The 2001 team didn't even sell out the OB on non-marquee games. This whole "if the Canes start winning, they'll run this town" narrative is old, tired, and against the greater weight of evidence of the last 30 years.
We can’t relate 2001 to current cfb. It’s a different animal. Not to mention that Hard Rock is a different animal than the OB. We have had one good season in 20 years and that one good season showed what our crowds were capable of late in 2017 season. The Florida Panthers are selling out their arena on a weekly basis. That is just flat out unbelievable given the “greater weight of evidence of the last x amount of years”

this sucks for college games

Review of Hard Rock Stadium

the way the stadium sets up for college is totally wrong they amplify the sound of music constantly and it takes away from the college experience for the fans , they forget we are not there to hear guns and roses or hip hop we want to hear the sounds of the bands the student the refs the mascot etc.. also the pricing for food and beverages is the same as the pro games, exp 5 dollars for bottle water is ridiculous 12 dollars or more for a beer is also sick not to mention the price of food

there is zero chance ZERO that the soccer stadium will be expanded to include the hurricanes. the footprint doesnt support it. there are already mayor problems with its proposed height. the FAA has determined that it is too tall and may interfere with flight operations. a bigger stadium to accommodate football would require a taller stadium, hence the NO GO. in addition, there is little to no surface parking. Where would Cutler Ridge Laz and Fam tailgate into oblivion before the game?
That's gonna be the biggest holdup with the Melreese location.... putting something tall enough...
If there would be anything to compare the situation to would be in Vegas where they put Raiders Stadium... I know it's very close to the stadium ...
Not sure if Melreese is closer to MIA than what the Stadium in Vegas is to their airport but I would assume same FAA regulations apply to some degree...

It's like that for just about any event whether it be sports, concerts..etc..
I was on Hollywood Beach this morning riding my bike on the Boardwalk and they were setting up tents on the Beach for an event this weekend and they had some menu pricing out.... As usual everything was over the top... But that's just the norm now...

Sounds like an SEC fan writing this. If the soundtrack was better I’d much rather hear City of Miami focused tracks over our band of 10 individuals. But the soundtrack at Hard Rock is terrible so it’s a toss up

That’s your argument? Some random review on yelp by a guy that longs for a small town shlthole experience.

LOL

Joe Robbie designed the stadium so it would be large enough to accomodate baseball and soccer. "We're going to accomodate them," he once famoulsly said. So even though they reduced the capacity to 65k it still has a huge footprint and feels like you're inside a cathedral unless it's 100% full at night and the fans are enraged from drinking in the parking lot for 10 hours leading up to kickoff.

the stadium and the airport would be caddy corner neighbors. the stadium would be less than a mile from the closest runway

Maybe - I'm one of the ones that thinks Hard Rock is a good spot for this team. However, it's sad to go to games and have the stadium be half empty which happens way too often.

I think the soccer stadium of 50k is an interesting idea. And someone here said people would be complaining about being far from the field... I guarantee the seats would be closer to the field than you currently are at Hard Rock.
It's been happening for years. In fact look at our NC year.

2001 UM vs Rutgers game at OB 36,000
2001 UM vs Troy game OB 36,000
2001 UM vs Temple game at OB 31,000

I long for a small town ****hole experience because that's college football. We don't need insulated cupholders that keep your drinks cold, or lazy boy chairs behind the 50 yard line that are always empty anyway because "Golden Canes" are tucked away in some lounge watching on tv dining on caviar and sipping champagne. We're lucky to have a stadium as nice as Hard Rock but if a good opportunity arises I hope we take a hard look (no pun intended).

Go tell our 5 NC teams this. LOL

Miami will Never I mean Never be a "College Town" Miami is unique as it's a blend of everything. Stop trying to turn it into something its not and never will be.

This. If Miami is going to rent a stadium, I’d much rather it be a real football stadium than some half-assed soccer pitch.
They have retractable seating and pitches. Technology is amazing and, with the right foresight, it could work to everyone's benefit.

We don't need separate stadiums for football and futbol..

They should move the stadium downtown next to the OB or explore Overtown with the Hurricanes on board. Melreese is a real estate deal just like Billy said.

its exactly a real estate deal. it isn't about the stadium but the restaurant hotel etc development.

they own the land in Overtown I believe but they don't want to build there.

also, they have stated before that they don't want to build a large stadium with 20-25 at most in mind (they wont fill past that and they want it to be loud). this was a stupid idea thrown out there by a commissioner who is a moron. I don't see rad going to this **** after hes been talking about increasing attendance at games. either way, idk how many times its been said but soccer fields don't provide good football sight lines. you may be closer to the field but you're farther away at the same bc of how wide soccer fields are. part of the reason why the sight lines sucked at Joe Robbie was bc they built it with hosting soccer events in mind. it was never meant to be a football only stadium but multi purpose
