Recruiting Perception

Beat LSU and the floodgates will open. That sends a message not only locally but nationally as well that we one of the top programs in the nation.

for the first time in a long time this is true .... win and they will come ... our staff has credibility now, we'll develop players if we can get them on campus and our brand is so strong the league will always be close

Needed to win the Wisconsin game? We have the dumbest fan base. That game has no bearing on one recruit at the moment or goin forward. When I hear a recruit say “yeah if they would have won that Wisconsin game I’d be committed” or “I didn’t sign there b/c they lost the Wisconsin game” you might be on to something.

And the op, yep, it’s just you. Post less.

Patience young Jedi’s. The staff has done a phenomenal job turning around the **** show that they inherited. They are radically improving everything. From the facilities and S&C, to the staffs involvement with the local HS and even the cancerous entitlement mentality within the roster.

All this takes time but the staff has a system and process in place in identifying and developing talent that is going to pay big long term dividends within the next 2-3 years. Big time college coaches and boosters know this and they are shook. This type of change takes time and it can be frustrating at times, but we are way ahead of schedule. In a few years, we will be turning away top flight prospect because they don’t fit in our environment. You already saw it this year with Hunter. We are in the calm before the #Storm!
Number one attraction to the U now is the home attendance is way up.

Dumbest fan base really, having been to many a Wisconsin game,90% of the Badger fans were DRUNK AND WIPED OUT.
The other 10%were so old some of them finally got out of Camp Randall Sunday PM.

needed to win that wisconsin game ...

nah...

Our mere presence in that bowl game and potential playoff birth is proof positive we're headed in the right direction, and nothing about our performance that night can refute our trajectory. I'm not sure how any recruit's decision can hinge on that game but, if it does, they probably weren't coming here anyway... Our legacy, program trajectory, and the education we offer far outweighs our Orange Bowl play in year 2 under Richt.

not referring to literally winning that one game, referring more to momentum, smh

We are still trying to reestablish our brand. In was tarnished for years with bad coaching and recruiting. The top challenge now that we are on our way to establishing the U is getting recruits to buy in to “blaze a trail”. Many of the top recruits want to play for established programs with increased chances of making the playoffs. Secondly, they want to go to pipeline schools they have a good shot of getting drafted early. There was a time we offered both. As we continue to move closer that level, we will not need to play games with these elite kids.

The reason Miami is having problems with the hometown local studs, IS BECAUSE these schools now days are offering packages some of these kid's can't refuse, BELIEVE IT OR NOT but this **** is happening!! SO we can cry about horrible recruiting, losing 3 straight games, attendance, facilities WHATEVER, the bottom line is Miami recruits are getting these packages that they refuse..

MIAMI will still get studs here, BUT UNFORTUNATELY Miami will never get them all..

Some of it is just staff evaluations.

We could easily have a higher ranked class right now (or at least by August) had the staff pushed for and prioritized guys like Dunmore, Sanguinetti, Davis, etc. But either those guys aren't high on the board, or they think other guys are intercangeable (Brownlee with Davis i.e.).

Last year, our top guys mostly aligned with the recruiting rankings, this year it isn't quite the same. I'm not sure there's much of a cause for concern though unless we start missing on our true can't miss guys: Neal, Richards, McIntosh, Bogle, etc

Prime example, and I can not stand FSU, they finished 6-6 and still ended up with a top 10 class. Why? $$$$$. Let Miami finish 6-6.....

To be fair, Randy landed the #1 class in the country after going 5-7.

Win/loss record doesn't matter as much as people think. Sure its a factor, but its just one of many, and you can sell a losing program or fail to sell a winning program

Nah I'm actually going to post more. If you are not concerned with the cream of the crop leaving South Florida every year because of bags or whatever other reason then you are that dude that will be happy to win 9/10 games to get curb stomped by Clemson or Bama. I want to win and what I see is that whenever the big boys come down here they take the cream of the crop.

Take a guy like Stevenson from Southridge... guy is a dade kid and should be a lock. Instead he has not committed and has no plans to in the summer at all. We don't have any blue chip ambassadors in this class like we had last class and our on the field product was a marked improvement over years past. Look a the best players in South Florida last 2 years:

Tyson Campbell
Patrick Surtain
Josh Jobe
Gurvan Hall
Gilbert Frierson

of those we only got two and our top target at CB and safety was cherry picked from us.

This year :

Ladson - top option at WR heading to Clemson
TS- Reportedly a Georgia lean and according to Stefan making a "business decision"
Battle- Heavy OSU favorite might make a commitment video soon
MAR- Has brother on team and will wait until December to possibly commit ( Auburn a serious dark horse)
Bogle- UT/Bama and $EC money written all over it.. will probably wait it out till NSD and to the highest bidder
Neal- Miami lean but heavily recruited by everyone ( and rightly so) but no idea when he will commit..

So we have a class full of B and B+ players but to win you need to keep at least 80 % of those Blue chippers in your backyard every year. You think Mama, Georgia and OSU are CONSISTENTLY losing their top players? Not only do they lock them up but then they go national and get top dudes in other areas like South Florida. Freaking Saban locked down Alabama and then came here and got the most highly regarded corner in Surtain and Georgia did the same thing by bringing in TC.

Meanwhile Richt is out here donating $1 million to IPF, taking payout to pay assistant coaches, building ties with the community and hosting all these camps, creating unique events like Miami Nights and the best camp in town in Paradise , winning games and all we have to show for it is mostly B players WITHOUT A SINGLE OF OUR TOP TARGETS in the class?

it's depressing to say the least... a this point I'm just hoping for MAR and Neal because it looks like we will miss out on everyone else.

So, to be clear: 5 out of the 6 players you're crying about are uncommitted, and we're the CB favorite for 4 of them.

If you're depressed about the elite players in S FL being recruited by other schools, perhaps stop following recruiting.

Again IDC that they get recruited... Of course they will be recruited by everyone. My issue is that our top guys do not share the same loyalty to the program like other big time programs have with their top dudes. I hope we get 4/6 but in reality it looks like we will get only 2 of 6 if we are lucky.

What are the solutions? Winning? Yeah but you sort of need top players to win... Georgia /Bama/OSU are winning with top 7 classes.

If you think Surge18 was a bunch of B players then do yourself a favor and become a Bama fan already....

Storm18 is the exception not the rule. We had an ambassador from Central Florida and later on we also got studs in Hall and Pope from South Florida. In reality we hit 50/50 with the cream of the crop last cycle. Yet after

-IPF
-10 win season
-community connections
-coaching continuity

I mean this coaching staff is doing EVERYTHING right. These diva players/ coaches can't point to the program as a liability anymore. Yes it is still June, but did you remember last year? We do not see the same early success. By December we had our class locked up and after that? We fizzled with our major targets. When TS, Bogle are probably making signing day decisions, when you lose Ladson, you might end up with just Neal and Richards.

I so hope I'm wrong but it is tiring to see the powerhouses cherry pick our best AND keep their best.

Maybe continued winning is the answer but in the bag era...

Miami finished 6-6 under Folden in the 2011 season, sat out our bowl game while facing the NCAA investigation, had a pretty below-average recruiting staff, and finished with the #10 class in the nation. I agree that the bagman is real, and that we're probably outgunned in the good-ole-boy department by most of the competition, but that doesn't tell the whole story.
