I agree Norland is not elite this year and lost several players to transfer but that area producers great players. Specially good defenses! I expected a more competitive game vs. IMG

BTW was bad, then unbelievably good, now bad again. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to coach over there.

How good is MILTON..GEESH?. Gibbons aint really that sorry...so Milton must be good

Buford is big up front and can score some points. They are the second best team in 5A and top 10 regardless of class in GA.

I figured they would be big up front..they were when i lived up there in early 2000s so nothing changed. I figured Deerfield would hang with them though.

Their coaches in Ice Harris family are all coaching in college ball. Assistants off those teams are all head coaches at other schools...that one is on staff turnover. They have never really been BAD since the school re opened. The Overtown Rattler Optomist program just feeds the school with talent yearly...but they usually end up with some Liberty City kids as well (Chad Thomas)...But not with MNW, Central cooking..Luke at Edison, and Jackson being average the talent is getting broken up in that corridor.

S.Fla is crazy lol...Very hard to sustain teams over a 5 yr period.

Milton beat Archer during week 1 of the season. I am a bit surprised by their success, it isn't exactly a football producing hotbed.

@gogeta4
  • I wish somebody could draw up a map showing what neighborhoods/youth programs feed what schools in Dade and Broward.
  • And I'd love to see somebody do a ranking of Dade & Broward schools if schools could only get kids within their normal boundaries.
Would be an interesting experiment.

i'd love to see that too! some numbers guy wrote a couple interesting reports on recruiting..first about how far ahead the MNW/ Central/ Norland district is compared to any other district in the country..although in his reporting, he did mention how this year there weren't going o be as much top talent. Then he did another report on the HS's that produce the most top talent- and it was STA by far and away ahead of every other school..and in that report he mentioned how the trend was gaining steam. So, i started putting two and two together and think in part that increase is due to the decrease from the MNW/ Central district....kids from those neighborhoods going to STA? i know that there is more to it..kids from all over going there and to other private schools, but i would love to see an actual breakdown.

i think a few of us on the board can you do the neighborhood/youth program set up. i dont really know the south miami area down to homestead...But everything above that kind of know who feeds who
Would love to see that. I'm sure it would be visually striking.

Carol City is in that district in Mnw,Central, Norland...its likely the best in the nation overall.

STA is the team that recruits the best in s.fla. They own broward county so thats where they recruit. They should be far and away ahead of most schools. STA doesnt get much if ANY kids from that surrounding area. Maybe like 1-2 kids every 5 years. Last year they had a kid in Trenell Troutman. But it seldom happens as kids from those areas mostly pick the 3 schools listed..or head to BTW. Liberty City kids dont go to STA.

STA just mostly knock off the broward kids early on.

Its very difficult for Miami Dade kids to commute to STA, at rush hour (school time) you are looking at an hour each way if they have transportation. If not its almost impossible to connect via public transportation. In the old days some kids used to go from Miami High down to Southridge and viceversa, there are busses and the metro rail that feed that area. A kid could make the drive for their senior year otherwise its hard. Go by Columbus after school and you see some of the football players taking long drives or buses back to their homes it adds stress to their high school experience.
