I am definitely more patient with coaches that most- and older than most. I see the benefit of continuity and consistency.

I remember the time I was out on each guy

I was never in on Coker as a coach and thought it was a mistake hiring him

shannon
Golden
Richt
Diaz- knew it was a terrible hire but thought his political background he may be able to make it work.

I liked Lane but was completely on board for Mario once choice was made. I was very worried last season that keeping Gattis too long would have larger ramifications but still had faith in the recruiting that he could turn it around. Liked the new hires- although i think we could have done better with a different head coach and 100% WAY earlier in the process if these were going to be the choices. Regardless the point of the post- unless things change dramatically this month. This is my point of being out on Mario. Too many red flags- with the personnel process and choices being number 1. And getting a recruiting class in the mid teens- we done.

I never viewed Mario as being the right hire for the old way of doing things, which is to try and ball on a budget. For that, I wanted Lane Kiffin. But Miami assured us this was gonna be a huge investment, a total program rebuild, and for that I can understand the trust they have for Mario. That said, after the worst Miami season since Randy Shannon, I think their investment is going up in smoke, and in my opinion they need to double down on bags for recruits. It's the only way it works going forward.

I was pro Mario because of the investment that we were putting into it. I told the board I thought he would win in February and set us up to win in the fall. He had to recruit at an elite (top 5) level most years but thought he would be able to do it. Then last year hit and I saw just how bad his game day coaching and staff selection was. Now the need to recruit at that level is even more urgent…which we are not close to meeting. I turn 40 in 6 years so maybe by then

This Is Fine GIF

I will say... as far as season results go... Mario had to coach last season without his fastball (strong o-line play). Many coaches will struggle without their fastball. I think the key to this season rests on the health and play of that unit, and if they can pound the football like he wants, to safely have TVD play like a game manager. If he can go 7-5, win a bowl, he can maybe cobble together a class in the teens.

Also, and I can't stress this enough. This locker room as been a mess since '04, (thanks Larry). Various coaches have tried various ways to fix it. These kids fall into a toxic culture of nihilism fast, often finding Miami attractive because of its toxic culture. So many players, so so many have been total PoS in terms of their commitment to changing things. They completely went mutiny on him after A&M. He was begging them to rally and they just don't care. We need some guys that aren't afraid of getting their teammates scholarships pulled. You know how f*cked up you have to be to **** off Dieon Sanders so bad he humiliates you on TV? Every year some transfer guy comes in from some nowhere place and is our best receiver. Very few players have taken this game seriously over the years.

So now we are praying to end up where Diaz left us, at 7-5. 2 years later and $80M poorer to end up back to square one.

I was and still am a Lane guy. But given what others have already reiterated - the alleged investment into the program made sense to hire someone like Mario. Even if it was going to take 2-3 years, it was the right hire.

Except now that we’re back to penny-pinching, they completely f^cked over everyone.

I'm actually not too too concerned with recruiting as I might make it seem. Like I said before, I'll give it to August before I even slightly panic. What's most important to me is how Mario has this team looking during the season. And not even just about wins and losses. How are we going to look. Are we going to be prepared? Will we get any blowouts? Will we get blown out?? Will mid game adjustments be made?

i chose the 3rd choice

I wanted mario but now that i look back at the process of how we got here and it makes me unsure if this will work.

Like others have said in this thread, we liked mario because of the full investment into the program that came with him. But that thought alone kills me because any program thats 100% all in on fixing a sports program wont pick and choose who they will spend money on, they would go thru a real search and choose whoever they think is the right person to lead the program.

We just chose someone with connections again man that **** kills me inside to know the last 3 football coaches we hired came with no real search, all just miami guys that are connected with the people who have money. Extremely disappointing, but it seems like since they pick and choose who to spend with we have to hope and pray mario things right..not because he’s a savior or last hope but because the higher ups haven’t showed they will commit to the program no matter who’s there

Mario is the worst game day coach I’ve seen on either the Canes or Dolphins. The Texas A&M game had some insane decisions and timeouts.

mustache dave was worse. Easy. And probably Cam Cameron too.

Both of those were better than Danny Miaz.

I wouldn’t argue with 4th

I still think we will be okay but i also had realistic expectations. What’s going on in recruiting right now was unexpected though and some doubt has crept in. In the end I always was doubtful that Mario would return us to the promised land but I did believe he could make us respectable again, a 10 win team with a playoff appearance every now and again. Then again I thought Richt would do that as well and we know how that turned out.

The powers that be at Miami FINALLY decide to invest millions of dollars in the football program. Who do you think they’re going to trust with that process? Lane Kiffen or Mario Cristobal?

Year 1 of the Mario era was a disaster. He’s dug himself a deeper hole that’s going to take even more work to climb out of. He’s hired new coordinators and flipped the roster. Positive results on the field this year are critical to gain momentum in recruiting and show signs of progress in HIS program.

I still believe Mario can/will turn this around.

Last year was a debacle. Bad hires that didn't fit our personnel.

He was able to land the #7 class and a top 10 transfer class cause Ruiz was going to fund Mario no matter what cause that's his guy. But once Ruiz money started slowing down, he wasn't going to fund as much anymore. Now the other boosters/NIL investors, want to see results on the field before giving more money to a recruiting class that we won't see the benefits from til 2024 the earliest. Which I think is why recruiting is down right now. But I still believe he can land a top-10 class. And what he misses out on in recruiting, I believe he'll go make happen in the portal with the funding from boosters who see improved results on the field this year.

Everything he needed to change, he did.

Coordinators ✅
Upgraded 2 deep✅
Leaders on both sides of the ball ✅

I believe we'll go 8-4 this year, and we'll see a much-improved team overall. One that will have those calling for Mario to be fired, to chill out.
