Punt returners

Im actually one Of the few who liked Braxton berrios back there...he never took it to the house but he also never fumbled that i can remember... but I would love to see something new back there

He housed 2 of them with one being called back on a BS penalty

Even more reason I dont mind him being back there..he left some yards on the field but he made some decent plays also. at least keep Braxton back there when he's fair catching inside the 20

I like to have speed back there, but "catch the punt" is the first rule, so in any game we in control or ahead, it might not be a bad idea to avoid giving up big play on a change of possession --- kills defense to have to go back out there. I'd rather take my risk on the D on the first 3 downs.
It's time to play to win now

Too true. Winners have no time for fair catching and "field position".

IMO, we had Berrios back there because we knew he would be the most dependable in terms of not fumbling, while having little to no protection since we sent the house on most of the punts.

It's threads like these that let me understand more and more that most fans view real college football like they're playing NCAA or Madden on the PlayStation

Every return should include at least one spin move, stiff arm, or 90 degree juke move. Bonus points for hurdling a defender.

Real football guys who chew glass and wipe their butts with old newspapers know that fair catches on punts and taking knees on kickoffs are how the game is supposed to be played. Fvck trying to score or flip field position. Football is all about being conservative and waiting for the other guy to make a mistake.

I can see it now: someone fumbles a punt and possibly cost a game and in comes " Man I knew we should kept Berrios back there" I agree we def need a game changer back there, but Richt wants someone reliable. I highly doubt Thomas takes the job in the beginning. I can see multiple guys being used to see who emerges as best option.

Thank God Coker wasn't this scared when Hester arrived on campus. Or else we would have been stuck with a reliable soap horse like Kevin Beard as our return man. He had such reliable hands and was so heady.

Who are we working in at KR? that more important imo.

There is only one opportunity per game where you can receive a kickoff not following your opponent scoring. If the defense is at the level most expect it to be at in '17, there will be far more punts to be fielded and hopefully converted into points or good starting field position than KO's.

Sorry, I don't get it. I don't recall Hester ever fumbling a kick or punt, college or pro.

When you have a defense like we do, don't put them on a short field. If you have a defense like DoNo's, it doesn't matter, they'll score from anywhere on the field. Over the course of a season it's the smart play.

That may have been the only right move Coker made while he was here

Berries = Hester

Richt's red flags:

-Berrios and Lewis returning kicks

-sticking with Linder at center until his body broke

-offensive gameplans in the month of October

-using a fullback

You're being kind w/r/t richt' offense.

It stunk for most of the year. ****, even the early part of the bowl game was really bad.

I'm willing to chalk this up to a lack of speed/talent, even though we had Njoku and Coley.

Let's see what he does with a QB who can move around, guys like Homer, Thomas, Harley, Mullins in the mix.

Obviously, what we saw for most of last season from CMR the playcaller wasn't good enough, but there was a clear lack of speed to work with imo.

What does lack of speed have to do with a hb dive on almost every 2nd and long?

Richt the head coach has done a lot of good things. Richt the OC was pretty bad.

Yeah I hear ya

However, this year CMR will have the option of having Thomas, Harley, Dallas, Richards, Mullins on the field at the same time.

Whereas last season he didn't quite have the personnel to spread a defense out.

Still, he did a pretty ****** job for 1/3 of the season.

Did you see Hester never fumble BEFORE he actually got the chance to field kicks?

You fraidy cats think that Berrios is the only guy who can catch kicks. Catching kicks and being a threat to score aren't mutually exclusive. You can do both.

Berrios was solid. Some people just think youth+speed=return glory. It's bull****.

Yeah never really understood why so many didn't like Berrios at PR. I thin he was good back there. But We have a lot of guys who can fill that role. Dallas, Thomas, Harley, Mullins apparently. So I'm not worried about PR.

But I didn't really like our KR last year. Will be interesting to see who we put back there this yr.

Not at all.. especially when they're doing dumb s*** like catching the ball out of bounds on the 1 yard line to start the f***ing game. stuff like that can single handedly lose you a game smh. That being said I think berrios is fine at punt return because he secures the punt after the defense worked hard to get the opposition off the field and despite what most say gives us a threat to flip the field position but we better put Thomas, Harley, or dallas at KR. We need someone capable of snatching momentum back after giving up a score. plus at PR its more pressure to secure as its usually bodies around you and if your dangerous they can just kick it out of bounds or high to keep it away from you but KR is usually in the field of play with about a 10 yard running start.

Everybody gets that if can be done, we're just giving Richt a little credit. If nobody else was doing it, maybe nobody else on that team could do it and be spared.
