Punt returners

Im actually one Of the few who liked Braxton berrios back there...he never took it to the house but he also never fumbled that i can remember... but I would love to see something new back there

Berrios is the GOAT fair catcher.

Defenders will be 40-50 years away and he'd still fair catch the ball. He is such a gamer!

Braxton was/is a very good punt returner - very reliable, good decisions but also produces. Was 4th in the ACC with an 11 ypr average, had a TD and very nearly 2 others.

I agree that our KR's have been terrible choices since the days of Richard Gordon, with the lone exceptions of Duke Johnson and Corn while they each did it briefly. Literally anyone can return it to the 20, any rb/wr/db can consistently return it to the 30, the guys that should be back there are the ones who can potentially house it, but we have not been putting those dudes back there.

Less Welker isn't good at anything, except for fair catches and catching the ball with his facemask.

He housed 2 of them with one being called back on a BS penalty

Even more reason I dont mind him being back there..he left some yards on the field but he made some decent plays also. at least keep Braxton back there when he's fair catching inside the 20

I like to have speed back there, but "catch the punt" is the first rule, so in any game we in control or ahead, it might not be a bad idea to avoid giving up big play on a change of possession --- kills defense to have to go back out there. I'd rather take my risk on the D on the first 3 downs.

The Pantheon of Punt Returners will be in order of their reign: Deion Sanders, Devin Hester, and JT Money.

Anyone that says Jeff Thomas will fumble has never seen him play. Not only can he move like Hester but he has hands like glue!

Berrios has been solid but unspectacular. Like mentioned earlier, he tends to play it a little too safe in regards to fair catching punts. There's been quite a few times he could have picked up a few yards but chose to fair catch it instead. Which is kind of why his average was so high. He wouldn't return anything unless he had twenty yards of space. I'm hoping one of these youngsters can make a serious push for PR KR spots. There's no reason Miami should have subpar return men. Especially with the depth they're wrangling now.

The dude abides with your assessment.

LOL at UM fans being so brainwashed by the last 20 years of ultra-conservative HCs into thinking UM should be deploying Wisconsin's PR philosophy.

UM should thrive at PR and KR with the access we have to small shifty guys with blazing speed. PR and KR should be a distinct advantage for UM against everyone. It shouldn't be a spot where our focus is finding the heady guy who is the most reliable.

With parity the way it is in today's game, we need to look for every advantage we have and exploit it to its maximum. Every TD matters.

With our elite defense we should aboslutely take on the perceived risk of moving away from a slow and overly cautious Berrios who can't juke a punter for a homerun threat in JT or whoever. It's about time we see a special teams touchdown this year.

I'd love to see Jeff Thomas in there at some point in his UM career but since he's arriving late i doubt we'll see him there much his freshman year.

This man has been returning kicks since he has been playing football you think missing a month of spring ball he wont be ready by September?
