Pat Surtain, Jr. is now a 5 star on Scout

Jobe and Surtain are the top 2 CB's in the country next year.

I think Jobe is gonna be a CB.

Na, it's probably going to be Surtain, Blades, Burns/Samuel at CB with Frierson, Jobe, and Campbell/Tyreke Johnson at safety

Everybody keeps on forgetting about Tyreke Johnson

Quite a few things I would like to discuss in regards toward Surtain.

For the life of me, I do not understand the Patrick Surtain Jr. hype at all. He's a great prospect but not on this whole other level that some Broward coaches and these sites are trying to build him up as (being rated #1 corner on 247 and a 5 star on scout, he's definitely a 4 star but I don't think he's earned the prestige of a 5 star). Seen him live a few times between games & camps. This whole thing how they're treating him and acting like hes on another level compared to guys like Blades, Campbell, Jobe, Samuel Jr., Frierson, Bolden, etc. is waaaay off IMO. They're all in that same tier.

I was at The Opening at American Heritage. Guys like SS3, Bandy, Blades Jr., Samuel Jr. & Surtain Jr. were in attendance.

The best corner at the event was Asante Samuel Jr., head and shoulders over the others. He completely shut down his competition. He's gonna get knocked for his size by sites and people but as a pure cover corner, he was the best at the event and I truly believe he's the best cover corner in his class for 2018. Obviously Blades, Surtain and Ivey have more potential due to their size, but right now... Samuel Jr. is the best cover corner in the group.

On the topic of Surtain, I feel Tyson Campbell is the best DB prospect on that American Heritage team, but Surtain definitely a close second. Believe Coach Macho or gogeta4 has mentioned this as well.

Tyson can play corner or safety on the next level.

Surtain Jr will be a Cane.

Rumph was instrumental in Surtain Sr. getting the Heritage job.

You could see 6 CB's in next years class.

This is absolutely correct.

not saying 247 knows better but they dont even have us listed as one of his top choices.

I don't know what 247 knows, but you can't come up with a reason for Surtain, Jr. to go anyplace other than UM.

Yeah, heard the same think about Patrick Peterson for a few years as well. I'll wait for the ink and hope your right.

UM

Scout has Jobe as the #2 Safety in 2018

Well deserved IMO. Jobe is Elite.

I mentioned before back when Frierson committed. Jobe & Frierson can play Corner or Safety but I feel you limit the great range they both play with by putting them at corner. Maximize their ability at safety.

I was a little iffy about Jobe as a possibility at corner at first, he played it last year after Marlin Brooks was out for the season for Columbus. He got better as the season progressed but I really feel he has shown this spring that he can play corner at a high level just as much as he can at safety. He was the player of the day during one of the UM 7on7's that Booker T was playing in.

Frierson has had a big spring as well. He was lights out at one of the UM 7on7s, got in Marco Wilsons face as well, Coral Gables team won the event. I wouldn't say he's as polished as Jobe right now, Frierson still a bit raw but he can be elite too with the right coaching.

As for where Surtain goes. LSU as of right now, Miami will certainly have a shot due to his dad and Rumphs relationship.

I have heard and been told that Surtain Sr. has been in his son ear about LSU for some time now.

Wish Jobe would have reclassified instead of going prep next year. Good thing is, he will enroll early for 2018.

Would Jobe be elite if he hadn't gotten so far behind in school? Two years ahead of everyone is a huge difference

As for Jalen Patterson. He didn't play a lot of DB for North Marion last year. He played RB for them. I have been told that Miami really hasn't had much contact with him since the new staff came in. This goes without saying it is believed he has been using us to get the FSU offer he wants. I don't expect him in this class.

As for Thomas Burns, I didn't expect him in the class anymore after Richt got hired and I started to wonder what other capacity we can bring him in. Track, as Pete had mentioned in a recent update. He's a good kid and very respectful but the talent pool of DBs within the state for 2018 is BIG and very different compared to other years, sadly he doesn't match up with the top of the line targets that we're pursuing.

Surtain is all LSU, he's even said it multiple times. Not saying we can't change that but y'all gotta stop making stuff up lol. Rumph gonna have us right.

3-4 corners and 2-3 safeties would be RIGHT in 2018

CB- Blades, Ivey and Cambell
S- Jobe, Frierson

Would be perfect to me and whoever after that would be extra

Wonder the same thing. Was he on varsity as a sophomore? Freshman? Also i dont understand how some of these kids get left so far behind. If they have that severe of a learning curve how do they graduate with a degree?

I've read that on these boards a million times and I've even recited it several times. I just think that he is more open to UM than people think. I also think UM makes a lot more sense for Pat and the Surtain family for Pat to stay at home.

FCAT is why. Jobe was a casualty of that along with starting school a year late.

How about Asante Samuel Jr.? Dad played at UCF and his son is at Aquinas. I wonder what the staff thinks about him and if he's interested.

Both sides are interested. Where it stands right now? A Miami vs FSU battle for him. I was told that his father has a preference for his son to play at Miami. We were the leader for him at one point but last season whole mess and everything kind of washed that up. He goes back and forth between Miami and FSU, who knows a year from now.

Now the good thing helping us is that he's very close with Al Blades Jr. & Elijah Moore.

LOL at the turds who just parrot that LSU **** because they heard someone say it.

What's the big connection to LSU? There are a hundred connections to UM, and all you have for LSU is that his dad grew up in Louisiana. Didn't even go to LSU but grew up there. LULZ

Does his 7on7 coaches count who he hangs out with every week or every other week and pretty much year round?

Recently on 247, they had an interview with Surtain, where he said Rumph is a good coach that can teach the "Basics" of the CB position. That isn't exactly a glowing endorsement of Rumph for someone that I'm sure has NFL aspiration to learn more about the corner back position than the basics.
