I'd love to see Jeff Thomas in there at some point in his UM career but since he's arriving late i doubt we'll see him there much his freshman year.

This man has been returning kicks since he has been playing football you think missing a month of spring ball he wont be ready by September?

It's not necessarily about that. Punt returner is a trust position first and foremost and he's already going to be behind Mullins, Dallas, and Berrios in that respect. Most coaches try not to overload freshman too early that's all i'm saying. I don't doubt his ability.

Berrios was solid, and I can't fault him for so many fair catches, considering how often we went after the punter and the fact that he really had no space to move even if he did make the first defender miss. With that said, we need a gamechanger back there. I think we'll see Thomas and/or Dallas as our main returners throughout the season.

Richt isn't afraid to put a true freshman back there. I believe Isaiah McKenzie returned punts as true freshmen at UGA.

Yeah never really understood why so many didn't like Berrios at PR. I thin he was good back there. But We have a lot of guys who can fill that role. Dallas, Thomas, Harley, Mullins apparently. So I'm not worried about PR.

But I didn't really like our KR last year. Will be interesting to see who we put back there this yr.

As some have said, the hate on Berrios at PR is a bit unjustified. Can we do better, yes, but could also do worse.

KR on the other hand has been completely atrocious. We were consistently non-spectacular on that front and never put our offense in position with a short field. 10 yds more on a KO can be the difference between a punt and FG.

Im actually one Of the few who liked Braxton berrios back there...he never took it to the house but he also never fumbled that i can remember... but I would love to see something new back there

He housed 2 of them with one being called back on a BS penalty

Almost had a 3rd (FSU) where he made the wrong decision at the last second and got tripped up.

Blame Ryan Mayes, he should've put that punter on his A$$!
Naw fam. That was all on Berrios. You never let the kicker tackle you. Especially I'm open field.

I thought we were supposed to see the kid from the track team on the team this Spring? I don't remember his name but he's out of Texas and someone posted highlights of his high school days returning punts and kickoffs.

Lmao this is a troll job 100%.

Thomas, Harley, Deejay, Mullins & even Jhavonte Dean can all be KR/PR's this year.

Berrios is good insurance to have just in case some of the young guys have trouble catching the ball...
Berrios is guaranteed to never fumble a Punt ever, he's the most sure handed fair catcher in the Nation.

With that said, I'm excited to see the young guys get out there & house a couple Punts/Kick Offs for TD's, that was an element we were missing big time last year.

We need a dynamic athlete back there that can give us great Field position to start drives & possibly score for us, it's huge part of the game we need to get back to.

It's threads like these that let me understand more and more that most fans view real college football like they're playing NCAA or Madden on the PlayStation

Every return should include at least one spin move, stiff arm, or 90 degree juke move. Bonus points for hurdling a defender.

I can't say I agree with this sentiment. Maybe a guy like Berrios is sufficient for most teams, but not at Miami. We should always have a guy returning punts and kickoffs that strikes fear in our opponents minds. A guy that can house a kick on every return. For me, that's as much Miami football as an aggresive defense.

Who are we working in at KR? that more important imo. We've got a lotta guys that i feel confident in returning Punts. But KR is a little different. Would like to see Homer back there.

I can see it now: someone fumbles a punt and possibly cost a game and in comes " Man I knew we should kept Berrios back there" I agree we def need a game changer back there, but Richt wants someone reliable. I highly doubt Thomas takes the job in the beginning. I can see multiple guys being used to see who emerges as best option.

All I have to say is there is really no excuse to have Berrios returning punts with all the speed we will have on the team this season, true freshmen or not. He was reliable last season, but it's time to put someone back there who is a serious threat to score.

And no, a return against FAMU and a decent one against FSU (that would have been housed by someone faster/shiftier, truth be told) is not what I mean by "serious threat."

Even more reason I dont mind him being back there..he left some yards on the field but he made some decent plays also. at least keep Braxton back there when he's fair catching inside the 20

I like to have speed back there, but "catch the punt" is the first rule, so in any game we in control or ahead, it might not be a bad idea to avoid giving up big play on a change of possession --- kills defense to have to go back out there. I'd rather take my risk on the D on the first 3 downs.
It's time to play to win now
