Practice 8/20 notes

If Kaaya starts is what I'm saying.

Kaaya is my pick at QB.

But I'm speaking the hypothetical. Don't be surprised, we've had it happen before. I really could see Heaps leaving if Kaaya gets the job. The guy has left two programs already, don't let anything slip you.

We've had it before? Yeah, by guys who had at least one year of eligibility left. Not by a guy who would be out of eligibility. Where is going to go? ITT Tech?

Heard he's 5'10 - 5'11

What's the average on our OL?

Maybe 6'5

Works fine for Drew Brees and Jonny M.

And just about no one else on the planet.

In the NFL, but it sure worked for a lot of guys in college. Shaun King was under 6 feet (actual height, I knew him at Tulane, though he was listed at 6-1) and he set NCAA records for QB efficiency. Joe Hamilton was 5-10, and was a Heisman candidate at Ga Tech. Heck, Brock Berlin was listed at 6-1, and that's being generous, and he had a very good senior year for us in 2004. There are plenty of others too in college who were very short, and did just fine.

I'm gonna leave something here and remember I said it. Don't be surprised if Kaaya is the starter that this Heaps guy is gonna throw a fit and leave.

Well he did it and two other schools so it wouldn't surprise me...didnt throw a fit but he left abruptly...Dudes only chance after us is DIII school

He did say he did not come to miami to be the backup.I'm sure he had no idea a true freshman would beat him out here.

Wouldn't necessarily constitute a "fit." He might well be disappointed and, since he already has his degree, he might not see any point in staying at UM. Seems like a perfectly natural reaction rather than a "fit." Why stay in a bad marriage?

But, of course, this is all hypothetical because we don't actually know who the starter will be.

Whoa....That's a bold deal right there.

I don't think he will leave, he will probably bet his last year of eligibility on Kaaya not playing well and needing to be replaced after a few games.

If he walks....CFB is over for him, yes? The guy has walked from two other schools, but this is last of the Mohicans for him. If Kayaa starts and struggles, he'll probably be plugged in and given the shot he's lookin for. That's all the dude can ask/wish/work for...A shot.

If Geo is suggesting Hecht politics, the coaches may be more concerned with keeping Olsen then appeasing Heaps. Unless folks think the staff have given up on Olsen, I'm not so sure that's the case. I know Olsen is a no-go for Lville, but there may be some value in helping him develop. He may very well transfer, but until he does.....

Leave and go where exactly? Going to leave when he is 1 play away from being the starter (if Kaaya wins the job)

Throw enough **** at the way and eventually some sticks.

Wow u got so amped up typing that you completely missed the word if. Heaps has a history of leaving schools so how off base was the thought of him leaving?

Raising Canes: One Guy
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes held a two-a-day session of #CanesCamp on the Greentree Practice Fields Wednesday.

The two-a-day session was Miami’s first action since Monday’s scrimmage and second day of practice this week. Head coach Al Golden felt the staff learned a lot about the 2014 Hurricanes during the final scrimmage of camp.

“Well No. 1, we stayed healthy,” Golden said. “I think that’s important. It was crisp. Was it perfect? No. I think we learned a lot about a lot of different players. I think we played 32 [players] on defense and a little bit more than that on offense with the wideout and tight end position. So we learned a lot about our guys. It was a good run. Had a good day yesterday catching up on the film and gave them last night off. I thought we got two good ones in today. We have no more scrimmages, but camp is still pretty much full-swing right now.”

Quarterbacks Brad Kaaya and Ryan Williams impressed in the 7-on-7 period. Kaaya connected with tight end Clive Walford for a 20-yard gain and found receiver Malcolm Lewis twice for gains of over 20 yards.

Williams also found receiver Phillip Dorsett 30 yards downfield and the senior wideout took the ball 40 more yards into the end zone for a touchdown.

Senior quarterback Jake Heaps was back in action Wednesday after not participating in Monday’s scrimmage to rest his arm. But Heaps impressed offensive coordinator James Coley on Wednesday.

“He’s great,” Coley said. “Today he threw some really nice balls. He was a little sore the other day, so better safe than sorry. He’s played a lot of football and we felt we’d hold him off the scrimmage, don’t let him aggravate it. He came out here today and threw some darts out there, so, I’m not worried about it all. He’s throwing right now. Look at him. Turn the cameras around. There he is.”

The defense also was involved as several passes were broken up and sophomore cornerback Corn Elder had an interception. Elder, who is in the mix for significant playing time at corner, joined Artie Burns and Anthony Chickillo as the only players who were in black jerseys on Wednesday afternoon. Defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio said that was a reflection of their strong play in Monday’s scrimmage.

“As far as a black jersey it’s did you do your job, and did you finish every play,” D’Onofrio said. “At the end of the day, it’s a hard thing to get.”

“Artie had a really strong performance,” D’Onofrio said. “Competed like crazy and made a lot of plays. Corn, excellent. Was a playmaker in the scrimmage. Made a lot of plays, technique was good, played really hard.”

“[Chickillo] Keeps doing a really good job,” D’Onofrio said. “Made a lot of plays. Really doing an unbelievable job of doing his job every play, and he’s making more plays than ever.”

With other students moving in to the dorms and preparing for orientation this week, Golden will look to the leaders on the Hurricanes to keep the team focused as they look to finish #CanesCamp strong.

“It’s a challenge, there’s no question,” Golden said of maintaining focus. “Do we want them to stray right now? No. We put too much effort into this. What we need is great leadership right now and we’ve got to use our experience. I keep saying, ‘What did we learn from last year?’ I hope experience is one of those things. This is when we need our leaders to step up and say, ‘We just have put too much into it to start ******** around 10 days out or 12 days out or wherever we are.’ No doubt about it, distractions increase as the game gets close and, man, we really have to bunker down and learn from last year and I hope our leadership can help us with that.’’

The Canes will return to Greentree Thursday for a morning practice at 8:20 a.m. For the latest information on Miami Hurricanes Football, follow @CanesFootball on Twitter.

Does this jersey switching stuff work?

I think it worked at first when he got here and now on the younger guys that come in it works. its to motivate the guys to bring out there best.it doesnt work on the older guys who know they will start.

I know why they do it, I was curious if it works.

I just look at as their way of saying, you are not doing everything you can do if you are not in the black or orange. I see it as a way of making sure they know and everyone else knows that more is expected of them.

I know exactly what his post said.

And like I said, where is he going to go? And why would he leave?

I'd be willing to bet it will work with TH when two other dudes are CB's. He got abused on that run by Trayone, and did his usual head down weak tackling. I love his game, but his tackling needs work. So I think it would work there.... anyone who takes pride in what they do it should work on. Don't be surprised to hear about a few monster hits by DP if he don't get his back soon, yeah I'm talking to you Gus Bus... you might want to talk to the coaches to make sure he don't get too ****ed about not having his black jersey...lol
