Rhett Lashlee named ACC coach of the Year

I believe that we had to do the complete purge to give any hope for this program. Even if Rad had replaced James, would the dollars have flowed as heavily for Lashlee? Or would he have been seen as a relic of another failed coach?
I don't recall the situation around Lashlee leaving, was he fired or did he just leave on his own? And did any one even think to interview him for HC? Or was everyone completely focused on getting rid of Diaz?

If memory serves, he got the SMU offer before Manny was fired.

Imagine going to a new conference and winning coach of the year and being in the ACC championship in the first year with a bunch of locker room cancers who didn’t do **** at Miami. Where Miami has made the ACC championship game only once in 20 years.

And, of course, **** the bed once they got there.

Ignore if already posted, but an interesting read.
But none might have been a bigger find than Brashard Smith. The Mustangs' only preseason all-conference pick (as a kick returner), Lashlee almost discouraged him from coming to Dallas from Miami, where he had mostly played receiver, a position the Mustangs felt good about.

"We didn't want to bring him here to not play," Lashlee said. "We also don't want to bring him in here and do wrong by the guys that are returning. So we kind of told him no, honestly. We just said we really don't have a spot."

But Kyle Cooper, SMU's running backs coach who had been with Lashlee at Miami, kept hearing from Smith. He wanted to come, and other coaches, like QBs coach D'Eriq King, who had played quarterback at Miami when Smith was a receiver, kept reminding Lashlee how good he was. He didn't disagree, but wasn't sure what to do with him.

"It just so happened we're watching the [Kansas City] Chiefs play and Isaiah Pacheco was playing great. I remember texting Coop during the game and being like, 'Hey, how much does Brashard weigh?' He hit me back and it was like 10 pounds less than Pacheco."

He might just be a player at running back, Lashlee thought, and Cooper agreed.
They called Smith and said if you want to come play play a new position and be a kick returner, they were in. Smith was too.

"After spring, our defense was like, 'Hey, that guy's different,' Lashlee said.

Even bigger question, how did Lash slip away from us? We were sitting right on top of him.

smith and Elijah Roberts are the only ones eating.

If you watch smu games the others are the same players as they were in Miami. Harvey, hunte, Brinson, Clark, smith and rooster (injured).

People are going to look at the graphic and run with it.

Lashlee is a great coach but it goes to show you what a great cfb qb can do. What was their season outlook with Preston stone at the helm? Or even us prior to ward?
Bump. This looks like the lashlee I remember.

Trenches matter. Looks on par with our lord and savior manny Diaz’s oline.
