Pat Surtain, Jr. is now a 5 star on Scout

Quite a few things I would like to discuss in regards toward Surtain.

For the life of me, I do not understand the Patrick Surtain Jr. hype at all. He's a great prospect but not on this whole other level that some Broward coaches and these sites are trying to build him up as (being rated #1 corner on 247 and a 5 star on scout, he's definitely a 4 star but I don't think he's earned the prestige of a 5 star). Seen him live a few times between games & camps. This whole thing how they're treating him and acting like hes on another level compared to guys like Blades, Campbell, Jobe, Samuel Jr., Frierson, Bolden, etc. is waaaay off IMO. They're all in that same tier.

I was at The Opening at American Heritage. Guys like SS3, Bandy, Blades Jr., Samuel Jr. & Surtain Jr. were in attendance.

The best corner at the event was Asante Samuel Jr., head and shoulders over the others. He completely shut down his competition. He's gonna get knocked for his size by sites and people but as a pure cover corner, he was the best at the event and I truly believe he's the best cover corner in his class for 2018. Obviously Blades, Surtain and Ivey have more potential due to their size, but right now... Samuel Jr. is the best cover corner in the group.

On the topic of Surtain, I feel Tyson Campbell is the best DB prospect on that American Heritage team, but Surtain definitely a close second. Believe Coach Macho or gogeta4 has mentioned this as well.

Tyson can play corner or safety on the next level.

Samuel looked like butt at that Atlanta event where Jeudy was killing everyone.

Two different events. He was great at The Local Opening.

From what I saw though from the Rivals Challenge, Al Blades Jr. looked great.

Jeudy got quiet in 7on7 portion. Jeudy is a little inconsistent but the right coach can get that out of him. He's hit or miss.

LOL at the turds who just parrot that LSU **** because they heard someone say it.

What's the big connection to LSU? There are a hundred connections to UM, and all you have for LSU is that his dad grew up in Louisiana. Didn't even go to LSU but grew up there. LULZ

Does his 7on7 coaches count who he hangs out with every week or every other week and pretty much year round?

7 on 7 tells me all I need to know. Those kinds of guys love L$U and other $EC programs. So there'$ your L$U connection.

AH has instilled a strong SEC presence over the years. Miami really needs to do well on the field to get in there and pick up kids. Problem is not even Rumph, the kids want to play for a winner. Despite what some think, Rumph tried to push some of his kids UM way when he was there but they went elsewhere (Michel, Gibson)

I understand that the local event was different than the one in Atlanta. He got chewed up in Atlanta from the video I watched. I like Samuel's ability, but to say he's better than Surtain is a stretch.

From the multiple times I have seen them, I felt Samuel was the better cover corner. Live games and events. Now with that said, I think Surtain has a higher ceiling than him going forward.

Surtain Jr will be a Cane.

Rumph was instrumental in Surtain Sr. getting the Heritage job.

You could see 6 CB's in next years class.

DJ Ivey
Josh Jobe
Gilbert Frierson
Al Blades
Patrick Surtain
Ty Campbell

If we got/took those 6. More than likely Jobe & Frierson would play safety due to the range they play with.

I don't see Surtain happening. Campbell could if Miami does what it needs to do on the field. Win.

Campbell would be a corner or safety depending on need.

Several people on the AH staff were telling Gibson that UM was the much better fit for him.

IMO, ASamuel Jr isnt one of those guys that will "wow" you at a camp. He seems to be a gamer to me. Some kids are just like that. Put them in a camp setting and they are "hit or miss". Put them in between that chalk and they aint missin'...all hits. Ive seen Samuel Jr multiple times live and ill take him any day. What he lacks in ideal size, he makes up with fire, heart, and technique. Just like his pops.

Tyson Campbell is criminally underrated, even as a high 4*...

Is UM a favorite for Campbell?

Clemson is the favorite right now, but things change...

This yes. Clemson in the lead at the moment but we are in the game. I believe Tyson played little league for Rumph too if I recall correctly.

That's right, if I remember correctly, Rumph was his 1st coach and had him until he took the position job at AH. That's gonna be a hard relationship for other college coaches to undermine...

He said in an interview that Rumph is a father figure to him. Gotta believe Rumph can close that deal.

If he leaves for college, I'm telling you it's gonna be because of one of or a combination of two things. He really just wants to leave the area(he definitely doesn't give me a vibe like he feels like he's gotta get outta here, family life stable, no life or death circumstances to "get away" from), and/or the complete failure of the Richt era. I'll let you cays know a few things about Tyson personally. He's an even better young man off the field and he's very loyal. He's the antithesis of average SoFla recruit. He's never been a hired gun, wasn't raised to be one. Part of the reason why he came into HS with less hype than guys like Surtain Jr. was because he stayed loyal to his park, West Miramar. His 7th Grade year, his team played against North Dade in the Orange Bowl Championship. That team had Nayquan Wright and all those future All-Americans. North Dade won but Tyson got his. After the game, Row & them boys were trying to add Ty to their team but he wouldn't budge. He could've left AH after Rumph left, but he stayed. I just don't see him falling for what's in a recruiter's bag of tricks. Another thing I'll let yall know, when it comes to his family, we'll be angling for the home team. We're all Canes fans, and there are even a few UM alumni sprinkled amongst us. **** I've been pitching the U to him since he first started playing.

Would Jobe be elite if he hadn't gotten so far behind in school? Two years ahead of everyone is a huge difference
Wonder the same thing. Was he on varsity as a sophomore? Freshman? Also i dont understand how some of these kids get left so far behind. If they have that severe of a learning curve how do they graduate with a degree?

FCAT is why. Jobe was a casualty of that along with starting school a year late.
So what about the main question of shouldnt he have been dominating two years ago.

Man who gives a ****. ALA has Calvin Ridley who is **** near 21 already and no one is complaining about it...FSU had Kelvin Benjamin and he was old as **** too..its about time we got one too..A "ready the first day" grown man who will dominate. What better position then to have him in the secondary? Im glad he will be 20-21 when he steps on campus. It means he will be ready to bust heads the first day.

Im not saying its bad but Ridley was always a beast and i dont know much about Kelvin. All im saying is if i could have played varsity baseball at the age of 20 i may have had a chance to go d1 instead of going juco first.
