its always the same ****....a new variable nobody expected. our coaches always think they have it locked up and feel good about it only for some unexpected thing to happen. they need to stop putting all their eggs in one basket. move on from this guy. get another QB..
@Warrior808 this is the type of dumb **** that @OrangeBowlMagic was talking about

Other than Dillon Gabriel what QB that was available is anyone even losing sleep over that we "missed".

Riley Leonard and Aiden Chiles already had a predetermined destination so much so that Riley Leonard stuck with ND than a chance to go play for OSU and 80% of the board wasnt even interested in Will Howard... Why is everyone acting like we're missing out on gold by waiting.

Just vibe, we'll be fine either way.
Nobody should be freaking out, but I think people are concerned that other options like Howard and KJ could be off the board before Ward commits.

Even though it’s putting us in a precarious position, gotta admit the Ward’s are leveraging their position to the max. From the visits, to the Dad interviews, to allowing speculation to run rampant, they have played they’re hand masterfully.

Being the #1 portal QB, they realize they have the leverage to control their own destiny. They’re obviously controlling many factors including where other QB’s wind up. I honestly admire the way they’ve played their hand. Ultimately, we’re not the only ones waiting on a decision from Ward. As soon as he decides what he’s going to do, a lot of other cards will drop.

Really wish we would have made a bigger play for Howard. It’s all good. The Oline bigger and better got a great run game. With a decent game manager and vocal leader under center Miami gonna be good. That DLine gonna be beast

Agreed.

I can understand their position. Makes no sense chasing a dime piece, if you are going to have to settle for a deuce.

Most rather land the guaranteed seven / eight and move on.

Tough to blame 'em.

everyone fails to account for the player side who is intentionally playing it close to the vest but leading the suitor into believe they have a great chance. otherwise they would lose all their options. so they tell miami how much they like it and that they want to just take a look at the NFL but what they really don't tell you is how seriously they are considering the other options.

I’ve said it multiple times but CIS is making a lot of assumptions. Those are also based on emotions.

I think it’s clear the below:
1. Ward is the guy we want.
2. I think it’s pretty certain ward is deciding between Miami Vs NFL

The thought that Ward and is holding up Miami to leverage more NIL or just waiting for someone else to come in is assumption. Is it possible, sure. But at this point I think it’s clear and plenty of people have backed it up.

Wards next college will likely be Miami. The kicker is if he will play in college another year. The family and him are mulling over the decision. It also sounds like the staff has been told as such.

A lot of people can disagree that he is making a mistake mulling of the NFL like this. But it’s his decision. Kids dream of the NFL and the quicker they are in the league the quicker they are to contract #2. Where the money is. Is it the right decision, in my opinion no. But it’s not my decision.

If he does decide NFL, not a lot sleep should be lost. Most QB haven’t made a decision. There are plenty of guys available and possible to hit the portal after Bowl season. The money is there for NIL and we will be fine at QB. A good starter is pivotal. But I don’t think we need a Heisman contender either to win 10 games. We will be fine.

I still hold the opinion, after following this thing way too closely, that Ward will pick Miami in the next few days. No need to get upset he has not yet

The question is how serious is he about the NFL? I’ve always viewed it as a negotiation ploy but maybe he’s in fact thinking of taking the jump. There’s somebody in his camp pushing the nfl hard. Imo It would be idiotic with his NIL money on the table here and his uncertainty in the draft. Nobody expected the NFL to be a legit option.
Oh no Cribby seems only 95% confident now. Do I need to panic like everybody else?

I’m not worried for one reason:

This upcoming season could be make or break for Mario. He knows he HAS to have a good year, period. The current roster situation for the most important position on the field is obviously bleak for 2024. If he has to, he’ll ’overpay’ for a guy that’ll at least be a good option for a year even if it’s not the home run in Ward. We’re not going into next season with Brown or Emory.

I wouldn't go that far. I'd say his camp has (at least publicly since I along with 99% of us have no insight into the private discussions unfolding) have handled this fairly straightforward. It's Miami that seems to be just fumbling over themselves from a public perspective. The Howard courting seemed promising at first from a process perspective, though now it seems to have simply been a half-assed attempt to drum up fake competitive tension that we folded on fast. If Miami was going to do a true 'first man to accept' scenario as was claimed here originally, they folded rapidly. Since that first week, what has Miami done right? No movement on bringing any incremental names to campus, us drawing and re-drawing a line in the sand on our communicated "deadline," and a desperate social media hashtag campaign? A rumor of us being intrigued by KJ Jefferson (not even a scheduled visit) is not going to bother their camp. Miami needs Ward IMO more than he needs us, and we only furthered the issue here by designing a poor process it seems.

The good news is, just because that is true, does not mean that this wouldn't be a highly beneficial opportunity for both parties. Ward also objectively has risk on his side in making a poor decision (can easily be a camp cut in the wrong circumstance, as he shows some bad habits on tape and the NFL employs a much more conservative approach to QB play still than college, willing to accept less boom for less bust. It's how someone like Trevor Siemian and Jake Browning get snaps). Caveat of course iss, this is just my outside in assessment on something 100x more nuanced given again, I have zero insight into nature of discussions other than what's posted here and being communicated to reporters.

If deal falls through and he goes to NFL (really don't want to entertain him going to FSU), Miami should try to see who can be coaxed into portal. I know Pratt opted out of the bowl game and announced he would be in the Senior Bowl, but is he really formally declared or still 'monitoring?' E.g. I'm going to the NFL unless Miami has an opening and $2mm to throw at me. Other names I'd look at are Klubnik at Clemson, Fifita at Arizona, or Jalon Daniels at Kansas

Negatively recruited by the NFL? Wow we are really reaching now.
lol! Cmon now man. I’m not saying I agree with what the poster saying. But I definitely “comprehend” the question he or she is trying to ask.

He or she is saying “other schools negatively recruiting Mario with the he’s a QB killer narrative and that going to Miami would hurt his draft stock”

the way this situation is being handled especially when you weigh the risk reward of this so called "NFL" decision and I just think about what @apfenny3 said months ago and I'm really worried about Mario investing so much money and the future of the program into this dude.

Agree. People keep saying recruiting is Mario's specialty, but this is mega different than HS recruiting in So Fla. We don't have 2-3 years of relationship building with Ward and his family. We don't have inroads in his community network (coaches, teachers, trainers, relatives, handlers, 7 on 7 folks, etc.). He didn't grow up a fan of Miami to my knowledge, nor is there local pull working in our favor. The hashtag campaign (people claim it was fan-inspired though struggle to think staff didn't nudge it) was what really concerned me. Not that I thought it was overly corny (as that's the nature of CFB these days on social media), but how misguided an approach it felt. Hope I'm totally wrong
