ****'s getting ridiculous.

We need to bring more pressure with our LB's. BC has a solid OL but this was very alarming even for a first game.

We can't cover unless we drop 7 in coverage and can't rush the passer unless we bring 5 or more.

Coach d is doing miracle work out there.

With regards to zone vs man, you have to do what your personnel allows. When we had NFL caliber DBs it was really easy to just man up all over the field and have superior athletes at each db spot. Obviously we don't have the talent at db to man up and play press.

It works mostly. Through 13 games with d, we've been really good at defensive red zone td%. I don't know what else people would want him to do. This isn't NCAA 13.

Plus, I don't think the defense is designed to leave holes in the zone that leave a receiver with the closest defender being 10-15 yards away.

i think some are remembering Randy as a HC and not as a DC. bc he was an elite defensive coordinator.

as a head coach? not so much. but he was a top notch DC that got results!

He got results with 75% of the 2 deep being nfl caliber talent.

Do people not remember randy getting killed for only running man under and getting carved by running qbs all of the time?

Honestly, in hindsight randy was overrated while he was a DC here. Dude rode his talent.

and saban manages to have good defenses as a head coach, so what's the excuse for how ****** our D was when he was the HC? Randy is a known quantity, I can play man cover 2 all day and beat you when I have nfl pro bowlers 2 deep.... a real DC earns his stripes when he doesn't have an roster full of NFLers

SOrry price im not with you on this one...WE just let a RB with no talent have 8 catches for 163 yards..I guarantee you FCS defenses perform better against BC.. your not getting it mane.It has little to do with talent and more with scheme

So weak side defenders ignoring their responsibility is a schematic deficiency? Okay.

i feel like our LBs aren't sure of what their responsibilities are when they're in zone, which leads to guys being all alone.

it's also great to see guys wrap up when they're tackling.. i didn't see a lot of lowered shoulder "hope this works" tackles.

So Nick Saban wins because of coaching and not because he has talent? That is a silly excuse. No teams wins without talent. Their has never been an elite team without talent.

lol. You were a massive Shammin slurper on Grassy.

:ibisroflmao:

Donofrio is 1000000x the coach that Shammin was. Shammin would have given up 1000 yards and 50 points and NO TURNOVERS with the raw sewage he left Golden.

Wtf is this dude doing? It's like he's scheming for pop warner. Last year I refused to believe our DB's were as bad as they looked, and I again refuse to believe our DB's are as bad as they looked today. Seriously. Someone please defend Ohno'frio and tell me what he does so great?

Randy never had a defense this bad

Maybe Shammin should have stayed DC, and never been given the opportunity to humiliate himself as HC, and destroy our program?

Giving Shammin a HC job was like giving whisky and car keys to toddlers. Nothing good is going to happen, and the toddlers don't know enough to realize they should decline the offer.
