Paul Johnson with a great suggestion

BTW if this happened schools like Florida Alabama and LSU would have even better years on the recruiting trail. They would have all the great athletes with good grades that are local committed and signed then they could go national.

Wrong. They'd lose their advantages. They couldnt troll money as effectively. It take longer to scout non-local kids. They'd have to try to hold slots open to see who emerges or clug up early and risk missing out on top kids.
LSU and Florida will both have double digit commits before the season starts. They have already had most of the local kids in camp last summer. Look at who is leading the charge with commits for 2014 right now Texas A & M , Texas, LSU, Florida, FSU & Ole Miss.
You're kinda missing the point. Early signees sure didnt do a lot of good for texas all these years. If you load up before the season on kids, some won't play as expected, some will get hurt, some will have gade or other issues. It's a bad strategy for the top teams, save a very few obvious kids. And non-local kids are going to be a lot less likely to sign early than local ones, at least if they are going to be higly recruited. UM might get some early so fla signees, but what so fla kid is going to sign with alabama without ever visiting there?

This idea helps the ga techs of the world, for the reasons discussed in this thread.

The media and the kids drive this circus tour.

Wrong. It´s us, the consumers, who drive this circus tour.

Actually, no. I don't create this circus. I just attend whatever show there is to attend. If they didn't create the show, I just wouldn't watch.

I get it. Some money will be left on the table if ESPN drops signing day coverage, but I'm sure they'll fill it up with a College Basketball game or an NBA game.

Totally wrong. Supply increases to meet demand, not the other way round. If we weren´t desperate for the latest update on these football playing children, there would be no incentive to "create the show".

No more "verbal" commits

NSD is only the first DAY that a kid can sign his LOI. THere's a whole 3 months after that that they can sign.

Commitments start on NSD and go all the way thru untl the last day you are able to sign. Once you commit you commit

Texas mistake was they didnt evaluate properly. Most major schools are done evaluating prospects by the time summer is over. All but two high school kids Florida sign last cycle camped at Florida and had their offer before the season started. Alabama is not going to take most kids if they dont camp in the summer anyways. The major schools will just tell the kids with bad grades to wait and sign until later.

I wholeheartedly agree. No more I'm going to commit to this school or that school. Focus on your season. Take your visits. Play your All-American games. Then on NSD and the three months following kids will be allowed to announce their commitments. The media coverage would still go insane. Because no one would know where the top guys were going until NSD. That would be good for the game.

I don't belive in committing earlier than NSD though. Because we would not have had AQM, Sandland, Elder, Lockley, and Griffin. They would have been at other schools.

EDIT: I'll wait for the answer......

It's not that they didn't 'evaluate properly.' It's that it's inherently harder to evaluate kids before their senior year than when you get to see them play as seniors. That's kinda the point. Anyone who tries to fill a class before senior year starts is going to have a worse hit-rate than that same person with an extra year of play to evaluate based off of.

Look at our school for example out of the 2013 class who did we offer before their senior season that signed with us?
Now look at all the kids that we didn't evaluate or offer until their senior year.
I believe there is more of the latter in the 2013 recruiting class.

Florida Alabama LSU ..... are done with most of their evaluations before a kids senior year starts and they are on to evaluation 2014 and 15 kids. They make sure most of those kids camp before their senior year. That is why getting kids into camp is so important to those schools. They take a few late bloomer but not many.

What about LSU, Alabama and UF screams great athletes with GOOD GRADES? Tons of those "local" to those 3 Harvards of the South.

I'm not ****ting on UF as an institute of higher learning, but their football players make more news for other aspects of their "high" achievements not related to the classroom.

How about this, great athletes that are in really good shape to qualify.
