Post Game Plus/Minus: FAU

I'm not a big fan of the 5 yard curl/stop routes we run (Dorsett on INT).

Let these speed burners stretch the entire field. Forget dinking and dunking underneath he defense (we've got Duke on check downs to do that).

Dorsett should never run a stop route for the rest of the year.

PS: where were the back shoulder throws?

SMH. When a WR has wheels like Dorsett alot of people will play 'off' coverage. The curls/stops are there for the taking.

Wasn't he lined up in the slot on that 5 yard curl route right on top of the LB.

I saw us working on this in practice. I hate it. Has a Patrick Nix feel to it.

I'll preface thus by saying I did not read any of the 4 pages so far.

Miami dominated this game. The scoreboard doesn't reflect it, but I was pretty **** happy with the performance. The dropped for sure pick six, Coley's bad drops (which I think will be good for him going forward) notwithstanding.. it was good. the D looked pretty good. That was a better performance than any last year.

For anyone ****ing about the offense, there is no way Coley was going to give UF anything to gameplan against. Those constant WR screens were annoying as **** to watch, but I imagine Miami will throw the kitchen sink at UF.

Miami shutting down the read option bodes well for next Saturday.

The DL was stout.

I have a few issues with this "he didn't show. his cards" stuff.

1) I've heard it before, last year, during the NYJ preseason where the offense looked dysfunctional, but people claimed it was bc Sparano was "not showing the offense".....turns out, the offense was just wretched, with horrendous play design.

2) I saw the defense stunt, blitz, and play several different fronts. Why would you show so much on defense but not offense?

It's a different system for the kids, one that at FSU has never been what I'd call "creative" in the passing game.

I get what your saying. Miami took very few shots down field tonight. I don't think what the NY Jets did in preseason is relevant... But we will see. UF is a huge game, I think it will be easier to tell what kind of offense Miami will attempt to have in that game. I just highly doubt, despite 500!! total yards, Coley was going to show UF the full ****nal. Miami barely attacked the middle of the field, which I expect them to do in 8 days.

I hope so as well. We shall see.

MY THOUGHTS:

*Morris looked awful. Looked like a **** Freshman out there tonight. Multiple bone-headed plays. Two comical interceptions, forced throws, poor pocket presence. I don't know what the **** was going on with him tonight.

*We couldn't separate from FAU's DB's. You can forget about it against UF. What worries me the most is, I feel like it's due to play-design. I don't believe that our WR corp doesn't have the ability to gain separation from FAU DB's.

*The god **** OL shuffle. Stop ****in' around with these guys. Feliciano kills people at Guard, leave him at Guard. Let Henderson and Bunche fight it out at RT, or Flowers and Bunche at LT. Bunche is not a Guard! I watched him get beat multiple times tonight.

*Loved loved loved the defense. Good play-calling. **** disguising. Defensive line wasn't getting rolled. CB's looked decent. Not really confident with Jenkins at Safety just yet. Him and Crawford got beat over the top on a deep route but the WR dropped it. Not sure there's a better option anyways. Overall, defense is promising. The disguising was the best part to me.

*I think I like Gus. Dude looked good. Shifty.

*Kinda worried about Coley as an OC. If our WR's can't get open I have no choice but to question or scheme on offense. Last year guys were open all over the field. Tonight, almost all of Morris's throws were being contested, sometimes by multiple defenders.

I think this is a fair concern for Coley since it is the 1st game but maybe the receivers couldnt get separation b/c they were running a vanilla offense...

i dont know unti i see this offense against Florida but it seemed like Miami was running the same passing plays for the most part, which could explain the lack of separation.

S. Morris just was rusty.... its not like we havent seen what he can do before so i'm not going to panic over how he performed today.

and the Oline bull**** needs to stop.... Bunche isnt better then Henderson or Feliciano so he shouldnt be starting and Feliciano doesnt ever need to play at Tackle in front of Henderson.

The Offense played inconsistent but still put up big numbers and the defense was **** near perfect.... that is a great start for the rest of the season.

Zone I usually agree with u but wilcat is on point tonight

All the **** u writin is what nights would say.....excuses. Ide be shocked if we beat uf

I agree with alot of what I read on here. Just to add a few things...

1) Dont know if its been said enough but all things considered that was a GREAT crowd. Dont know the final tally but there had to have been 45k out there. For a Friday night, and considering the opponent you cant ask for better then that. Sets the stage for an even better crowd next Sat.

2) The Dline played great in my eyes. Porter couldnt ask for a better backup then Renfrow. Talk about a God send. Buddy was def serviceable. Saw him in on alot of plays.

3) If the Oline plays like that next week...Smh. Its gonna be a long Sat. They didnt dominate like they should have. And Morris looked like he was trying to go for the kill too early. He was too antsy. Like he had already made plans to take the 2nd half off and be up 42-0. He didnt seem settled. I dont know. Maybe it was jitters.

4) The thing most people dont understand about UF is that its not there offense im worried about. Its there DEFENSE. Those guys force turnovers like all ****, are physical, and have a **** good secondary. If our WRs couldnt go off against these guys..I dont know..Let me not say too much.

