Cool storyRemember the time on this board when we clowned Kirby Smart and called him a corch, a bad game day coach. Remember the time. All that time Kirby said nothing, but quietly recruited his butt off. He dedicated himself to stacking ship while we mocked. Today he is a winner with the most elite players. Today he is gawd in our eyes. That’s how life can be. Never give up on any one as long as they work hard.
Agree however Miami is not recruiting to the same level Georgia was when everyone was saying that. They were stringing together multiple top 3 classes with multiple 5-stars every class.... we're recruiting well but not to that level. Hopefully that changes with a winning season, Mario is a beast on the trail
they were all bama fans prior
I admit, I have rooted for UGA in hopes they would take down Alabama so that they could shut up that "Roll Tide!" thing you get from "hurr-durr Bammer is bestest"
Yes, but remember the starting point.Uh Kirby Smart went 8-5 year 1 and then proceeded to go…

lol at this attempt at a comparison simply because of recruiting. If anything, it highlights how imperative it is for Mario to win double digit games in Year 3, when most other coaches have been able to do it within 2 years. Kirby went 7-1 in the SEC year two, Mario won 7 games overall year 2.
The time is now. Not next year, not two years. Now.
So nobody is gonna comment that Miami ran 93 friggin plays in a game in 1987?I mean...

We ran nearly 50% of the time (43 runs to 50 passes, and yes I realize that a couple of those "runs" might have been scrambles or sacks). But we ran for less than 4 yards per rushing attempt. It's not some kind of wild disparity in the success rate. Even factoring in the passing ATTEMPTS, we were getting nearly 6 yards per pass attempt, compared to less than 4 yards per rush.
The INTs killed us. Plus Alfredo's fumble (of a completed pass) on the second-to-last drive.
I'd also point out that we were never behind in the game until the 8:13 mark of the 4th quarter.
Next time someone from Pedo State asks you why we didn't run the ball more, ask them why they didn't stop Sandusky from raping young boys.
This is true too. UGA was already a 10 win program when Kirby took over.Yes, but remember the starting point.
UGA won 10 games when Kirby took over.
Kirby took over in 2016, when in 2012 UGA may have had the best team, remember they lost SEC title game vs. Alabama on a deflected pass near goaline then Alabama blows out ND in title game.
UGA fans were tired of winning 10 or 11 games but playing 2nd fiddle to Alabama. Richt didnt actively encourage the bag game, boosters were tired of it. They hadnt had a title in nesrly 40 years.
Its the same thing for Lanning. He inherited a 10 win football team, and one of best OL groups in Amerca.
Kirby walked into Sony Michel and Nick Chubb at RB. Mecole Hardman at athlete, Wynn at T, Roland Smith who won Butkus award.
Also the infrastructure had been in place. These schools were already up to modern college football with the money spent for coaches and support staff, facilities, nutrition, and S&C.
Miami just got on board with this when Mario got here. He is starting way down the pole from where Smart and Lanning did.
Kudos for Smart and Lanning though building on top of what they inherited, and taking it to another level at least Smart has done that. Lanning is close.
Yup. They were also NE Patriot fans as long as Brady was there.they were all bama fans prior
3:07 left in the game, 2 timeouts left
1st and 10 - UM 23 yard line - drop back to pass, Testaverde run for 4 yards
1nd and 6 - UM 27 yard line - incomplete pass (almost intercepted)
3rd and 6 - UM 27 yard line - incomplete pass
4th and 6 - UM 27 yard line - 31 yard pass to Blades
1st and 10 - PSU 42 yard line - 7 yard pass to Blades
2nd and 3 - PSU 35 yard line - 9 yard pass to Perriman
1st and 10 - PSU 26 yard line - 4 yard pass to Irvin (slips and falls)
2nd and 6 - PSU 22 yard line - 13 yard pass to Irvin
1st and goal - PSU 9 yard line - 3 yard pass to Irvin
2nd and goal - PSU 6 yard line - Testaverde sacked at the 13 - 25 seconds left - 1 TO left
3rd and goal - PSU 13 yard line - incomplete pass - 18 seconds left
4th and goal - PSU 13 yard line - interception
Twelve plays. Four full clock stoppages (three incompletions, one timeout). Three temporary clock stoppages (three first downs).
So, again, I ask people...
1. WHEN were we supposed to run the ball? When we were 77 yards away? Or when we were 13 yards away with 25 seconds and one timeout?
2. What is the issue with Testaverde throwing at that point? He only had one negative-yardage play on the final drive, a sack. He moved us 71 yards down the field in 2.5 minutes before the sack.
3. Even if Testaverde urged JJ to pass instead of run during the timeout, I'm not sure what a run would have done. We were at the 13 with 25 seconds left and on 3rd down. We were down by 4 points, we couldn't kick a FG. So if we run and don't make it 13 yards, we go to 4th and goal. Not sure why anyone thinks we should have run on that down.
At the beginning of the final drive, Testaverde's stats were:
20-40 for 218 yards with 0 TDs and 4 INTs
Just before the final INT, the stats were:
26-49 for 285 yards with 0 TDs and 4 INTs
It was the 1986 season, outside of the 4 INTs, that was NOT a horrible stat line. If Testaverde throws a TD on that final pass, he goes 27-50 for 298 yards and wins the National Championship.
I am still unclear as to when and how we should have been running the ball on the final drive. We never had time AND yardage on our side to be able to run.
Regardless of "who" was calling the plays, JJ still had a questionable coaching/big-game rep until he was carrried off the field in 1988.

Yep. Mario could only dream to inherit the talent foundation Kirby did. They had a better roster 10000%
This one is too easy, anyone with a brain knows this. We were **** and our roster building was **** for years in comparison to what he inherited at UgA
So nobody is gonna comment that Miami ran 93 friggin plays in a game in 1987?
No matter what anyone says UGA and UM were on different planets during that time. UGA wanted to win at all costs and made a boss move and UM was TNM (no spending, The No Money)Yep. Mario could only dream to inherit the talent foundation Kirby did.
Definitely. Still a couple more classes away from beating the top teams consistently but we now have the real foundation to do it. Manny could never land Francis, Bain, Damari, Jojo types. No matter what anyone says UGA and UM were on different planets during that time. We got MR and people thought he would do the same but it doesn't work like that. U need the whole program committing to football. Now u have someone who knows the Saban and Butch way and is implementing that strategy that has worked for ages and that blueprint never breaks. Thats how the national champion each year has built it....through recruiting the best. We still dont have enough to beat a OSU or UGA imo but I'll take what we are building over the circus **** we have seen for 20 years.
