There seems to be a lot of confusion on how much space we have left and many people for some reason think we have up to 10 spots left. I made a post explaining it on another thread but I’ll make a thread for it to stop the confusion a bit.
Okay I’ll break it down for you guys since I spent some time on this yesterday:
We had 79 scholarships coming in. Ahmon retires that’s 78. Jeff Thomas left that’s 77. Homer left as did feagles that put us at 75. 16 seniors left which put us at 59 but we gave the long snapper James a scholly which brought us back to 60. Cager left that’s 59. Jackson left that’s 58. Martin and Kennedy transferred in which put us back at 60 but then boulware declared bringing us back down to 59. Bolden and Osburn come in and now it’s 61. Jimmy Murphy and Marshall few are then put on schoolys and that puts us at 63. Mahoney transfers which brings us down to 62 again. Thomas returns and Martell comes in now that’s 64. To that 64 now you add the 14 true freshmen we signed and that puts us at 78. We also have a punter commit who has not signed yet which puts us at 79. 85 is the max allowed and 85-79 is 6 the number of scholarships we have left.

Solid breakdown. Sounds like we have a much better chance at getting to 85 than most of us really thought.

The part that I'm really wondering about is the initial counter limit of 25 per class. Obviously, JT4 doesn't count against that, but I assume the transfers do? Just starting from the typical baseline of 25, 14 freshmen, plus transfers of Martell, Kennedy, Bubba, Aussie Punter (who I'm not sure is technically a transfer or a freshman), Asa Martin, that's 19, so the number is still 6, but the initial counter thing is far more technical and complicated than the 85 scholarship limit.

We will likely see a couple more transfers out at some point, I would think, as well. But if we do, our initial counter situation may or may not limit how many more guys we can really bring in.

You may be right but I counted 77 scholarship players including Ahmmon and LS Jordan Butler. Also you didn’t deduct Milo who is not returning. If I’m correct that puts us at 9 more spots.

Great post thank you I was trying to figure out numbers. It seems like we are still trying to sign much more than 6 guys and I think around 10.
1 QB LeGendre 1 DE bogle or Boykin 1 DT harrison hunte 1 CB Williams Jay or Elam 1 S prob Emerson 1 ATH MAR 1 WR Pickens or Jones 1LB Asante or Brothers 2 grad transfers DL DT nnoruka and DE from VT and grad transfer or recruit for OL bodies. I know we won't get all but 10 seems like a good number

Great work. The 85 is a hard number, but everything else is fluid. That's why can't say we only have 6 more spots.

I appreciate the attempt to educate our members, and thank you for your work, but the staff knows exactly what the number is and if any player can be pushed out/will transfer to create more room. It does serve to temper our expectations for how many kids we can expect to sign here.
Analyzing how there are still offers coming out and the staff pushing hard for more than 6 kids(Legendre, Bogle, Hunte, MAR, Elam, UCLA DT, Bama DB and maybe others OL/WR/LB/DE) I think they have a larger number in mind. Obviously, they are not operating with the certainty that all these guys are takes, we’ll see.
