Recruiting gurus, is this the most excited you've been..

Remember the speedster from Texas who lasted about a week on campus, probably 99 or 2000. Never ended up anywhere, can't recall his name. Also, Willie Dixon was a huge recruit who didn't last long.

Mitchell - before his freshman year even started, was the only CB on that team that could hang step for step with Santana (and tana was an upperclassmen then). Mitchell had some elite speed.

Tory Mitchell.
Dixon was a top wr recruit in the country. Stockton, ca?

I never in my life saw someone so fast on the track so slow on the football field. dude had no hands and no significant football speed.

Yep. His competition made him look much better than he really was:

since the commitment of DJ Williams?( where he seemed to chose UM outta nowhere)

I still remember on Grassy that even guys like me( who don't really follow recruiting all that much) feeling a certain buzz and you had the feeling that something special was brewing

Regardless, this coverage on this site is light years from when I had to read Gary Ferman state every year that ERRickson had recruited the best class in UM history for 4 straight years( I still have those issues)

I'm excited, but it's not that AQM is the best kid we've signed in ages -- that was Duke Johnson, btw. It's that I'm starting to see real evidence that AG really gets recruiting, and has a plan and process that he sticks with, and can persuade. And I think -- think -- he can evaluate, too. If all this is true, we should be in for a good run (if he sticks around and the NCAA doesn't ***** us).

But a big part of my view is on what he does locally. I'm happy with the OOS recruiting in part because it's evidence he's not wasting his time or running around clueless. But he's stuck with and on Coley, Collins, Bryant, Thomas, Robinson, Thomas, Grace, Kirkland. In years past under the past two staffs, several of these kids would have been dropped (or maybe not recruited) and we'd have heard whispers of 'issues' -- character, grades, 'just wanted to leave so fla', money from other schools, 'not a UM kid', etc. etc. etc. AG has basically stuck on all the top kids this year.

He may not get them. I realize that. But what matters to me is he's trying for them, and isn't tossing out excuses or cutting and running. That's what suggests to me we're on the right track, with the right guy at the helm. He he wins his share, and evaluates well, look out.

I agree, this isn't just about one guy, it really is about the overall direction and movement that Golden and staff have carved out. The staff is winning recruiting battles where UM isn't necessarily a sure thing. To me, that's the sign of program that knows what it's doing. ****, even Shannon and Coker got certain guys who would've been Canes, under any circumstance

And all this with NCAA sanctions and uncertainty hanging over their heads like a dark cloud

But todays commitment is very symbolic and significant....

If anyone recalls my antics on the grassy premium forums...I was completely enamored with Arthur Brown and marked out like a bum when he committed. I didn't like Randy, but dammit mane, that commit got me excited simply because I thought he was a next level stud.

When Thomas signs here...I'll be equally as excited.

I was equally as excited for Duke Johnson, but he committed so early in the process, its tough to get that hype when you know he's a shoe in.

Larry, ABrown shows that even at mediocre ebbs, UM can nab blue-chippers. I think if he's on this past squad in Coral Gables, there is a difference in the D( although I think he would've been hampered by the DT play upfront)

But to me, Shannon was really no different that ERRickson in a sense that he could get good looking, highly rated classes on paper, that had national names and flash, but there was no overall plan or hindsight in terms of really building a roster and setting a consistent foundation for the program. Both ERRickson and Shannon left gaping holes in the UM roster by the time they left

Jeff Taylor was like the number 1 rated lb in the country.
Antonio coley was the number 1 rated safety.

Coley went from that elite status as a recruit to having his claim to fame while at UM being that he found a mistake in a textbook. How many times did we hear that tidbit during Canes broadcasts?

Coley was the classic tweener, not fast enough to be a safety, didn't really have the size to be a full-time backer

Danyell, freakin stud. Number one rb in the country. The , he had the dads rushing record w like 1600 yards.
K9, what were your thoughts on the Bryce erickson recruitment?
Brian hochman? Carlos callejas?

Didnt ERRickson make some crack about Bryce being the only time he could buy the recruits mother dinner and sleep with her.

Ive heard some funny stories about Bryce, this kid was a train wreck waiting to happen

Bryce is now on the staff at Idaho I think. He was a disaster while he was at UM.

Anyone else get excited seeing clips of Chris Walsh on Scholastic Sports America( which was hosted by Chris Fowler) and seeing the arm and the fact he was Steve's brother?

Also, he was listed on all the magazine lists of All-Americans. Then ERRickson put a hitch in his delivery

Oh, and I can forget about getting the USA Today the day after LOI were signed and thinking how great the coverage and graphic sere. BAck when guys like Dexter Daniels( of UF from Valdosta) was their player of the yeaer

Alan Hall, mother****ers!

Didn't Hall wind up at Portland State under Mouse Davis after he left here and put up some big numbers? Or am I having a seizure?

Bomb, I don't remember that. He was committed to fsu and didn't qualify and sat out a semester and came to UM. Don't remember him at all on defense or mentioned as a db.

Me either. He might be thinking of Jammi German, who was a dynamite CB in HS.
