Post Game Recap: Duke

Tennessee's Defense is what makes them a playoff contender this year.

They have an ELITE pass rush lead by James Pearce Jr (who will be a top 5 pick) & one of the top 10 best Corners in CFB this season in Jermond McCoy the transfer they brought in from Oregon ST.

The best thing they do Offensively is run the ball surprisingly enough.

I think we could beat them in a shootout, but the matchup of James Pearce Jr vs our OL would be a tough one.

Texas is Hot & Cold. Ewers doesn't appear to have the killer instinct at QB that's needed to get them over the hump. From what I've noticed, he goes in the tank early when things get rough. He flat out quit in the UGA game & I've seen multiple times throughout his career where he just puts his head down & sulks when he faces adversity. He doesn't deal with pressure well at all & if you can get him to turn the ball over early, he'll pack it up.

BUT, they have very very very good Offensive weapons, that when they're going at optimum level, they're very difficult to beat. They have a sh*t ton of team speed & they're the kinda of team that if they catch you on the right day, it'll be over quick.

From a purely matchup standpoint, Ole Miss would give us the most trouble, because they have a top 5 QB, very good WR Corps & their Defense is actually pretty good this year.

Oregon would be a shootout in a race to 50.

Oh ST would be about simply getting to Will Howard. They're a first half team, if you Cam survive their first half barrage & contain the Deep ball, they're very. beatable.

UGA is the team I most would want to play. We would beat the **** outta them. And I know that will upset the Georgia lovers, but Idc, we beat that team on a neutral field.
Ole miss is getting underrated at this point but rightfully so after dropping two early on. They should get their top 10 spot back after this week, no reason they shouldn’t beat uga at home

Beck has been on his tvd **** these last 5 games

Also with will howard he will contain osu deep ball for us lol he stinks at it, im high on them they were my pre season natty pick but their margin for error is slim because of him

Loved your post, bud, as always.

Disagree on your Bell take and I know you've been consistent with it. He's our LT next year - almost 100% guaranteed, imo. I suppose it's possible he and FM will swap but based on his trajectory this year and gradual improvement, he's good.

I am not as down on his play as you are. Has he been a step slow on pass pro for speed rush? Sure, but it's been improving all year. Once he gets his hands on his guy, it's a wrap. He's a mauler on the run game and it's no coincidence that Bell/Rivers has been our most productive combo in the run game. Keep in mind that he's a JUCO guy playing in his first year and JC players are generally pretty darn raw.

Had no idea on white spats. I know even back to the early 90s, white spats was popular with our skill position guys, and occasionally, DBs would wear them (I remember Dexter Seigler typically wore it). I'd rather them wear black cleats and black socks, if we're talking fashion.

Idk about it improving all year.

He looked pretty terrible against Cal, USF & FSU in pass protection.

He's a solid run blocker when all he has to do is go forward, but he really struggles moving laterally & when he plays against Speed rushers he's a flat out liability.

I mean he could be a shoo-in at LT for next year, but doesn't mean that's a good thing. Especially considering we won't have Cam's elite escapability in the pocket.

I'm no OL expert, but I know one thing, yall better hope to God that Emory isn't the starting QB next year with Bell at LT, that would be a disaster.

If you're posting that gif as a reflection of how bad he is, I don't think that's it. That sack was more on Cam than on Bell. I disagree on your pass pro assessment but I acknwoledged he struggles against a good speed rush (so does FM). For those, I do think he's imrpoved. But like I said, he has been getting more reps and spring will be a big test.

A couple of depth pieces would come in handy now if they were CBs or safeties.

If you're talking about guys like Caleb Downs, they know where they're going before they enter the portal. Mario should already be back channeling them (through their agents).
Our entire secondary is depth pieces outside of OJ. Talent on field is severely lacking.

Nice write-up. I love the focus on OJF. He's playing at such a high level, I'm honestly shocked. I don't think his Int would have been a catch even if Murray placed it perfectly, because Frederique was right in that receiver's hip, and only separated intentionally at the end to track the ball. He PBUs that throw if it were accurate.

100% agree on revamping the entire rest of the backfield. Damari looked different vs FSU before injury, and he'll need time to recover to game form, so I'll wait to judge him. The rest of the DBs do not meet Miami standards, IMO. Maybe they can get there with more reps. But they don't deserve game reps. We need to find 6 more DBs across HS and portal who can play now to get a healthy two deep. If guys like Hill and Richard have to portal back out, so be it. We let a ton of decent but not great DEs transfer out last offseason in order to bring in more talent. If that's what it takes to get DB right, we need to do it there, too.
It definitely wouldn't have been a PBU.

If the ball is placed on the Inside, Romanas wouldn't had the opportunity to get to it in time at the catch point. He was playing Outside leverage to the Boundary side, which means he's even with the Sideline. If Murphy puts on the WR's inside shoulder, it's a catch.

The only thing he could've done is try to play through the hands & knock the ball down out of the WR's hands, but he wasn't gonna get to it at its apex.

Trust me, I know what I'm talking about on this one.

Our ceiling depends on matchups, i love us against georgia, texas, penn state,

I don’t like us vs oregon, osu, Tennessee…i wanna say bama too but it depends which milroe shows up but i feel like deboer would work guidry. Osu is debatable too but im higher on them than most, also lower on texas than most
This. Exactly. Bama tenn Oregon osu would shred us with their receivers and OC’s. Penn state and Georgia have big offensive flaws

No, that gif was to show the "improvement' hasn't actually been there considering he literally just gave up a Sack last game.

And that sack was not on Cam, Bell gets pushed back into the QB which forces Cam to have to climb the pocket & as soon as he does, Bell loses positioning & the DE is at Cam before he even has a chance to throw.

Bell's pass protection hasn't looked good against teams with a good pass rush. Cal & FSU had him looking silly out there. The best he's looked in Pass pro was against VA Tech & LVille, but otherwise, it hasn't been good.

Big reason why Arroyo has disappeared from the offense.

Have had the same breakdown with those teams. Oregon scares me the most because I think Gabriel picks us apart. But Georgia? I need that game because we smoke them.

Also if Bama makes it I don't like how we've played vs athletic playmaking QBs but I'd imagine at some point his inaccuracy shows itself and we get it done.

That UGa hatred is strong with you. I love it.

I don't think Milroe could win a shootout game but every offense we face is going to have success. Every!

Not to belabor that gif but I disagree with your view of it. He went backwards a step or 2 but then held his ground well. The blocker then disengaged as he was blocked off of Bell by Martinez and Cam changed the location of the pocket. Had Cam stayed where he was and Martinez not added the block to push the rusher off Bell, then there would be no issue on that side. But, we are REALLY nitpicking here and if that's as bad as it gets, I think we're in good shape. JMO

It's been much worse, I'll post the rest later.
