Scholarship distribution

Even if we have a couple of other transfers leave, we should be starting the season with a roster in the 80s.
You may be right but I counted 77 scholarship players including Ahmmon and LS Jordan Butler. Also you didn’t deduct Milo who is not returning. If I’m correct that puts us at 9 more spots.

@Ofacekilla did a pretty thorough breakdown here where he landed on 75 a few days ago. Since then JT4 came back, Martell announced for us, and we seem to have confirmed Spicer was missing from his list as a scholarship athlete. That'd put us at 78.

Initial Counters are trickier. I have us at 27/28 available for this class (with 7/8 remaining = 27/28 - 15 commits - Kennedy - Martin - Bolden - Osborne - Martell). But, even that number could also depend on when Murphy/Few/James were put on scholarship for ic purposes. Either way, we don't have the initial counters for 9, but it looks likely we will be playing in the 80s this year... finally.

Honestly, I’m not well versed in how the initial counters work so I will defer to you on that. I was just counting the hard scholarship numbers we had last season without including JT4. Also did not include Spicer because I was pretty positive he was not on scholarship but again I defer.

There seems to be a lot of confusion on how much space we have left and many people for some reason think we have up to 10 spots left. I made a post explaining it on another thread but I’ll make a thread for it to stop the confusion a bit.
Okay I’ll break it down for you guys since I spent some time on this yesterday:
We had 79 scholarships coming in. Ahmon retires that’s 78. Jeff Thomas left that’s 77. Homer left as did feagles that put us at 75. 16 seniors left which put us at 59 but we gave the long snapper James a scholly which brought us back to 60. Cager left that’s 59. Jackson left that’s 58. Martin and Kennedy transferred in which put us back at 60 but then boulware declared bringing us back down to 59. Bolden and Osburn come in and now it’s 61. Jimmy Murphy and Marshall few are then put on schoolys and that puts us at 63. Mahoney transfers which brings us down to 62 again. Thomas returns and Martell comes in now that’s 64. To that 64 now you add the 14 true freshmen we signed and that puts us at 78. We also have a punter commit who has not signed yet which puts us at 79. 85 is the max allowed and 85-79 is 6 the number of scholarships we have left.
Now that's what I call attention to detail. Thanks Bro.

We are in the same boat, brother. The part that always trips me up is scholarship offers to walk ons; I have a hard time tracking that stuff. The only thing I am confident about is that our scholarship numbers will be somewhere in the 80s this year. That in and of itself is amazing considering how bleak things were looking 3 weeks ago.

No doubt. A few weeks look like it was going to be tough to just maintain the number of scholarship players as last year. Insane the sharp change in direction this program has done in that short time frame. Being in the 80’s is going to be important for the long term success of the program.

Charles Perry left that opens another spot

Perry is already off the numbers being quoted. However, there is still Robert Knowles, Bar Milo, Zach Dykstra and others, so I would not be too worried about how many we can sign. Also, isnt Wilder officially retired?

I haven't seen anywhere that wilder is retired but if so we should find out soon. Milo graduated.

When does Carlos Huerta lose eligibility? (sarcasm, he used to be cited on Grassy as someone who was here forever)

Pretty sure Ahmmon stays on scholarship...dont know if its still a football scholarship or something different but he might still count towards the 85

They are both on Scholarship. Signed before bowl game. Do grad scholarship count any differently? Spice, Kennedy, and KJ are grads, right?

where did you see that, regarding spicer and james?

spicer wouldnt count as an initial counter if he was just granted a scholarship, as he had been here a couple years already. kennedy and KJ would count.
