Post Game Plus/Minus: FAU

Dude, SMH, c'mon. LOL

Linder's not physically imposing? He's 6'6" and our strongest player on the team. He's also our highest grading lineman game after game. (along with, guess who, Felciano)

I just watched our first (failed) 4th down play. Please go watch it and tell me who screwed up. I'll give you a hint: It wasn't a Guard. (and it had nothing to do with "push")

Nobody on the o-line was perfect and thats not what i'm trying to suggest.... but as strong as Linder and Feliciano are suppose to be, they dont move the line consistently in front of them, primarily in the run game.

All of our RBs struggled trying to run up the middle all game

All except one.

One Major criticism i got is Phillip Dorsett starting on every special teams return unit.... he's just not a good returner.

i rather Stacy Coley (KR/PR), Artie Burns (KR/PR), Jamal Carter (PR), Antonio Crawford(KR/PR), and/or Malcolm Lewis (PR) get those opportunities w/ Duke of course.

Well, with all due respect, you don't know what you're looking at. Watch again. Feliciano moves anything in his way. Go watch our first failed 4th down conversion.

You know what you right, I just saw it.... Feliciano and Linder moved their assignment up the field on that 4th down.

It looked like Bunche messed up on that play.... he was trying to come around and lead block but he either was late or didnt stretch out far enough to block the right man.

Bunche didn't block ANYBODY, which is why I say Feliciano should be at Left guard, cause he's great at pulling and finding his block.

And Flowers got beat across his face. The guy that Flowers was supposed to block is the defender who made the tackle behind the line.

Our OL outside of Feliciano and sometimes Linder struggle in zone blocking systems. It's why they are slow to react and plays get blown up. Their size is meaningless if they can't operate as a unit and think quickly. There's a reason OL have to be super smart.

+ Perennial JAGs Rodgers and Cornelius made some plays

+ 300 yards rushing

+ Newcomers making a contribution (Renfrow, Kamalu, Gilbert, O'Donnell, Muhammad, Figueroa, Burns, Elder, Sandland, Dobard, Grace, and Carter, probably forgetting someone)

+ Goudis

--------------

- Morris: the black Jay Cutler...will wow you with a throw then give you an ulcer with a stupid play

- Dorsett: route discipline sucks *******, him and Morris were on different pages tonight, sucks at PR

- James Coley: calling pass plays on 3rd and short is feminine, unless it's the occasional PA pass

- Stacy Coley: awful first game, needs to bounce back, needs to be at PR and KR

Just watched Morris on the replay after the second Coley drop. Yikes. Wish that had gone differently from all parties involved.

I also think we have to be prepared that the wide open air raid offense we ran last year which saw WRs in space is gone. Thinking back on it, we basically ran a shotgun spread air raid. And while I really liked how our passing offense looked, the typical tenets of. the air raid showed themselves:

- it never works against great defenses
- it puts. more pressure on your own defense
- running the ball is an afterthought
- it doesn't eat enough clock

Last year we were 90th in FBS in rushing. We ran for more yards tonight than in any game last year, by close to a hundred yards.

I think unfortunately we all overlooked the impact that changing systems would have on this offense. In addition, I always felt FSU QBs looked uncomfortable in the system, as SM did tonight. But the flip side is that FSU had a top ten rushing offense, and that's an acceptable trade off.

Problems that need to be addresses ASAP

Offensive Line. Run blocking on short yardage is not good at all. It's a continuation from last year so you can't chalk it up to rust.
Special Teams wasn't good at all.
Stephen Morris needs to stop taking risks and needs to stop looking erratic.
WRs doesn't seem like a strength on this team

lots of things to be excited about like the defense. Just want both sides to fire on all cylinders

Another big ******* minus: 4 TDs left on the field.

2 Coley drops

Perryman's dropped INT

Edwards' 4 straight carries from the goal line...the refs blew that call but it should have never got to that point

I'll preface thus by saying I did not read any of the 4 pages so far.

Miami dominated this game. The scoreboard doesn't reflect it, but I was pretty **** happy with the performance. The dropped for sure pick six, Coley's bad drops (which I think will be good for him going forward) notwithstanding.. it was good. the D looked pretty good. That was a better performance than any last year.

For anyone *****ing about the offense, there is no way Coley was going to give UF anything to gameplan against. Those constant WR screens were annoying as **** to watch, but I imagine Miami will throw the kitchen sink at UF.

Miami shutting down the read option bodes well for next Saturday.

The DL was stout.

I'm not a big fan of the 5 yard curl/stop routes we run (Dorsett on INT).

Let these speed burners stretch the entire field. Forget dinking and dunking underneath he defense (we've got Duke on check downs to do that).

Dorsett should never run a stop route for the rest of the year.

PS: where were the back shoulder throws?

Does UF run read option?

I have a few issues with this "he didn't show. his cards" stuff.

1) I've heard it before, last year, during the NYJ preseason where the offense looked dysfunctional, but people claimed it was bc Sparano was "not showing the offense".....turns out, the offense was just wretched, with horrendous play design.

2) I saw the defense stunt, blitz, and play several different fronts. Why would you show so much on defense but not offense?

It's a different system for the kids, one that at FSU has never been what I'd call "creative" in the passing game.

overall, i felt this team was treating this like a scrimmage. i felt they were already thinking ahead to uf.

morris always had the tendency to make some bad throws, however, he had two great passes dropped by coley and dorsett running horrible routes
so i think that had something to do with it. Herb looks great. Walford has improved alot.

gus is better than i thought. he did score on the 4th down but that back up ol didnt help him at all.
coley will probably be fine.

defense was faster stronger, and more aggressive. still it was fau. at the same time, kamalu, figs, aqm, and mccord are
all over. i mean that in a good way. i saw those numbers alot. Rodgers stepped up. I have to say, ambrister surprised some
people. i am really, really excited where this team will be next year. i always felt 2013 was the last class we needed to
get the depth to get us back on track. all in all, it was clear our team wasnt pumped for this game and hopefully, they show
for UF.

SMH. When a WR has wheels like Dorsett alot of people will play 'off' coverage. The curls/stops are there for the taking.
