RB depth is unacceptable

Need to take the kid gloves off Edwards, and start getting him real touches.

I think the dude should help supplement the loss of Duke, running behind the #1 on the OL.

Morris is going to get sacked regardless of what RB is back there.

He is going to get them regardless. We run the ball almost 40 times per game. Edwards is going to get 10 carries at least.

He is the question mark going forward, he is pretty fast and big. Can he provide a spark?

We lose Clements and are bringing in Yearby, Powell, and maybe 1 more back.

Soon.

I'm more concerned about safety.

Why you think we don't have enough with Rayshawn, Deon, and Jamal. I am sure we bring in at least 1 or maybe 2. But its funny how before we had a million safeties and no corners, now its the other way around.

Jenkins has developed nicely, a 100% Bush is a beast but he isn't 100% yet, and Carter is still a young pup.

I don't see any safety commits at this point so correct me if I'm wrong.

and notwithstanding his health-related poor performance this year, it's conceivable that Bush could leave after next year, if he returns to his All-American freshman play. We need safeties desperately.

he HAS to lower his pad level to have the success we need him to have - short yardage tough yards.

What coach Coley did to Duke Johnson this year was criminal and was being called out by folks like me here while it was happening. The kid was too small and too young to be getting 30 carries a game.

Duke has gotten 30 carries in a game once. ONCE. 145 carries in 8 games. That's not even top 30 in the entire country for carries. I guess the BC coach should be jailed for running Andre Williams 216 times. And Bielema should be jailed for running a true freshman lacrosse playing cheerleader 159 times.

He needs to get carries when it is not obvious that we are going to run. Like i said, Morris will take a sack, no matter who is back there in pass protection. So if Edwards gets doses on all downs. I think the guy can make plays running behind the #1's on the OL.

We know what we have in the other 2 backs, Edwards is that wildcard imo.

I'm a little more concerned with how our RB's are used than our depth at RB. I don't understand why Duke is/was being ran into the ground. He's not capable of running between the tackles consistently. I would have liked to see him get his 22-25 touches in the passing game, screens, some outside runs, a few times between the tackles and in the return game. I don't understand how we were so concerned with getting him hurt on returns and we continued to run him between the tackles and keep him in on pass protection where he had gotten hurt multiple times earlier in the season. We have our between the tackles RB in Crawford yet he only had 2 carries but had 3 catches. Coley is a great recruiter but so far his play calling has been questionable.

We ran Duke because he's our best player. You can't predict a broken ankle. Gurley's a big dude, and he gets hurt too. RB is a nasty position by nature, which is why you need to stockpile talent there.

You and I had this exchange a couple weeks ago. I said we would eventually lose Duke Johnson because of injury due to being over-worked. What coach Coley did to Duke Johnson this year was criminal and was being called out by folks like me here while it was happening. The kid was too small and too young to be getting 30 carries a game. Moreover, we put him in one back sets and ran him between the tackles on 4th and short. Coach Coley needs to learn the difference between using your best player and the best player for a given situation. 4th and short should be for Mo Hagens, Walter Tucker, etc.

At the end of the day, plenty of us here predicted that Duke Johnson would not last the season and we've been proven correct. We've got a redshirt sophomore offensive coordinator who is learning on the job. He needs to do a better job of roster management. Way better job IMO.

You're certainly prescient, and I'm not. Glad you were able to accurately predict Duke getting his ankle grotesquely pinned him under him and that it was Coley's fault. You do realize that that sort of freak injury could have occurred on the first play of the game right?

Some of you guys crack me up with how idiotic you can be. LULZ at you "predicting" he wouldn't make it through the season as if that's something all that rare for a starting RB. Did you predict that big hoss Gurley at UGA would hurt his ankle too? How about the biggest baddest RB in football Adrian Peterson tearing his knees up? Did you predict those?

This.

Freak injuries happen. Duke wasn't over worked. He is perfectly fine being able to handle 30+ touches if we need him too. Ideally he doesn't get that many every game but he is our best player, one of the best backs in the nation. You bet your *** I want the ball in his hands a lot in a tough game.

And LOL at over worked. He has had 25+ offensive touches once this year, FSU would have been his 2nd.

I don't understand the sack comment. Miami has been sacked 8 times in 8 games, that's hardly anything.

17 carries in the first half is quite a bit against FSU, imo. Especially for Duke.

I agree sir. Edwards is the unknown variable. I would like to see Edwards given the ball early.

Perhaps then don't put him in the short yard plays. Go with Hagens. I like Hagens.

Edwards is just not that good right now but he will probably have to take on a bigger role

I would say it is unknown how good/bad he truly is...

Here are his stat lines from the only 4 games he has a carry.

FAU: 6 for 19
Savannah State: 12 for 113 3 TDs
USF: 10 for 53
UNC: 1 for 0

I believe the only carry he has with the first team offense is against UNC. IMO, how could anyone know how good this guys is based solely on the opportunities he had above.
