I'm just loling at "money used to hire a competent DC." Yes, I'm sure the reason we didn't fire D'onofrio and hire a great new DC was because of fan donations.

What people do with their money is a personal decision. Forcing change (if you deem in necessary) by withholding money is the only recourse the common fan has in voicing displeasure.

Our fan turnout is embarrassing, however, administrators will take notice if we're playing in front of 10,000 fans. I'm not promoting that, but it's undeniable.

Golden is at a turning point @ UM. I believe he as TWO years minimum. If he wins, the donations and crowd support will return. The ball is in his court now. Honeymoon over.

AMericans vote with their dollars. That's the beauty of it.

A while back Dapper posted the annual football revenue numbers for the past decade. The decline in revenue after coker's debacle against LSU in the bowl game was notable. Seeing 55,000 people in the pouring rain against Va Tech then seeing only 25,000 a week later for senior day against UVa was a very telling sign for me. If UM management doesnt step in soon, my fear is that we are one bad performance next year away from a total fan meltdown. And Im not talking a message board meltdown, Im talking about the type of meltdown that affects the AD's coffers.

we are already there IMO. the attendance will be like the UVA game every week

This what I don't get from the folks that want to stop donating.
Shalala and the Athletic department have shown with the past 2 firings that they will pull the trigger when it needs to be pulled.
They did it with Coker after his 7 wins season and a clear downward trend and they did it with Shannon.
And the Shannon firing proves Shalala removes the personal from the business since she was the one that hired Shannon.
We should not expect any different regarding Golden if performance declines, which BTW hasn't, donations or not.

I see I'm not alone-- my reply to the Hurricane Club's solicitation:
To whom it may concern:

We do not want, nor do we need “pep talks” from “Ray Ray” about what it takes to be a champion. You see, we lived it at the University of Miami. (note that’s in the past tense.) We understand what it takes, because we were a part of it, well before we became the “U”—which is now an embarrassing symbol of mediocrity. There is a serious undercurrent of discontent amongst alumni, and fans at present; this will turn into apathy in short order. It’s already in motion.

When the administration and athletic department pull their collective heads out of the sand, by confronting coach Golden, and forcing him to fire his hand-picked Defensive Coordinator (who also allegedly is his best pal, and Godfather to one of his children) then I, and many like myself, may reconsider donating once again.

It is apparent our Head Coach is in complete denial regarding the performance of his Defense scheme, and the abilities of Mark D’Onofrio, the man charged with teaching, and executing it. Our Defense has ranked at the bottom of the ACC in almost every category, and among the worst in all of Division I football teams nationally—two years running.

Rather than confront this issue with forthrightly, Al Golden assumed the persona of “Baghdad Bob” while cherry-picking statistics to support his case when appearing on the Joe Rose Show, and later, during the press conference at the Hecht. In doing so, he insulted the fans and alumni by positing that the Defense was “trending” up. You may recall this canard? It didn’t take but a few hours of research and simple analysis to debunk “rah-rah Al’s” claims that “ALL IS WELL.” Mind you, this occurred in the midst of his flirtation with his alma mater, Penn State, and following three days of radio silence, which also featured the “de-commitment” of our #1 defensive recruit.

Did you see our Bowl Game versus Louisville? We were ill-prepared, played with little emotion, or intensity— and after nearly six weeks of so-called practice and preparation. Al Golden and staff were completely outcoached in every phase of the game—as they were in several other contests, some we won despite their incompetence.

So please, rather than appeal to a restive and disgruntled alumni base, who’s withstood more than a decade of mediocrity, and an embarrassingly poor product on the field-- Ask Ray Lewis if he’ll cover my dues for the coming year. Granted he’s retired, and now living on a “fixed income,” but I trust you’ll have better luck appealing to him than a large portion of current/former Hurricane Club members—who have seen more than enough, and who’ve had enough.

By refusing to replace our Defensive Coordinator, among other coaches, Al Golden, the administration, and the powers that be are guilty of dereliction. Al Golden is suffering from a crisis of confidence amongst a large portion of the fan base. Our once proud football program is at a precipice; teetering dangerously close to irrelevance.

In all fairness, our program as been demised for about 8-9 years now. If AG gets schitcanned it's not a big deal at this point.

I am dumbfounded that the Athletic Department has not stepped up and forced Golden to make changes with his staff. What more proof do you need to see that Mark D'Onoforio is not cutting it? A good coordinator does not fall last in most of Defensive categories two years in a row.

You really think this Admin would have kept Shannon if attendance was 65K vs USF in the 2010?
Don't think so.
Golden will be judged by wins and losses more so then attendance.
And Wins and losses don't necessarily correlate with increased attendance with this fan base. In 2005 a mist a 8 game winning streak and top 5 ranking the crowd at the OB vs GT was a pathetic 55k considering the MNC implications that game had.
So no, the attendance argument holds no water.
