Roundup on Stephen Morris post-Senior Bowl - NOT PRETTY

Most coaches don't bench their Senior QB during their senior year... Especially one who started every game the previous year...he played bad at times but didn't play bad enough to warrant a benching..... it's only stupid fan talk.... Maybe a coach like SPurrier would..but most coaches wouldn't... Even if Williams was better then Morris in practice you just don't take out Morris

Don't disagree with this, it seems it's like the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know. There is an inherent risk and some coaches are more willing to gamble than others.

I agree with this. I was hoping for a Morris benching but knew it probably wasn't going to happen. Not sure what the dynamic of the team was from a distance. It could have had a negative impact on team chemistry....who knows. I would have loved to see Williams; however, I knew the possibility was remote and wishful.

SENIOR BOWL COMPETITION WAS APPARENTLY STIFF......

The ironic thing is that the commentators in the OP (Josh Norris and Bucky Brooks) were the main guys driving the Morris hype train after watching his junior year film.

Morris's trajectory isn't much different than Jacory's once Jacory started getting hype. It's extremely disappointing, because I thought both guys had more than enough talent to win with at the college level.

It's easy to say they never had it upstairs, but both guys seemed to get worse mentally as time went on. Morris protected the ball extremely well last year, and Jacory was a cool customer as a young player. As the hype got bigger, they got worse.

A quarterback is more than a guy with a good arm. He is a leader ,he understands the game and should deliver the ball in best place to advance his team down the field. We havent had anyone like that that for a long time.

That's precisely the point I tried to make in this and the other thread. Both of those analysts gave suspect opinions. Then and now.

Fisch and even whipple were better QB coaches than what we have.

Morris made some mythological throws this past season, but Stacey Coley sure helped his cause with those bubble screens.

so how is logan thomas and boyd still draftable? morris actually played better than both of them.

Ryan Williams just doesn't stand out at anything to me not a big arm not really athletic doesn't do anything great. With what we have for playmakers you have to have a big arm or scramble well. We don't throw to our tightends a lot. Nor do we have a big bodied possession wr all our wrs are small speed guys which means bad for a guy with a weak arm. just my opinion i don't see Ryan Williams starting the entire year if he does we're gonna lose more than half of our games and not make a bowl unless duke comes back in beast mode which he's not gonna do with a leg injury................ just an opinion i don't expect to win more than 4-5 games. This up coming year.

That's the way he played all year, hurt or not. I thought the light went on for him at the end of his junior season but it just didn't materialize for the kid.

Or maybe, you just overrated them.

I don't know if I'd characterize that as ironic, I see it moreso as a reflection of reality. Norris is a money scout who has a ton of knowledge and wisdom, and he rightfully saw Morris' monumental upside. A compilation of Morris' 20 best throws can trump any other QB, so the prospect of him developing was and still is enticing. Fast forward to now and it's evident that Morris has not progressed and maybe he even regressed. He has no consistent footwork and base so his throws launch all over the place. He's also limited at reading defenses and throwing against pressure, so the hill is steep. On that note, Norris admitted that scouts have to assume players are who they are, hence why he grades Morris as undraftable.

And lol at fans denying Morris' talent, like QBs with hoses for arms that hit guys in stride downfield are so easy to find.

Anyone who has watched football at the high school and college level for any length of time should know that ANY OTHER QB on our roster, including walk-on's could play the position better. There's more to the position than how you make some of the throws.

The notion that he played because "he gave us the best chance to win" is silly groupthink that denies reality. Many of us who have followed football for a time are aware of practice studs who are worthless on game day and we know of guys who rise to the occasion when it counts for real.

and it's hyperbole of this highest order to say that Gray Crow and the true freshman would have been better.

Okay, so I'm with hyperbole and you are with presumptive and we're talking over a cold drink. Tell me how you KNOW the others could not have played "better?" Is Morris any kind of a special standard for QB play?

Other than the big arm and the occasional long ball what is it that you saw in Morris' QB play that was so superior to anyone else on our roster? With our receivers would the long ball have been out of the question for the other roster QB's? Have the other QB's never been competent prior to attending the U?

Is it impossible our next true freshman be better than Morris was?

Not trying to be contentious here, just curious as to your reasoning. It's worth discussing, I think. Anyone else want to jump in on this?

i'm not saying that Morris is definitely better than the other QBs. But I can't conceive that any coach - Golden or otherwise - would risk his career and consciously decide to play a less-talented player simply out of loyalty to the senior. that would be ludicrous. and if you still believe that, how do you explain Flowers starting over Bunche, or Deon Bush over Rodgers, etc...

I was just responding to your definitive statement that the others were better. there is not enough information to say that RW (much less Crow and Olsen) would have been better than Morris. Again, I sure as **** hope RW is better next yera. But he did not play enough in game situations for us to conclude he definitely was better than Morris.

Ask Vern what he thinks of Ryan Williams.

during the year? Taj Boyd made a ton of plays for Clemson throughout the year. He was a playmaker. But I don't think his skill set translates to the NFL.
