He’s surrounded by more talent than any qb in the country and he struggled against the only defense he played this year ……twice. That UGA defense is very meh by their standard.

He’s very inconsistent and needs that huge talent advantage around him to be somewhat effective. He’s also a bad fit for Dawsons offense. I think he’s a pretty good qb and would be ok if he’s the guy . I just prefer somebody like Mendoza more who’s never been surrounded by anything yet plays well.

Ewers like Beck is just a big name. Both overrated as ****. Cam was a great college qb talent that has very few weaknesses , to put them in the same conversation or act like it’s a tough decision is insanity to me. Ewers is limited and has been pretty much a game manager. Jmo.

See I think the fact that Ewers has a big name and is connected to places like Texas and Ohio State causes people to pick out his flaws and overlook his actual talent. He quarterbacked an 11-2 SEC team which IMO easily could translate here, but doesn't get any credit for it. You're grading him and Mendoza on a curve.

I think there's times that grading on a curve makes sense. Last year, I was all in on Cam Ward extremely early, when a lot of people were pushing for Howard. Becasue you could see his skills on tape. But then, there's also times when the boring and obvious answer is actually just the best answer. That's my take on it this year. Ewers is the biggest name because he's the best option among the names being tossed out there.

Also keep in mind that in those games, Ewers was running for his life against Georgia. His offensive line struggled as badly in those games as Cal's did in any of their games. And it's not like Arch Manning came in and did any better. Yes he had a lot of talent at Texas, but I don't think Texas has more offensive talent relative to the SEC than Miami has relative to the teams we play.

And that big game experience is also a positive. We're focused on how he played against Georgia, but what about his game against Michigan? Oklahoma? Didn't he beat Nick Saban's Alabama last year?

Agree on Beck though, I don't think he's the answer either.
