Post Game Recap: Duke

I know **** all about OL but it “seems” to me that we want it to be McCoy and Rivers on the left side. I know McCoy has been hurt since before the season and Rivers has been banged up but the sentiment was Bell was a year away when he got here
OL play at this level is a combo of size, speed and agility; not much different than many other positions. However, when you're talking about guys that are 6'5"+ and 320+, finding the agile component becomes tougher and tougher. There is so much action packed into a 4 yard deep x 10 yard box, that it should be accompanied by Tiny Tim's "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" as these behemoths move each other around in small spaces. This is why Cici is so amazing to me. He moves like a person who is 100 lbs lighter and a little shorter. He is an anomaly.

Back to the point at hand, Rivers is probably our second best OL. Whether he plays G or T doesn't much matter to me as long as he's on the field. That said, it becomes a matter of who's better - McCoy at G or Bell at T? I think that's what the coaches have been trying to figure out. Without dissecting the film and counting data points, I don't know the answer to that. Based on the time I've spent during games watching the OL play, I would say yes, McCoy and Rivers at G and T respectively is probably our best move over Rivers and Bell, but that is just the ole eye ball test without data to back it up.

I'm done pontificating. For now.

PS. I prefer to Tiptoe through her Two lips vs the Tiny Tim version.

@Memnon out of curiosity- if you were a DC prepping for Miami what would your gameplan be? Do you see any blind spots with the scheme that can be exploited? Personnel issues? Any bad tendencies from Dawson?

I know you devour a ton of CFB- any DCs/Defenses out there this year that could be a bad matchup for this offense, from a scheme or personnel wise?
Drop 7 & bracket cover Restrepo.

Play Man on the Outside & force JGeorge or Brown to beat you one on one.

If the other weapons have a great day, then there's nothing that can be done about it, but I wouldn't allow for Restrepo to get comfortable or go off at all. He would be doubled up from the coin toss.

Then I would send delayed Blitzers from multiple angles to bombard the OL at the edge. If they put #70 out there at LT, I'm sending 2, sometimes 3 to his side & looping DL's all over the line.

Anytime #4 was in the game, I'm sending an A-Gap Blitzer, with the Will holding contain on the backside.

The major weak point, is the OL. When you put heavy pressure on them with speed, you can get to the QB, all you have to do is properly sequence the play calls & time the Blitzes for when Cam scans the field & you can bumrush the OL with speed on the Edge with delays all day.

More importantly, how do we fix the D

@Memnon Are you sure you ain't working as a double/triple agent for the ACC/SEC/Biggg?! How you just gonna put a spot on defensive gameplan to beat us in a public space? Cappng on the lost season of my HS alma mater is one thing but this. But now you've gone to far! Brutha gotta draw the line somewhere Da heckkkk

You're correct though, gotta pick your poison w/ this offense and ride with it.

Most folks don't understand OL play. Simply throwing it out there because it helps me personally cope with people commenting on line play. In this case, I would simply modify the statement to "Bell is a lot better at run blocking (in a straight line) than he is at pass blocking." That's not to say he's a good run blocker, simply that in comparison to his pass protection, he is better at run blocking. And yes, I acknowledge that I'm nitpicking.
Here's a real question - where's Samson?
Yeah that’s fair, and the comment I responded to wasn’t really the one I was making the statement about. More just the overall idea in here that he’s a good run blocker. Like you said, line someone up right in front of him and tell him to just go, and it’s fine, but that is so rarely the case and the same issues that come up in pass pro are what come up when he has to try to maneuver space in the run game, namely, lack of short area agility. There have been so many times this year where our backs get to the second level and get tripped up by a backer that Bell was barely unable to get a block on.

Our ceiling depends on matchups, i love us against georgia, texas, penn state,

I don’t like us vs oregon, osu, Tennessee…i wanna say bama too but it depends which milroe shows up but i feel like deboer would work guidry. Osu is debatable too but im higher on them than most, also lower on texas than most
Tenn 🙃

Do you think the issues on D fall on Guidry and his scheme/philosophy, or is it the talent at DB/LB, or a mix of it both. I recall you were high on Guidry last year so curious your thoughts. Sounds like we need better depth/talent in the secondary and get lateral, coverage guys at LB to mix in with pass rushing LBs. I think the LB issue will be fixed with guys like Pruitt, Hayes, Washington developing.
Lack of athletic talent at LB, CB & Safety.

Jimmy's & Joe's...

I will see your delayed blitz off the edge, and raise you: “Check 2 echo, 2 whiskey” …. Both backs (2 X personnel) in check protection.

(Just saying) 😜

If you go 22, then that means you're taking a WR off the field, which gives the advantage to the Defense in coverage.
