Player Led Practice

Wait, in real life??...My life is fantastic.
I didn’t say it wasn’t. I said your issue is not being able to let go and see the forest for the trees. You rush to bring up at every given moment a bunch of very special individuals. All of whom no longer play and most have been enshrined in the hall of fame. It’s 2022. We’re not that

Well aware of that...but that's the way UM is supposed to be. The school was handed a Lamborghini....and drove that MFer off the Palmetto....You'd think (AFTER being given the Blue Print) we wouldn't be 20yrs in with the problems we had/have.

Mario has stressed the need for more talent, and it’s true. Manny was poor recruiter, so we shouldn’t think any staff is going to turn around that roster in one transition recruiting cycle and a handful of transfers. Going to take a few cycles.

As far as gameplans go, I agree with others that Gattis needs to up the tempo. Too **** slow yesterday.
Golden was the best recruiter we've had in the last 15 years.

Let that sink in.

Even last szn and under Lashlee this was a issue..it’s gotta be something man..and it’s not so much me blaming attendance either..whatever we do in morning prep to the drive over has to be evaluated. We’ll see if it’s a trend under Mario too. But today was definitely a slow start again
Kids partying the night before. Atmosphere definitely plays a part, but we’ve been *** in the 1st half of noon games for 15 years.

Yes, there wasn’t much he inherited beyond Ray Lewis, Kenny Homes, Kernard Lang, Yatil Green, and Danyell Ferguson. Clement and Covington were okay, but not ‘QB U‘ standard. Long time ago.
Erickson was a notorious lazy recruiter....that's just fact. He was gift wrapped 2 NCs by JJ....and once JJs kids were all but gone...(end of 92) things started declining. Same with Butch, once his kids were all but gone following 2004...Same thing happened. That's not a coincidence....just the Brilliance of JJ & Butch's evaluations, recruiting and development.

While I get what you're saying I also get what he's saying... What brings around that next round of players at that level begins with a mindset. A standard you hold yourself and your teammates to.

Agreed. I was just noting the few elite players Butch had to start with. Not too many. Maybe Ferguson wasn’t elite, but was good and Butch got a lot out of him. First 1,000 yard season by a Cane RB in a long time IIRC.

I've said many times that Al could've been a championship coach here if hadn't fallen in love with his BFF.

A DECADE LATER he is just NOW recovering from that failure. If he does a good job with the Irish D, he might take over if the Yuckeye can't turn it around. Truth is, if Al has learned, he really could be a good coach up north, but has he learned the scorching lesson about blind loyalty to a friend....?

Al Golden HC of the Golden Helmets. I’d have seen everything then. To be fair, he was smart to spend a long time in the NFL, hopefully learning something.

By the way, what KIA dealership is D’Nofrio working at?

Scott had a friggin Cannon for an Arm....Without Question the most underrated in UM History. As far as Clement....he was a tough MFer...took some helluva shots. By 97 the sanctions were in full bloom. We had already lost 20 schollies by then. Depth was so bad in 97 it was ridiculous.

In 98', Scott was pretty good on the balance of the year. If he had gotten one more year, he could've lit it up in 99' with all of the talent on both sides of the ball. He had one of the strongest arms we've ever had here. Ryan was gutsy and had some mobility and just enough arm, but he was with us when we needed more than a game manager because we had such a talent deficit.

Yeah, I like both of them. No Heisman winners, but you could win with them.

I remember the beating Clement took at WVU, the Tremain Mack blocked punt game. Wasn’t supposed to play due to a separated left shoulder, but Covington had something happen that resulted in a collapsed lung. IIRC. Cold, night game in Morgantown. Inbred trade school. I think that’s the game where Shannon took a head shot from a tossed garbage can. Got paid later.

Covington was solid. Great arm. Only got that one season as starter, but the UCLA game will always be part of his lore. Wish there was a GIF of him gesturing about ‘throwing in a few drinks back’ during the postgame celebration.

Ryan's favorite receiver was Jammi German, who had an excellent frosh yr in 95...led team in receiving.

Scott's mom flew in from Cali for the UCLA game. I stood next to her the entire 4th quarter. Nice Woman.

Scott threw some Lasers to Santana in 98...including UCLA game.
