RB targets

Some of you people have short memories. It was just 2 seasons ago when all 5 of our scholarship RBs got injured and missed time at one point or another.

4 scholarship RBs is not enough RBs, especially when 2 of them have done nothing in college. And even moreso considering the sort of offense we will likely need to revert to with our current QB options.
Then the ideal thing is to bring in a first or second year running back. I wish we had signed two this year. We should do that every year due to NIL attrition.

Who do you suggest we even get? You’re realistically not going to convince a kid to transfer here to be at best the 3rd string RB

I think we grab someone in spring window. Staff might wanna see exactly what CWH + Pringle can do and reassess from there.

No clue. But I'm not so convinced a solid RB would be scared off by what we have in our RB room. And if you are correct, it's further evidence only taking 1 HS RB was a dumb idea to begin with. You need 5 minimum. Basic roster management.

That may be our best option at this point. Maybe grab a young kid who feels homesick or isn’t happy with how things ended post-spring. All I know is 4 RBs on scholarship isn’t enough.

It's about money. Is a frontline RB high on our list of needs? Lyle is the guy and Fletcher already played the same role in a great running game.

I think we need another back but more of a depth guy who can play multiple roles.

If Cam Ward was coming back then sure.

With what will undoubtedly be a drastic drop off in QB play, having an actual ELITE RB should be paramount.

Betting on the run game, with a worse QB & seemingly losing Martinez, with only 2 backs currently on the roster with any productivity is a gamble in odds that doesn't favor the unlucky.

Oh ST already had a 1200yd back in Treveyon Henderson, but they still brought in Quinshon Judkins when he became available. Why? Because adding great players to your team makes winning easier.

Hughes is better than every RB on the team, that's not debatable.

I don't know if Hughes is better than Lyle. We haven't seen enough. I know Lyle probably transfers if we bring in Hughes. Lyle costs less and has two more years before he's draft eligibile (Hughes is already draft-eligible but did not go pro). If Hughes is better, I don't know if the difference will be dramatic.

It's about allocation of resources. The money is not unlimited. We've signed Top 10 backs in the nation three straight years. Two of those guys were part of an excellent running game last year. The third guy gets here now.

We need a top WR, a TE, 2-3 more DBs and (in my opinion) an impact LB. I'd rather go expensive at those spots.

Hughes is 25 lbs bigger than Lyle and with lots of experience. Get your point though as Lyle has upside and cheaper. We do need anothet RB as four is not enough. Plus three of them are not big and you have Fletcher missing games his Frosh and Soph years.

In addition, we also need a QB, C, DE and perhaps DT all with starting experience at the P4 level.

I ain't no snitch, but whoever yall dealer is needs to be put in PRISON.
Lyle hasn’t been the lead back yet. He was a top-rated HS signee that averaged 8.1 YPC as a freshman. Hughes is a three-year player who chose not to go pro (I don’t know what his draft grade was).

I agree that Hughes is a very good runner. That will get him paid a lot in the Portal. But would you rather have him than a great WR or a talent overhaul at DB?

I have much more confidence in our running game staying strong than those other positions right now.

All that said, I’m glad people believe in investing in the running game. We’ve come a long way from the tuff and fyzical meme.

You guys...

Makhi Hughes wouldn't be a 3rd RB.

HE'S LITERALLY THE BEST RB RETURNING IN CFB FOR NEXT SEASON.

Are yall on drugs???
Reminds me of 22 when this place convinced itself we had a top 5 RB room. It also reminds me of all the years they convinced themselves Chaney was some next level talent.

We would have been just fine without Martinez this year, even though I loved watching him run. If budget is constrained, you spend it on QB/DB
