Porter & Seantrel bolting for NFL? Thoughts?

I don't think Seantrel will be back. But, we'll see.

Think about how F*cked we're going to be on the OL if Seantrel leaves.

LT Bunche
LG Feliciano
C McDermott
RG Linder
RT Flowers

LT Gadbois
LG Isidora
C Wheeler
RG Briscoe?
RT Wells

How is that ****ed? Depth issues maybe, but you bring in a kid like Denver Kirkland who can give you snaps as a true freshman, Isadora has been getting good reviews. The sky is not falling.

Will be one of the best starting OL's we've had here in quite a while.

I like the potential a lot.

I would like to tinker with Linder moving to tackle and Bunche on the inside.

Bunche has been solid at LT, leave Linder at G, and Let Flowers play the other T spot. If anything maybe move Bunche to RT and let Flowers play LT. I like the direction of the OL right now. With that said I would love for Henderson to stay and become a 1st or 2nd round pick. Kid has ****ed away a lot of cash and would be foolish to leave early.

I know it is hard to forget about "what we hear" about certain kids, but would anyone expect either of these kids to declare early for the draft given what they have done so far.

If you are able to ignore everything behind the scenes with SH, would you even think he would enter the draft?

If Henderson leaves Flowers will probably move to LT full time and Bunche at RT.

I would be shocked if Porter left. Would be a terrible decision. He'd be lucky to go 6 or 7th round. I think he can be an NFL DT but he needs to show he can make it through a full CFB season before he can even think about the grind of an NFL season.

As for Seantrel, I really hope he stays but I wouldn't be shocked if he left. Would be a bad decision, but not the worst. He has better prospects than most of the guys who left last year. But if he stays he has a good shot to be a high pick with more strenght and improvement. He needs to show scouts some comittment to the game too. We could get by at OL without him, but it would be alot better with him.

porter has a lot of potential upside, but it is stuck in "potential". if he cannot stay healthy for the better part of a year, he is not going to make it in the NFL and will end up like Forston.

Nobody thought half those kids last year would dip either. Hopefully Porter remembers what happened to those guys that left early. SH is gone.

Henderson hasn't made himself any money this year if he leaves. He might want to stay especially after seeing last year's crop that left.

How in the world can someone call that OLine "****ed?" Especially coming from someone who used to work with the team and knows the dynamic of a college OLine?

LT Flowers (I think we saw glimpses of what they were trying to do with him this year)
LG Feliciano
C Mcdermott
RG Linder
RT Bunche

Key backups: Jermaine Johnson (he can come back, right?), Isidora, Wheeler, maybe Gadbois

The only way someone can say that OLine is "****ed" is if they don't realize that both Feliciano (who has actual game snaps at Tackle) and Linder can both kick out to Tackle. We're missing a reliable swing tackle, but have two Guards who would likely step into the Tackle spots in a pinch. If they do, Wheeler and Isidora would be able to step in. This is even a worst case scenario where a guy like Gadbois doesn't develop at all.

UM has also made it more difficult (in theory) for players to leave early. Players have to consult with an advisory committee at UM before even speaking with an agent (or any representative of an agent):

General Rule
A football student-athlete (or his/her family member) shall not have in-person contact, telephone communication, text message communication, electronic (email) correspondence, written correspondence, communication via a social networking site, and/or contact/communication by any other means with covered individuals before the student-athlete finishes his college football eligibility. Exceptions to this rule may be granted by the Department of Athletics. A student-athlete seeking an exception to this rule must submit the request to the Head Football Coach. A committee including, but not limited to, the Director of Athletics (or designee), Head Football Coach (or designee), and the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance (or designee) will consider the request and render a decision.

That starting OL is great. It's the depth that is atrocious, and getting worse. Without Seantrel back, our OT rotation consists of Flowers, Bunche, HALL  and GADBOIS . Our interior OG rotation consists of THREE  players - Linder, Feliciano, and Isidora. Our C rotation consists of McDermott and Wheeler.

Without Ben Jones, Jeremy Lewis, and Jermaine Johnson, and with Seantrel likely leaving early, this team's experienced serviceable depth has been stripped almost completely bare. Guys like Lewis and Johnson might have been JAGS, but that's still a LOT MORE than what Wells, Gadbois, Isidora, Gall, etc., have proven.

You're not wrong that the depth is hurting, but I think it's being overstated. Do you acknowledge that both Feliciano and Linder would get kicked outside in the case of an injury? Do you acknowledge Wheeler would then be in the G rotation? The interior line is one of the more versatile we've had in some time. Plus, I'm not gonna count on him, but word is Briscoe may get a look at Tackle (maybe a future swing tackle).

I think Alex Gall can come in and make noise and Isidora will be ready next year. Even without ST, our offensive line will be one of the best in the ACC if not the best.

Fwiw, I posted in the Porter thread that don bailey said in the pregame before USF that he basically expected Porter to leave early.

I can't believe Porter would seriously consider it, though I guess nothing should surprise me any more.

Semi-related, who was that FB we had who left early, circa 1996, that went undrafted?

henderson is going to be disappointed when he gets drafted much later than he should have.

I agree with you Lu. Linder, Feliciano, Wheeler, Bunche can all play multiple positions.

How many teams in college do you see bringing back an experienced 2 deep? Almost no one. We will bring back 6 guys who all have a lot of game experience (Bunche, Flowers, Linder, Feliciano, McDermott, Wheeler). Then you will have to develop Gadbois, Isidora (heard good things), Wells (?), Briscoe, Gall, Kirkland, Kerr (looking like more of a OT prospect).

Is it perfect? No, but hardly any OL situations in college are. In 2012 we will have 2 Sr, 3 Jr, 2 So, 6 Fr (3 RS, 3 True). That isn't much different then you will see around college football.

This is all assume Henderson bolts.

I imagine the depth chart would be something like this.

LT: Flowers/Bunche/Feliciano/Gadbois
LG: Feliciano/Wheeler/Isidora
C: McDermott/Wheeler
RG: Linder/Wheeler/Isidora
RT: Bunche/Feliciano/Gadbois

Then work in Wells, Briscoe. Maybe Gall, Kirkland, Kerr if they are ready.
