Schiano as Consultant?

I would love for this to happen. However, it does seem like the staff would be admitting that they can't fix the defense.........and if that's the case, they need to make changes to the defensive staff..

Uh, yes, I would also love it if a guy who has been a HC at the BCS and NFL level for the last 10 years decided to come in as the 11th most powerful coach in our college program. :p

If true then this would have to come down from key BOD members pushing Donna to do something to send a clear message to AG this defensive horror show he has put on the field the last 4 years and then paraded out a handle full of smoke n mirror Stats, is not acceptable. AG didn't want to fire anyone so Blake was probably told to find a defensive guru to hire as a consultant to evaluate the team and also help with game planning.

AG thinks he shovel can bullcrap into a bag and sell it to us fans as a gourmet express lunch. I would have preferred former NFL coach Wade Phillips, but Schiano has the UM ties. Also it could send the message that Schiano could be inline to replace AG if he doesn't win big this season.

But who knows what will happen, Schiano could just have been here for lunch.

Go Canes

Somebody is telling Al this crap has to stop and stop fast. If Schiano does come, it is more than just take a look a tell us what you think. I think we are looking a "HC in waiting" pending how play on the field looks this year. Al played his hand very hard ball at end of year -- chasing PSU, steadfast behind Mark, throwing out total BS about improved defense. He drew line in the sand. SOMEBODY might just be drawing a circle around that line, saying "we do have options!" Given how bad last year ended, this can't be bad news -- what could?

INDIANAPOLIS -- During the NFL Network broadcast of Saturday's on-field workouts at the NFL combine, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was shown communicating with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach and good friend Greg Schiano in the Patriots' designated box.

The snapshot has sparked some curiosity about Schiano and whether the Patriots may be adding him to the coaching staff.

Our understanding of the situation is this: Schiano, who will continue to be paid by the Buccaneers for three more seasons, has a son who will graduate high school in 2015.

Rather than uprooting his family entering his son's final year in high school, Schiano's current plan is to stay in Tampa Bay and not officially work in the NFL this season.

Now, does that mean Schiano won't be close to the game? Likely, no. He's a trusted voice for Belichick, as was evidenced by the appearance in Indianapolis.

Thanks to Dayton for finding these. He's not consulting, just bouncing around for a year

Former Rutgers' coach Greg Schiano helps with Ohio State's defense

Ash and the rest of the Ohio State staff welcomed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano to practice. And while Ash wasn’t quick to give up a lot of what Schiano taught the staff during his time in Columbus, Ash did say the staff found his input useful.

This cannot be taken well by Dorito, if true....not that I mind, just an observation.

/fantasizes that it would lead to taking Dorito's place

You never know, maybe Mark wants Greg to come in and help convince Al to give up on the stupid defense he is in love with. It is Al's defense; maybe we have the wrong villain.

Yes. This is good. Very good.

Assuming GS would come on as a "consultant," whatever that means in this context, it'd be a fairly odd pairing with what we've shown so far under Golden and what is generally the basis of Groh's concepts. Philosophically, I'm all for it, but would be really interested to see what, from GS, they'd weave in.

Hopefully it's the part about his unit being able to play defense.

It sure would be helpful.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano attended UM practice this week, leading some fans to wonder (on messages boards and elsewhere) whether he could re-surface at UM. But the Miami athletic department said on the record today that there are no discussions about Schiano taking a job with the Hurricanes.

Seriously... two ******* delusional pages about the possibility of Schiano coming on staff? What, did we turn down Bill Parcells or something?

Wow, this place sometimes.
