Shannon Dawson Q (play calls and game plan)

Good place to put this i guess

Florida interior dline won the run battle vs our interior oline. The correct gameplan was to let cam pick them apart with our skill guys

Arroyo changes this offense, him being a threat changes how teams will defend us

Florida’s interior DL is pretty talented, their edge guys are cheeks.

If Jacolby George doesn't cut inside on the end around and follows the blockers outside, that's a long gain and maybe a tuddy.

If Sam Brown and X connect on the trick play, that's a tuddy.

If RayRay Joseph catches the ball, that's a tuddy.

And we still scored 41 lol
I said that at my game watch. He would have easily outrun the gator----he was already 1/2 step ahead

Why do so many of our fans crave "creativity" and "the deep ball" over being effective and winning?
Our fans need to have SOMETHING to whine about. The O wasn’t the issue Saturday. Were they perfect? No, but no offense is and that’s discussed in film. That said, the gameplan was sound and efficient. People overrate creativity. If you are running a small number of plays consistently well, you can be just as explosive as a team running a ton of crap halfassed or at a decent level. It’s about execution, full stop.

I thought he showed alot of great things and variety. Not sure what you mean by Vanilla, I saw motion, shifts, exit/cheetah motions (which I been asking for since its literally run by pro team in same stadium), short game was cooking to wr and tes, even under center stuff which Im assuming was for Martinez and will open up play action down the line, Different tempo, more than just that dive into pile duo run game, counters and some stuff the 9ers/fins/rams do like the fletcher td when you have motion one way and have brown lead the other or the fake pitch to Martinez jet motion the other way with George (UF LB played it well but was a nice play and setup with lead blockers). We got 2 TE looks, 5 wide looks, guys running wide open, even went for jugular when they were already dead with reverse pass

Im not the guy to break it down but I saw more in this game than most others, even just the running game we were mostly duo last year and rarely varied from that. I could nitpick here and there but why we threw for 385 AND left meat on bone with drops and such even with execution being at high level with basically no penalties on hostile road environment. I wish I knew how to cut **** up lol..

Now the new test will be when the film comes out and defenses adjust and conference foes have film, will we have counters for the counters and continue to cook as season wears on.
This! 🔥🔥🔥

I saw it being discussed on another thread but I wanted your opinion. What do you make of the offensive line splits being so tight? I saw Chase Daniel mention it on a video and I wondered what the purpose for it was.
We run a lot of Pin & Pull. So it's probably just easier to have G's/T's a lot closer for when they pull & get to the 2nd level in order to down-Block at specific angles.

The whole crux of our run game is predicated on getting our big athletic OL's in one on one situations with LB's & DB's in the 2nd level of the Defense, allowing for more running lanes to be created to spring the RB's once they make their cut/shift outside.

For pass protection it's easier to combo-block & makes it more difficult for DE's/Edge rushers to loop & stunt the OL on extended outside press & dip moves.

Just my guess though, I don't really know anything about the OL. My department is CB's.

Dawson was fantastic.

You know what makes an OC look good, too?

Really good football players.
I shutter to think if we had pEnos or Gatass with this roster. We would still score points because Ward is that guy but we would've had a lot of people thinking they were decent to good OCs

What are the benefits to wider splits?

Didn’t see this post when I posted. Agree. Great call.
Later on with about 10 minutes to go in the 3rd we ran an arrow screen to arroyo out of bunch for a chunk play. Really good design and cheap install. Dawson has plenty of great ideas.

I’m not following lmao what more do you want? Dude is probably holding back plays from last year due to qb play

Put some thought into this and my theory is with how much duo/inside they run, they are betting on no run thrus. Also, we’re still a 6/7 man protection scheme so no need for the traditional air raid wide splits vertical sets.

The other thing that is basically a staple at this point is our pace. It’s methodical with all the calls up front. I’m sure they could go faster but to me, it’s like we solve the equation then go up front. A lot of times, tempo teams just lock rules up front and go fast.

How do you "adjust" to all of that?

All the film is going to show is Cam is unflappable and can make anything work; you need to pick your poison. The best defensive scheme for Cam is for the opposing team to play ball-control and run it all game.

Dawson called a great game. Cam had a few instances he extended a play and made some magic and had a few times he had a man and extended because he didn’t see it. Not like UF is devoid of talent either they played well in coverage for stretches