Great win! Go Canes!

We look rusty but good W. My only thing is the DTs and OL looked like ****. Theres no way we out physical Ufak. What was the big thing on the board with Porter dude was on skates, Pierre is the only inside guy I like so far.

Porter may not be a 100% b/c of his back but i saw him do a good job disrupting the O-line today.... Luther Robinson also. Jelani Hamilton, Kamalu, Green, Chickilo, AQM, and Gilbert all did a very good job putting pressure on the QB.

The OL did a good job in pass protection but those Guards arent that good in run support at all.... Seantrel Henderson is the best of the bunch imo. he was mauling dudes all game for the most part.

Gotta be kidding me. Our Guards are our best 2 linemen. The problem is this stupid *** shuffle they're doing. Bunche is terrible no matter where you put him. I watched him whiff multiple times tonight. They put Feliciano back at the Guard spot and what do ya know, big run.

I don't think Bunche sucks but Feliciano and Linder are 2 of the best OGs in college football. Feliciano is one mean mother ****** on the field. Flowers is a future top 10 pick but not sure there has been anyone better then Feliciano the last 2 years. Wish we would just go Flowers, Feliciano, McDermott, Linder, Henderson and let them work it out. Bunche can be #6

Man I just watched the highlights from the game and ****! did ya'll see the block from Hurns (I believe) on that Waters run? I didn't notice it during the game.

I really thought with the positive feedback on Cleveland and Sandland, we would see more from the tight ends. Maybe next week.

One thing that REALLY bothered me tonight and brought back some bad memories....

Twice during this game on 3rd/4th and short we ran the ball via a trap play. I can't even begin to articulate how much I HATE pulling guards on short yardage plays....especially when you have an O line as big as ours. It allows defenders to guess and shoot those gaps vacated by the pulling guards and possibly disrupt the play in the backfield.

Coker use to do this all the time...drove me crazy back then and pretty much drove me ape**** last night.

I'm going to chalk this night up as "not showing the Gators" anything....but I'll go on record as saying I saw ALOT of the FSU offensive elements from prior years which I absolutely hate. I want to see deeper intermediate and seam routes. We didn't challenge the middle of the field at all.

Thanks for the highlights because it seems like ESPN has a problem with showing our highlights...man were really gonna have to play be on our A game this year because I could easily see the reefs taking a game from us if we give them the chance.... I could still feel the hate towards the U from around the nation

I agree with your assessment on our last night's team performance.

I want to add something. Morris and the wide receivers need to work on connections between him and them.

3rd down conversion...very poor!

First game out...a solid win.

Next week we get challenged...time to make the progression from an ok team to a great team.

gus didnt just rumble down the field he was elusive and i think he can be a good back up for duke johnson that can make plays

This. Thought the same this. Moved a lot better then I thought he would. Was fairly elusive

Problems that need to be addresses ASAP

Offensive Line. Run blocking on short yardage is not good at all. It's a continuation from last year so you can't chalk it up to rust.
Special Teams wasn't good at all.
Stephen Morris needs to stop taking risks and needs to stop looking erratic.
WRs doesn't seem like a strength on this team

lots of things to be excited about like the defense. Just want both sides to fire on all cylinders

One aspect of special teams wasn't good, returns. Both new kicking specialist were money.

The biggest take away for me was conditioning. No one looked tired and we didn't have any cramping issues that you typically see in opening games. I think this team is actually ahead of schedule in terms of conditioning and that is going to be the difference in next weeks game.

Another great thing, there was not a huge drop off when the second unit on defense was on the field. With 19 of last seasons two deep returning and the addition of 3 veteran guys on the d line, the play on defense overall has greatly improved. This unit will continue to get better as the season goes on. It was such a relif to only see two true freshmen see significant playing time.

This early schedule is exactly what this team needed. We basically have 4 preseason games before we get into conference play. This is going to allow these guys to work out any kinks and allow the new guys to gel and adjust to the style of play. I know everyone is looking forward to the UF game but in reality this is just another tune up game for us. After Florida we play two more games that we should easily win and that will go a long way in terms of building confidence. By the time GT comes to town this team should be firing on all cylinders.

As spectacular as any other play was the catch that injured Scott. If someone did that on Sunday, it would be one of the "plays of the day." I hope he can come back this year.

I was very encouraged by the play of the D Line. They were stout against the run, and were able to get pressure on the FAU QB's. It is very easy to see that our guys are much stronger this year.

I like what I saw from Gus Edwards. I think he will by our #2 back by mid-season. He showed good vision and had a little shiftiness to him.

I am concerned about Morris and the offense. Frankly, Morris was awful and made several bad decisions. The jury is out on James Coley, but nothing I saw last night gave me hope that he can step in for Fisch and get the job done.

I saw two very poor throws but let's not forget the two would-be coley tds were right on the money. Coley makes those catches and nobody is complaining about Morris. Also the through to walford was almost percent
