Well said brother. This is a HUGE dealof how this role is being reinvented and should not be overlooked because of WHO we hired. I expect other universities to follow suit. Athletics is not some sort of side hustle anymore where you can just put in an AD to manage that "subsidiary" of the business as its own entity. Athletics is completely woven into the fabric and identity of a school. Everything from what the brand identity, public perception, applications/admissions, brand deals, international exposure/opportunities, academic implications, etc.
It makes a lot of sense to elevate this position on the org chart to a higher level with key stakeholders and make sure their is constant communication and alignment of vision, goals and execution.
It's incredible seeing those names listed, and seeing the steady decline in quality as the years went on. I remember when you put up a lengthy post about Gino, and one of his immediate benefits being his knowledge/ability to move the levers of power not just in the AD, but throughout the entire university because of his experience. I think this restructure helps in that regard as well and, like you said, creates space for Rad to make additional hires in the AD to supplement the time spent in meetings as the VP, and additionally, groom his successor without feeling threatened at all (which was brought up as a concern by many in regards to Zo and his status as a staffer). No problem. The ONLY time we have had an AD this "powerful" (so to speak) was Paul Dee, because he came over to the AD position after being UM General Counsel. Tad Foote absolutely loved and utilized Dee.
MAYBE...Doc Mallios? He had some bona fides too, but only served for a couple of years as full AD. Jankovich clashed with Foote. Maggot Maggard was a disaster. Hocutt never warmed to UM, and Eichorst and Beta Blake were two unqualified rubes.
But we have never given THIS TITLE to an AD, not even Paul A. Dee. Now we need for Rad to groom an (eventual) successor, so that we can keep the streak going!
This is fair. I’m very happy with step 1 being a come to Jesus moment for athletics though. To your point, academics need addressed as well.
Tropical Park? Now a stadium at tropical park, men's soccer team, fire Gino DiMare, work on succession plan for coach L, to offset the addition of a men's soccer team (title IX) add women's gymnastics or softball, and modernize the football locker room and player's lounge. Get to work, Rad.
The guy had a heart issue a few years ago, might not be himself since.BS... he got lazy and old.
Underfilled roster for the last 3 years, then blames injuries. Plays the most unispiring hero ball BBall.
He is not the same dude from his early years.
Now he barely makes any in game adjustments.. just stands there watching.
Time to move on..
Don't let the last couple of game scores fool you.
Winnie Cooper could absolutely get it. Still can.Grew up watching the Wonder Years. Would smash Winnie Cooper

This goes back to the 1990s, and the cuts made by AD Dave Maggard. He ****-canned Men's Golf and Men's Swimming, due to budgetary and Title IX concerns. The "budgetary" made a weird amount of sense, because we had been an Independent for a long-time and were just about to join the Big East. We did NOT have much revenue back in those days.
The Title IX argument always angered me. Title IX should be about giving MORE opportunities to women, not reducing opportunities for men. Maggot Maggard should have focused on doing a lot more fund-raising for the Living Scholars program, which funded sports scholarships.
Down the road, I would love to see Men's Soccer, and a comeback for Men's Golf and Swimming. We also need to ADD women's sports, and I think Lacrosse and Softball would be two fantastic additions.
Post of the day!!MotherFrenker?
He got out of the same car as her when he arrived at the press conference.
I'll need some evidence before I'm ready to admit we can do that. It's been so long since we last walked, let's just focus on that for a bit, ok?We can walk and chew gum at the same time...poster is correct....get on basketball and baseball as well!!
Not having swimming/diving and men's golf in Coral Gables is crazy. Miami has won National Championships in those sports.
The Mas Bros might have interest in funding some men's soccer scholarships as a marketing ploy for their MLS team. Maybe even share a stadium one day
Sure, sure, we'll do all that. I'm just saying focus 97.3% of his effort on football until we win #7, then we can think about discussing putting some effort into thinking about other sports. Maybe. It is being addressed currently (and certainly is my priority too). The others need attention as well though. And it is a bit of a tongue in cheek comment. Just tired of seeing ALL programs suffer from years of mistreatment at the hands of Blake. I would gather that you’re in agreement too in the big picture.

Tf is wrong with you, that's terrifying.
