Petrino to be Jimbo's OC

In all seriousness, how much credit do we give Petrino for those Louisville Lamar years? I am asking this as a legitimate question because I know people who basically think Petrino was just there along for the ride with Lamar lol
Not gonna lie. Petrino had some stuff cooked up for us. He had Lamar lined up at RB and did a 2-QB system where he would either run or take the hand off and throw the ball put us in a bind

A lot of people with opinions that matter have spoken very highly of him. That along with a long history of good offenses make it hard to discount him as a very good OC. That said, starting with his final year in Louisville through the Missouri St term, he has been fairly mid. I think the game has caught up to his offenses a little bit but I still expect them to be a lot better if Jimbo doesn't interfere too much. Big if

That's my #1 fear with A2M. As long as Jimbo stays out of Petrino's wheelhouse, and as long as he's not in early retirement like Steele seemed to be with us (watch him deliver a Top 5 defense at Bama, lol), I have to believe Petrino is a good enough OC to put up a good amount of points against us. Even with a mediocre QB. ... Which means we need TOs on defense, and we need to be scoring at least a TD a quarter to make this game respectable, IMHO.

+ Coley and Coach Addazio whose been a HC at 3 different stops in their Offensive room as well...theyve got some talent in those meeting rooms

A ton.

Regardless of what some people think, you can't just have some all world player at any position and not game plan for them, but they still go off come GameDay.

I'm not going to get into the specifics of how he changed his offense to suit Lamar's talents, but he did. He couldn't run what he was used to with a LaFore or Brohm at the helm, he had to change it up.

Lamar though was better than the parts that surrounded him. His OL, it was okay at best. WR's, same thing. He designed the offense to create space so that if something broke down, Lamar could use his wheels to get yards. Eventually teams would have a spy on him, still one on one he'd get results consistently.

An example is if you put Lamar on our team last year, he would've looked human. Don't get me wrong, Lamar bailed the offense out a lot, but not from a schematic POV, but from a player breakdown role.

Petrino will be a good OC at A&M. Will he be cutting edge, it's hard to say. I wouldn't put it past him, but one trend I've seen countless times with aging coaches is that they tend to go with what they know rather than put in the work they would've at a younger age. How much does he have left in the tank? He's got the talent, although I don't know their QB state, so there shouldn't be any excuses.

Everything we gameplanned for in the off season was nothing they pulled out in the game. We broke down film from the last seasons and by the time we got to the game they were doing something completely different. I dont think he has the guys to do that against the U but he'll have something on deck

They got some good coaches. Coley, Craig, Blackwell and Addazio and Petrino. The thing I always tell my kids is that the coaches don't play the game, the players do. So you coach your *** off, but if they can't execute then all that coaching is all for nothing. If them QB's they got don't do what they supposed to do it's a ball game

To be fair the last time Petrinos offense was deadly so was Jimbos
If you can ‘t differentiate the difference in the two then idk what to tell you.

Seems like with all the heat jimbo was getting for last year made him hire someone to come in and help to calm the noise but he’s still too prideful to fully hand the keys over to someone else. We’ll see how it turns out lol

Steele's biggest problem at Miami was a putrid O.

I believe he was far better for program than the credit he's gotten. I'd take him over any Diaz led D.
