Sad day.

I enjoyed his commentary immensely and his video games (early on, not lately).
He was silly and a acted goofy but was entertaining, & obviously knew his stuff.
I miss the days of the six legged turducken, the way he mentioned sweat on the posteriors of linemen (no homo), being thankful that heads were not decapitated on the ground when helmets flew off unto the field, and emphasizing how 2 minute timeouts and change of possession timeouts were very important.

He and Pat Summerall were a major part of my childhood and now they are both gone. Those days will never come back but will also never be forgotten.

RIP.

RIP Coach Madden. I was born during the season after the Dolphin perfect season. The Raiders had the Dolphins' number in that era. I can remember my Dad calling him "Fat A$$" Madden as a young kid. My Dad always said his worst football memory was the "Sea of Hands" catch in Oakland to end the Dolphins' 1974 season. Madden had my Dad's respect, but he didn't like him.

However, when Madden started calling games, his personality endeared him to the whole country. This included my Dad and me. The guy was a class act and great guy. He will be sorely missed.

Vince would have had a nearly identical winning percentage to John if he hadn't taken that crappy job with Washington for his final year.
For sure. Madden would probably have at least one more Super Bowl ring if the 70's Steelers didn't exist too.

Haven’t seen the doc yet.

Why did he quit coaching so early when he was killing it with that win percentage?

Family, predominantly. Plus, while it was not 100% clear from the doc (as to the timeline), he had struggles with the travel (airplanes) even while he was coaching.

Also, the doc does not delve super-deep into the stress factor. John was ultra-competitive and ANY losing of games took a heavy toll on him. Plus, Al Davis was hard to work for, that was when Al was in his prime and full of **** and vinegar.

Those were the best days/nights ever. Man I loved playing those early 90s Madden games. Somewhere at my mom's house is the 1992 Championship version that had the 72 Dolphins. Man, that game was incredible. I recently picked up a Sega for the kids, so maybe I'll have to her find it.

He is right up there with Keith Jackson. Completely different, but a complete legend. RIP, coach.
In my early 20's back in the mid 90's we would roll up a few, get a case of Michelob light, and play Madden till our ladies started beeping us lol!
