Player Led Practice

Scott had a friggin Cannon for an Arm....Without Question the most underrated in UM History. As far as Clement....he was a tough MFer...took some helluva shots. By 97 the sanctions were in full bloom. We had already lost 20 schollies by then. Depth was so bad in 97 it was ridiculous.
At one time it was so bad that along with the normal injuries, we didn't have enough practice players

I remember all to well...We had so many guys playing multiple positions in practice it was crazy. But Butch wanted these Sanctions done with QUICKLY....Hence, him taking the Bwl Ban and 11 schollies right off the bat. I can't count how many times we discussed this, and other topics for the day.

Sadly, we gave up around 10 schollies up front to appease the NCAA, before their sanctions ever came in.

I've said many times that Al could've been a championship coach here if hadn't fallen in love with his BFF.

A DECADE LATER he is just NOW recovering from that failure. If he does a good job with the Irish D, he might take over if the Yuckeye can't turn it around. Truth is, if Al has learned, he really could be a good coach up north, but has he learned the scorching lesson about blind loyalty to a friend....?
Well he couldn't, 'cos by multiple accounts a lot of SoFL HS Head Coaches hated him.

But in terms of the players he hit on... yeah they were the best players throughout Richt's tenure too and went pro.

Actually, Golden mended some fences that Shannon tore down. If it wasn't MNW or BookerT....Shannon had very little Rap for the rest.

Winning takes care of a lot of that stuff. Anyway, we went through a long desert and now, we've made it to the other side. We're going to have a solid year and then build on that.

Im not listening to yall bash Flagg...the more I hear from other players about Flaggs work ethic and enthusiasm, the more I like the kid.
Always thought he was a good person and teammate. I've been critical of his play. I thought he played his best game as a Hurricane in yesterday's game. He's really growing on me as a player now. Still has those 2-3 plays a game where it seems he is right in position to make the tackle and the qb or rb just runs right by him. It's not like they juke him or make any crazy moves, they just run straight by him.

The problem is we’re fans not actually playing. Glad we got coaches who hold that standard now though.
It's not on a coach to establish that. It's what @SWFLHurricane is pointing out when he makes that statement. Did our coaches love that about us? Yes absolutely. But it wasn't our coaches telling us spend every last waking moment together on or off the field. It wasn't the coaches that established our work ethic. It was ourselves and our teammates. If you wanted a spot on this field then you better show you deserve it. You better earn it. Cause it's not a calling for everyone. But if you got that in you than you got brothers. A coach simply helps sharpen that iron that you've already put on fire.

Culturally this feels different than what we’ve seen the last 20 years. The player practice isn’t on the coach but the culture mostly is on the leader. This does feel good

Erickson was a notorious lazy recruiter....that's just fact. He was gift wrapped 2 NCs by JJ....and once JJs kids were all but gone...(end of 92) things started declining. Same with Butch, once his kids were all but gone following 2004...Same thing happened. That's not a coincidence....just the Brilliance of JJ & Butch's evaluations, recruiting and development.

Erickson wasn't even allowed at certain schools for various reasons, Im told....

Tropical park was our second home. I understood what you were saying yesterday since I had some things really ****ed me off too. It's important to remember this roster needs a complete turn over. Old habits are hard to break and we're finally starting to build some accountability. But all that gets put to the test when you run into adversity. That's what we gotta break. Old habits. So while we've seen ALOT of progress throughout this off season it's important to remember it's a process. I'm proud of what changes have been made this off-season. But when the roster turns over we'll see a realistic vision of what the team will be. We need to build leadership and we need to build accountability. This is a step in the right direction. With us it isn't comparable because we were a finished product. We're looking at a sample size right now.

if we can have a 1998-type of season, it would be a really good start in the right direction.

That was the season you could see some light at the end of the dark NCAA tunnel Butch was driven into

Yeah. Give it a whirl.

Didn't only have player practices - but if you didn't make your times - or jerking off - you best stay out of the locker room as there was an old-fashioned, country ***-whipping there. They used to FIGHT and work over guys who weren't going full bore.

It works in other endeavors in life as well. No use in having a few pull hard with others slacking off, or failing to perform. It just ****es off those who are doing their best.

Some here don't seem to get that. Come out flat. Dragging ***. Moving in slow motion. ****-poor offensive play calling. For an entire half.

So yeah - Explain the other side of that - especially how failure to perform helps the team.

'Cause I don't know WTF that would sound like.
Robert Sampson agrees with this post...

It was more than that though. You'd get your *** mollywhopped. First time you didn't make your times your unit would run it over. Second time that side of the ball. Third time entire team & if it got to that point it was goin down. You wasn't gonna make it outta that gasser etc before **** was dealt with. On the practice field,on the tennis courts,in the weight room, it didn't matter. Maybe it's viewed by some as toxic but it was a form of communication we all understood & respected.
