QB Decision Update (NEW YEARS DAY ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE LEAGUE)

I’ll play devils advocate here…

If he is serious about the nfl he is either going this year or going to a school he feels the most confident in helping his position in next year’s draft. He will avoid risks. TVD did nothing to help his position in the last 2 years.

Cribby already confirmed they have a plan, but there’s no way I’d believe that the coaches have all their eggs in the Ward basket. Say what you want about Mario’s coaching ability but the guy is one of the best recruiters out there.
One of the best recruiters and one of the worst and slowest decision makers of all time.

I think he killed it recruiting Ward but now it’s in the decision making stage.

Agree. People keep saying recruiting is Mario's specialty, but this is mega different than HS recruiting in So Fla. We don't have 2-3 years of relationship building with Ward and his family. We don't have inroads in his community network (coaches, teachers, trainers, relatives, handlers, 7 on 7 folks, etc.). He didn't grow up a fan of Miami to my knowledge, nor is there local pull working in our favor. The hashtag campaign (people claim it was fan-inspired though struggle to think staff didn't nudge it) was what really concerned me. Not that I thought it was overly corny (as that's the nature of CFB these days on social media), but how misguided an approach it felt. Hope I'm totally wrong
Except we do have inroads to his coaches, mostly via Dawson, but also Mario. It was a significant factor in him having interest in us in the first place.

everyone fails to account for the player side who is intentionally playing it close to the vest but leading the suitor into believe they have a great chance. otherwise they would lose all their options. so they tell miami how much they like it and that they want to just take a look at the NFL but what they really don't tell you is how seriously they are considering the other options.
We get it man some chick ****ed you over

You don’t have to keep saying the same **** over and over again like it’s groundbreaking

I assume that this is Ward we are talking about and not Mario making a decision on whether to wait on him or not? I only ask b/c from previous Mario history he seems to be a pretty slow decision maker.

I’m not worried for one reason:

This upcoming season could be make or break for Mario. He knows he HAS to have a good year, period. The current roster situation for the most important position on the field is obviously bleak for 2024. If he has to, he’ll ’overpay’ for a guy that’ll at least be a good option for a year even if it’s not the home run in Ward. We’re not going into next season with Brown or Emory.
Laugh out loud at thinking the guy with top 10 recruiting classes in a 10 year contract with seven to go is in a make or break situation

Getting drafted that late he’ll be depending a lot of wild stuff happening for him to play or even making a roster. It’s a crazy gamble.

Exactly.

And those hands ain't getting any bigger.

I truly believe he only lasts 4 years in the league and doesn't get a second contract. Come to Miami, get drafted as high as possible, and hope he can get a second contract.

Think he meant Mario deciding to wait on Ward, and/ or possibly negotiate re: NIL allotment if that’s involved in Ward’s delay.

It is Ward but Mario also has to make a decision to move on, bring other guys in on visits, etc.

Never should have let it go this long with that kind of money on the table.

Yeah... that is why I asked as I originally took it as waiting on Ward to make a decision, then thought the same way as you are saying, then went back to Ward, but wasn't sure.

Am I the only one who thinks Miami isn't the only school Ward is talking to/considering? There's gotta be other teams in play for Ward. I just find it hard to believe it takes three weeks to decide whether you want to go the NFL route or commit to Miami. These guys declaring have had the NFL in the back of their minds for months

this ^^^ Shodell spoke about his contact with the father. He said he was very cooperative and a good interview up to the end of last week. He's gone dark now and they are not returning phone calls, etc. Shodell said he has heard that agents are pushing to enter the NFL- the sooner he's in, the sooner he will be up for the 2nd contract. The belief is he would stay in the NFL long enough to get to that point. The trade off would be getting the bigger payment via NIL for one more year of college vs. playing for the long term and many more millions in a couple of years. If he waits it out, the other possibility is there will be more teams looking for a high caliber QB after the bowl games are over. January 15th is the deadline to register for early entrance into the draft process.

Both Shodell and Ferman said it is their impression that Miami was not expecting it to go this long.

They also tossed around the idea that the Wards were waiting to see what the offense looked like with JB - they already know how it went for TVD and perhaps are waiting to see what it looks like with a QB who is more mobile. They don't think that's a serious factor but it could be another of many reasons for the delay.

Pete Nakos, ON3 national transfer portal guy, was on the Andy Staples show recently. This is what he said about WArd's situation:

“I have not been very public about what a timetable could be for Cam Ward because I’ve heard everything from; he was gonna announce last Wednesday to this past Friday to Christmas Day. And now it’s Tuesday the 26th, and people are saying midweek this week, which could be tomorrow. I have no idea about the timetable. I’m not going to set one just because I don’t think there is one.”

In a previous appearance, Nakos revealed that the NFL was very much in play for Ward. There has been a limited amount of discussion surrounding his draft stock, unlike the likes of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jaylen Daniels. But the inconsistent play at quarterback this year in the NFL could make a jump to the next level more lucrative for Ward should he choose to declare for the 2024 Draft.

Any other position in the NFL you could possibly say “bet on yourself” and be right, but we’ve seen even GOOD NFL QBs be hampered by organizational dysfunction or poor OC/HC alignment.

That decision making would be just short sighted imo

You can't copy and paste stuff here. You should know better.
