Rank the new corners

The insights and disagreements over the quality of our corners makes my willy tingle - unlike in years past.

Man, this is the kind of problems I absolutely LOVE!

I think Howard is #1 and is an immediate contributor.

I think then, Bush has the most upside, but I think Crawford is more ready to play now on that second tier...I kind of like Vernon Davis as a low end Tier 2 type, high end Tier 3...I think he can return some kicks and I think he'd be a heckuva nickel guy by the time he's done at Miami.

Then you have the "projects" like Dortch (natural at the position, but needs to work on the physical things) and Hope (physically there, worked for his scholarship, but needs a little work)...I honestly think Hope is a bit of a sleeper and he'll push a lot of guys to be better or go home...maybe not in this class, but the Keion Payne's of the world...when those boys start to see themselves getting passed on a depth chart by the Nate Dortchs, the Larry Hopes, the Vernon Davis' they might re-evaluate their life.

Gunter is a guy that will give us a guy that can come in right away and play. I don't know how good he'll be, but he'll contribute right away at the S/CB spot in some way. He at least brings some + athleticism to the table and some seasoning against higher than HS level competition.

I hate to rank per se...but whatever...

1. Howard
2. Bush

3 and 4 get a little murky for me...I like Crawford on the outside, and I like Davis on the inside and on specials.

I like Hope over Dortch because I think his ceiling is a bit higher.

I won't rate Gunter.

U popped my cherrry Larry..!!
although i am more impressed with Bush's upside than howard by a longshot.!

So how does Howard go from the best corner in the nation to be being compared to Brandon Harris? Am I missing something? If he turns out like Harris, I think that is a disappointment.

Harris was a 5* kid and was an All-American type player at Miami.

Why would that be a disappointment?

i feel like most canes fans think if a highly touted guy isn't a super stud then he's a disappointment... Harris was a solid corner for us.. not much of playmaker but who was during the shannon era? Same thing with DVD, DVD was not a playmaker, but he was solid in coverage all the time, so he too was a "disappointment".. i feel like our staff now will develop these guys correctly and we won't have as many "why did this stud recruit not become a baller" situations.

Crawford being this super fast player is based on what? Was he an exceptional track athlete? just tryng to see where this is coming from

This is what is wrong with these recruiting services. Howard is a over rated 5* corner. Would you compare Howard to Patrick Peterson?

From the little I saw of Howard he looked like an aggressive confident kid. Very good traits for a corner.

I only saw Howard and Crawford once, in the state championship game. Both looked pretty darned good. And it was big school football.

So I'll rate them 1 - 2.

I haven't seen the others other than short highlight films, so I'll not rate them.

Of those 7 new incoming frosh Corners, all are not likely to see the field as CB's. It wouldn't surprise me if one or two moved to safety and perhaps one to Offense.

Too many Corners is a good problem to have tho.

According to playing time/performance its been:

1. Bush
2. Gunter
3. Howard
4. Crawford
5-6. Dortch/Hope
7. Davis

Crawford is still a corner

What the **** happened to Vernon Davis? I don't even recall seeing him on the roster last time I checked

I'll say this about Bush, he was playing out of position at CCHS. He's not a safety.....he lacks instincts and is often times slow to react when facing the play.

Now...Bush in a pure man to man chase role is a different story. He has the speed and athletic ability to be a good corner IMO. Doesn't have great hands (notice he didn't play much offense at CCHS) so don't expect alot of big plays but he's definitely a kid that can stick his assignment and will allow little separation. Think Kelly Jennings but more athletic.

Boom...nailed it.

Always interesting to read people's thoughts on players and to see what actually happens on the field.

This is a great thread
