We should make a play for him. I doubt NFL teams care that Martinez ran for so many fewer yards here than at OSU. Probably happy he put out great film with minimal wear on his treads.

Hughes has 500+ carries in two years at Tulane. Come here, split time with Lyle & Fletcher (100+ carries a piece) average ~6ypc, without hurting your draft stock gotta be an attractive offer.

He's RB1 the day he comes on campus, if we got him.

He's 1,000x better than any RB we have on the roster, Martinez included.

We'd be absolutely INSANE to not throw our hat in the ring.

Especially considering we're probably going to have significantly worse QB play next season.

The draft is deeeep this year tho at RB. He isnt high on many boards lately either. Seems his value took a hit coming here.

Didnt know that, am not much of a draftnik.

I guess my broader point is that with NIL now there's less of a need for RBs with NFL ability to run themselves into the ground in college. It's okay to share time like at OSU and like we did here. It won't change how NFL teams value RBs in the draft, but could give those guys a better to chance to play longer in the NFL getting that second/third contract, because they don't have 1000+ carries of wear and tear at the college level.
 
don't think we need to take a look at anyone - if so it should be a true freshman who's transferring and willing to sit and develop - spend that money on a center, another WR, and a QB - the RB room is set. don't bring anyone in and risk messing up one of the best RB rooms in the ACC

I tend to agree with this. As of right now we have a depth chart of.....
1) Jordan Lyle
2) Mark Fletcher
3) Gerard Pringle
4) Chris Wheatley Humphrey

We also have good insurance in the form of TE/H-Back/ATH Elijah Lofton who can easily transition to RB if one of the top 2 get hurt. If the staff thought that 4 true RBs including the true freshman Pringle would be a touch thin then they should have pushed for a 2nd RB in the class and there were some very good options. And miss me with this the line about the staff couldn't have known that Chris Johnson jr and Ajay Allen would jump in the portal because a blind man could have seen it with a cane(pardon the pun)! Anyone could see those 2 kids were as good as gone as early as the last 4 games of the season.

So you're saying you wouldn't take Hughes?

Some of you people have short memories. It was just 2 seasons ago when all 5 of our scholarship RBs got injured and missed time at one point or another.

4 scholarship RBs is not enough RBs, especially when 2 of them have done nothing in college. And even moreso considering the sort of offense we will likely need to revert to with our current QB options.
 
As of right now, having three of your four RB’s sub 190lbs is a risk, and the same three have little college experience. A proven bigger back should be brought in to compete and complete the RB room. Let’s see with the HC does here..
