QBS in the Portal as of 11/28

Mateer
Mendoza
Beck
Robertson
Hoover
Ewers
Milroe
FCS dude
WSU back up

Drones

LOL

Like others said, if it were Drones why wouldn’t he have already entered portal if he is not playing in bowl game? And I would have been fine with Drones personally if his price tag was on the ‘lower’ end.
Not sure I would have Beck crossed off. He is probably a day 3 pick right now with no ability to meaningfully participate in pre-draft workouts. He could benefit quite a bit from coming back to college and taking a huge paycheck while improving his draft stock under a different system.

Unless we get one of Ewers, Milroe, or Beck to not declare - I am fully on the give nickel the reins train

if we're going down next year, might as well be with the future qb - not emory or a 1 year rental that wasn't good enough to win those types of games anyways.

Nickel has all spring and summer and ND is playing a new qb as well who has some experience, but still limited

Go back 1 month ago when portal opened…

Knowing what we know now, instead of waiting on Mateer, Miami should have pivoted the moment we weren’t getting a firm answer from Mateer on just visiting and moved on to someone like Jackson Arnold and then got Singleton to go with Daniels (because lets face it, Daniels was always coming this time around).

Of course the fans would have been upset for not seeing the whole Mateer situation out, but this is what happens when you go all in and you are not holding the nuts.

I mean, do we know for sure they weren't doing a version of that? I know the current CIS narrative with the QB search is that Mario had no plan past Mateer and has just been sitting in the shower with his head in his knees like a domestic violence victim, but I doubt that's the case.

Now, it's entirely possible they had a few targets and whiffed on all of them, and that's a different problem if true.

honest question not being a ****, why does it matter what the price tag is to us fans? if the team can pay it, they should - we don't *seem* to be pinching pennies

on a separate note - I try not to discount any qb's with absolute certainty, but I'll come out and say drones is bad, really bad - and getting him would be concerning that the coaches feel he's better than anything we have and/or even worth going after
More so worrying about a salary cap when you need to get defensive back starters in the portal

well there is no salary cap and we chased blay / silver, the UTSA LB, several top CB's and Safeties (got a few of them in Brantley / poyser /who are both big names), seemingly will get Lucas eventually, hosting branch brothers right now (that would take money), we offered Mateer, hosted like 3 other Top WR's, chasing a big name now in Thomas - what makes anyone think going after one player means we won't have money for others?

There would be a lot more “trust the process” posts by the mods if we had other pots on the fire.
Beyond that, historically speaking, this is what Mario has done. He goes all in on the guys he picks out. In recruiting that works great, spend months/years on building that relationship. But in portal, you need to have options at all times.

I'm on board with this, just don't think Mario has the balls to let a true freshman start week 1. We'd probably have to suffer through Emory fumbling around for a few games.

Issue is Nickel going against elite defensive players and coaches at all levels while the Notre Dame QB will not be lol

Right. Watson, lawrence, fields , cam Newton just in the last what 15 or so. So I'm going NO
Will say this - saw the semi's and finals of Nickel's team's state championship, and it was as close to a professional operation as I've ever seen at the HS level. Dissected a defense filled with future D-1 defenders in the semi's, and was nearly perfect at 27-28 (or something like that) for over 400 yards in the state final. Impossible to not be thoroughly impressed with those performances against the highest level of competition in GA.

to be fair, you don't know that

we have one of the most talented DL in the nation - did that show up this year? no - but doesn't mean the talent isn't there

also wouldn't be shocked if golden got a HC gig for this playoff run

Yeah but Notre dame has great players at all three levels Miami doesn’t and they’ve proved it in the field.

He should get consideration but I don’t see anything opening right now that would be worthwhile for him and also Marcus Freeman is still an outstanding coach.

Clemson made a similar choice with Klubnick when DJU started to brainfart, it wasn’t good from the beginning but now he is a player.

well our DL is better than their DL and every starting LB or DB on our team is gone outside of Bissainthe

so can you confidently say they are better in all three phases talent wise than we are?

I mean it's fair to assume that - but Brantley was a top CB in the big 10 and whole portal, he's now our starting CB. Poyser is considered a top safety, we got him. We still have OJ who was a freshman all American, Kamari brown will be back, Patterson, Karnley, probably lucas

there were some duds (Harris, Kiko(doing anything other than blitzing), Richard, hill), but I think you guys are giving Guidry too much credit here - his scheme was 80% the problem

if we get some of the rumored names available - we will see a massive flip in year 1 on D (Tim banks, muschamp, etc)

if we're as talented & in a new scheme, why are we fearing a team that leans on AL GOLDEN'S defense lmao - ND hasn't played a team that can score outside of USC and USC did just fine against that defense

I’m quoting you, but this question is for everyone that’s followed Nickel…

I keep hearing how good the kid is. If he’s lighting up the highest level of competition in GA, why do recruiting sites have him as a 3 star?

I’m curious also. Did he not do enough camos? Or is it purely measurables? Because Bryce Young was ranked highly they didn’t care about his measureables

Considering his sub par season and now injury would make sense to return, rehab, and upgrade his depleted stock. He would be better than Mendoza, a seasoned vet with SEC experience, and the 1 year bridge to Nickle.

Mario and company really ****ed up the QB portal situation this year. Put all their eggs in the Mateer basket. Probably thought they had the inside track because of Ward’s friendship.

Plan A we should have went hard after Jackson Arnold first. Plan B should have been Mendoza.
