Idk what I believe. All I know is I’m going to be a canes fan regardless. My pain tolerance has no limits.

Right now everything sucks. Last season was the worst ever. 2023 recruiting limped to the finish. Spring game sucked. We’re failing in the heart of the 2024 recruiting cycle. It’s safe to say the state of recruiting will fall below expectations before the start of the season.

Maybe we miraculously have a great season and everything changes. Maybe Mario’s changes to the staff and roster turnover will payoff. Sports and life is like that sometimes.

All you Lane trainers need to recognize. Even Auburn $EC money couldn’t steal Lane from Ole Mi$$. If he was here post FAU, dude was getting poached by the $EC anyways.

Mario is reaping what his 5-7 season sowed last season. It’s not like Mario just all of the sudden forgot how to recruit or the NIL has dried up. Idc who you are it is difficult to recruit after a season as bad as last years. 5 stars aren’t going to play for a program who lost to MTSU

Mario has to win this season. And not some minor incremental improvement. He’s got to win 9-10 games before Bowl Season. All Mario did was prove every single detractor right last season. It’s going to take a monumental season to turn recruiting around to the level Mario wants.

I haven't voted yet. Which one does this fall under?

Also, and I can't stress this enough. This locker room as been a mess since '04, (thanks Larry). Various coaches have tried various ways to fix it. These kids fall into a toxic culture of nihilism fast, often finding Miami attractive because of its toxic culture. So many players, so so many have been total PoS in terms of their commitment to changing things. They completely went mutiny on him after A&M. He was begging them to rally and they just don't care. We need some guys that aren't afraid of getting their teammates scholarships pulled. You know how f*cked up you have to be to **** off Dieon Sanders so bad he humiliates you on TV? Every year some transfer guy comes in from some nowhere place and is our best receiver. Very few players have taken this game seriously over the years.
I've always wondered how the toxic player culture played in. I can't even type what I think about it without deleting because it doesn't come off right but there's something there regarding the type of 4-5 star kid that has picked us from 2013 to now excluding the 2018 and 2023 classes.

Even before that. We are talking back to the 2002 class. This all goes back to Larry Coker. He let the inmates run the asylum and no coach has fully corrected that since. We used to be the work hard, and play hard program, but the work was mandatory. Larry let that go, and recruited the most talented guys and he did so with the play hard recruiting angle. Every coach since has been dealing with that in the locker room. Shannon was too passive aggressive, Golden didn't care about Miami, Richt didn't have the energy, Manny embraced it and Mario is here trying to figure it out. My guess is he tried to stamp it out and bam, team mutiny. He needs his young recruits to step up and run the party guys out of the program.

It's funny because I had all my buddies in my group text telling me TVD didn't get along with WRs, and Jake was that guy they all gravitated to. I was explaining to them, that's not the good thing you think it is.

I will say... as far as season results go... Mario had to coach last season without his fastball (strong o-line play). Many coaches will struggle without their fastball. I think the key to this season rests on the health and play of that unit, and if they can pound the football like he wants, to safely have TVD play like a game manager. If he can go 7-5, win a bowl, he can maybe cobble together a class in the teens.

CIS saw the state of the OL in December and knew it was a big weakness. 2 OL gurus saw it and chose to bring in two cultural fits from Oregon instead of reinforcing the leaky dam…

7 wins would be **** poor. He flipped the roster…

No disagreement from me. I thought he should have portaled in 4 OTs minimum. He needs his fastball to win. The OL last year was atrocious and I'm hoping that this year's unit can put him into some kind of comfort zone.

I'm actually not too too concerned with recruiting as I might make it seem. Like I said before, I'll give it to August before I even slightly panic. What's most important to me is how Mario has this team looking during the season. And not even just about wins and losses. How are we going to look. Are we going to be prepared? Will we get any blowouts? Will we get blown out?? Will mid game adjustments be made?
Agree with all except the August part. At this point, Mario has to win with what he has, which according to the recruiting websites is more than what’s at every other opponent on our schedule outside of Clemson and Texas A&M.

How we look in the fall will ultimately be what matters most. You build it up and they (recruits) will come.

Mario got that ‘23 class due to his success at Oregon and now he’s struggling because no one wants to hear about what happened at Oregon, they want to hear about what happened at Miami in 2022, hence most of our class being evals and few sure-fire Top 100/200 kids. It may not be what ppl want to hear but AT Miami, we have to win on the field to get the elite kids. Mario’s first year bump/honeymoon that @Rellyrell talks about is over and it’s time to win football games.

I'm not panicking either. There's plenty of time to put together a good class. But... the energy on this board is a reaction to the false dreams being sold by so called insiders.

7 regular season wins coupled with 1 bowl win isn’t enough either? I say if he can get 8 total wins, that’s good improvement.

I would agree with you that 7 wins wouldn’t place me in a great place. Heck we got 5 wins with arguably the worse UM team statistically since Howard Schnelly took over.

It’s not enough to move the needle and TVD likely isn’t playing in a meaningless bowl unless he “needs” to, so the bowl game will be hit or miss most likely…

I’m not going to put that on the insiders…if anything these guys are giving us what is given to them, be it by players/staff/handlers etc. Can’t shoot the messenger is the way I see it. Inday and a few other posters said it from the jump that in so many ways the staff didn’t truly understand how things work down here if they thought they could still recruit at a high level after the abysmal 2022 season we had. I have largely agreed with that notion because I’ve never struggled watching UM games until last year….I still watched them but it hurt…really bad. Outside of MTSU, the Pitt game hurt the most personally because we had an opportunity to at least earn a bowl berth and finish with some positive momentum in what was otherwise a complete crap show….and our kids didn’t even show up.

And the 2024 kids and their parents/coaches all watched this go down…2024 recruiting was going to be a battle the moment the 2022 season ended. Heck I’m surprised we got the 2023 kids to sign, I think we should all be grateful that Mario held that class together.
