Sapp making news for being Sapp

This whole "don't tell me what I can be offended by" crowd is failing to realize one thing. When you're "offended" by something that isn't widely accepted as racist by anyone with any common sense then all you're doing is publicly labeling someone a racist that isn't. Why is this so freaking hard to understand and why do some of you keep changing what was said to Fat Warren? NOBODY referred to him as "boy" SINGULAR- something that clearly has a racial connotation and history and is indefensible in any setting. Show me ANY evidence of "boys" PLURAL having a similar connotation or history. Even on top of that, Fat Warren never even cited the racial connotation. He was just being his normal ***** self and would have found insult in any word that wasn't "sir".

White People Please listen.

If you don't know a black male personally or friends with him do not refer to him as a boy. That is a racial slur. With you being a stranger people have no way of knowing your intent. So this can be taking as a sign of disrespect.

It is that simple.

Again, call any man, black, white, latino, asian, etc a "Boy" in a certain context and tone and it can be taken as a sign of disrespect. Don't know why you want to make this something that only black men get offended by.

As for "boy" being racial, GTFOH unless it's preceded by n*gga boy or something like that.

i dont think he said only black men could be offended by the word, but if you dont know the historical context in which it was used against black men then i dont know what to tell you because asian white latino men were not subjected to the same treatment the way black men were this goes back to slavery days and jim crow laws afterwards, both of my grandfathers whom i have talked to lived through that in the deep south in Mississippi and they were called boy among other words as a term of disrespect. so dont tell me what i can and can not be offended by as a black man if you havent been in our shoes dont speak on it.

as far as sapp goes i wasnt there i dont know what was said or how it was said, and could really give a **** about his tipping habits or lack thereof, but this thread has transformed from arguing over tips in to white guys telling people what should and shouldnt offend black folks. yall can keep that **** to your self or the mods can lock this ****, straight up

Where did I say anything about what should or shouldn't offend you?
All I said that the word "boy" is not a racial term at face value like the "n" word is.. Like has been repeated ad nausem in this thread it's all in the context and tone.

as i said before i wasnt there and dont know what was said to warren or wasnt, its irrelevant to me, i was addressing people that say you cant be offended by someone calling you a boy, if you are not a black man or have had relatives that lived through the jim crow era then dont tell me what my perspective should be on the use of the term. and i dont care whats "widely accepted" either church bombings, lynchings and police dog attacks were widely accepted at one point. i didnt label anybody a racist i dont know a thing about the waitress or her interaction with sapp because i wasnt there and all we have to go on is a ******* bleacher report link, but i'm not ignorant enough to sit here and act like certain words were not used in this country to belittle black men, and many of those same people passed that mentality down to their children.

End this thread

like 9 pages ago.. Come on Mods..

Y'all busy lighting off fireworks still huh

I don't think anyone would disagree with what you're saying in the proper context. There's just no plausible account of Sapp's situation that'd put it in that context. I'm done with this though as it's way past the point of being a productive dialogue. It's just a god**** shame that someone as great on the field as Sapp was isn't universally beloved by this fanbase and it's his own fault.
