Schiano to be new HC of Oregon Ducks?

Oregon might have realized that defenses have caught up with their fast paced no huddle offensive scheme. It's no longer a novelty that surprises defenses. That well is empty, so no point in trying to go back back to Chip Kelly or Scott Frost. Kelly kept getting beat by shutdown defenses, so the Ducks might have realized that building an elite defense is a better path to championships than gimmick offenses.

My friends in Oregon say he's the leading candidate. Ducks going all in on defense. Glad to see someone from the Hurricane family at U of O. Before Richt became available, Schiano was likely going to be our next HC (not butch davis lol).

I guess you were happy Golden got an NFL job and Donofrio was picked by the Pompano Beach Boys and Girls Club since they're both from the Hurricane family?

Can I add you to the CiS insiders list?

Oregon needs to come get Willie Taggert the **** out of Florida before the Gaturds wise up, ****can Horseface and hire him at UiF.

Horseteef has taken those cacklovers to SEC CG his first two years.

Gimmick offense? Dude went 33-3 in the PAC 12, went to 4 straight BCS bowls, and won 10+ games every year at Oregon.

That gimmick offense clearly sucked ***.

I've got no issue with Schiano. Did he somehow ***** over Miami? I also don't have beef with Dnofrio. He was an atrocious corch, but he ran Al Golden's defense, not the other way around. Golden could have fired him, but the next guy would have been running the same failing defensive scheme. And no, this wasn't an attempt to reveal "inside knowledge." My friends in Oregon are on fan boards same as us, so they hear (or start) the rumors (Gruden to Ducks!) before espn does.

That'd be an all-time bomb of a hire and it actually has nothing to do with the chimpface's coaching abilities. The pure geography of that school requires either an ace recruiter or someone that knows the West Coast. Monkeyboy is neither and the current ceiling for him in college was going to be a Penn State type job. If this happens it's a very old Phil Knight thinking that Nike U recruits on its own and he just needs a good coach- something he'll learn very quick isn't the case any longer.

Good post. The assumption is that Phil Knight is neck deep in the decision process, which is what I would assume, not being familiar with their situation.

0 rings, bro. Oregon fans don't care how many times he went to the playoffs, they just know the team has Never won a championship.

Yep. People don't realize that Knight is pushing 80 yrs of age and is kinda in a legacy mindset as he stepped down from essentially running Nike not too long ago. I really think he believes that the amount of time and money he's spent pumping up Oregon has positioned the school to recruit itself. He's entitled to think that as I'd kill for Miami to have a benefactor like that but putting a hard-nosed Jersey bred primate that probably couldn't name more than 3 California high schools in charge there would prove him wrong almost immediately. I'm absolutely not a guy that believes being a good recruiter solves everything (which is why I think Orgeron is gonna fail miserably) but Oregon is such a special case being in an area with almost zero local talent that the absolute least appealing type of hire would be a hardass defensive "guru" from the northeast with zero charisma.

And won as many titles as Vanderbilt.

He won as many titles as Butch Davis.

He also had 3 more double digit win seasons in his 4 years of coaching than Davis has had in 10 years of coaching. Although to be fair there are more games now then when Davis was at Miami. Teams today also pad their record more with OOC patsies like ECU. Wait a second, Butch says oops not once but twice about ECU.

I agree, it seems like a horrible fit.

The question is this: is he actually a serious candidate? And if he is, is PK actually pushing for him? I have no idea.

Scott Frost already said he's not taking the Oregon job.

A lot of Oregon fans don't like Frost anyway because of his awful recruiting that keeps leaving Oregon with FCS transfers for QB.

Oregon fans sound like a real smart bunch. Like Jaromir Jagr smart.

Oregon has had quite a few players from Texas on the rooster, so maybe not bad to get a HC with Texas ties and national recruiting chops to land Cali kids or maybe even Florida kids. Hmmm... Oregon wants a defensive minded experienced HC who can recruit nationally... could the answer be Charlie Strong?

Makes no sense. Schiano has always been an east coast guy. Who knows if he has any connections at all out west? I don't know, the Oregon job seems less and less desirable every year. Whooo! Phil Knight! Wooo! Nike! Who gives a fvck. Every school has an athletic apparel contract that gets kids free crap. With Washington getting things turned around in the north and USC making waves in the south, I feel Oregon will be relegated to what they've been for decades before Chip Kelly...a PAC12 also-ran who occasionally puts together a 9 or 10 win season.

Kiffen should be the hire
Why would Kiffen do better than he did at USC in the same conference with much weaker recruits?

I'm not saying that he would but he's talented enough to take a chance and bet that he's learned something for Saban and the overall program. Also, Oregon gets the majority of their recruits from Cali and he's recruited the area for a long time with success. His success with mediocre QBs has been unbelievable at Bama and the lack of development at that position is what made Oregon great and got Helfrich fired.

Actually the total plummet in talent level got Helfrich fired. Their talent, especially on defense, is deplorable.
