QBS in the Portal as of 11/28

Emory having to beat out Judd and a true freshman to win the starting job after not proving a **** thing is a recipe for disaster. Whoever the insiders here are saying UM is working on behind the scenes better be someone who can take this job because our ceiling is 8 wins with Emory.

He beat out Poff and Jacurri. Dude is ready!

No, I’m not being serious.

Here’s what you’re not considering. For every guy like Mateer and Leavitt who turned out to be really good, there’s 10 other busts you’ve never heard of.

The odds of hitting on a QB simply aren’t good. Miami and Cristobal don’t have the luxury of rolling the dice in year 4.

Cristobal will bring in a QB with experience. He has to.
This is where I'm at too. We have to be targeting someone with starting experience. Either that guy is on a playoff team and isn't in the portal yet, or he's on a non-playoff team and for reasons unknown isn't already in the portal. I don't think it's going to be Mendoza, we'd have stitched it up after Mateer decided on Oklahoma.

All the faith I have in Coach's competence will be shattered if we actually roll with our room as is, or supplement it with one of the young unproven (but highly rated guys) from one of the playoff teams who are or will be in the portal.

I'm in favor of getting a QB with starting experience now, and get one of the young pups from Oregon/OSU/UGA/etc who are going to be in the portal either after the playoff or in the spring. If that causes Emory to transfer, thems the breaks. We need to get a proven guy for next year and we need to upgrade the talent in our QB room after 3 years of recruiting failures until this year.

I wouldn’t be mad if we got Mendoza but wouldn’t be thrilled either

Idk if either will be available but in my opinion, the only two I would pursue at this point that would be clear upgrades over Emory would be Carson beck or Quinn Ewers

Don’t think beck entering the portal is likely but crazier things have happened.

Beck is hurt - out for playoffs and had a down year. Was originally slated to be a top pick, maybe he comes back now after the injury? Maybe not idk. His GF is a Cavinder twin supposedly? I’m not a huge Beck fan, but he’s 24-3 as a starter and we open with ND. Even the biggest of Emory fans I would hope see the benefit of opening next year with that kind of championship level experience

Quinn Ewers. I think still likely goes NFL - maybe due to pride? I don’t see a situation where Texas tells him he is the starter next year as they have Arch waiting. Does Ewers go to the nfl despite Mel Kiper and others saying he needs another year or does he hit the portal? If he hits the portal I think we go after him.

Mario said that he needed a QB to beat Florida week 1 and that’s why they got Cam. No offense to Emory but we open with a much better team week 1 next season and Ewers despite up and downs, has the playoff experience to win that game

Again, Mendoza is there and “safer” than what we currently have because he’s proven it vs ACC play but we shall see
