This might be the biggest mystery of Mario’s tenure. The kid has all the tools you could ever ask for and is being taught by O line royalty. How he hasn’t won a starting job is crazy.
Mario and Mirabal certainly know what they are doing along the OL, but maybe their acumen there has been slightly overrated?

maybe just maybe
he realised he wasnt such a stud afterall
after getting to college
and he knows he needs to develop and hes choosing to develop under arguably one of the best in the business
seems Oline is generally less diva and more likely to accept development

so say half the d jumps in. - was it really worth keeping Guidry here lol
No we need ALL the defense to jump in with the exception of 1 or 2 players for it to be worth it keeping Guidry this long….

then hopefully the staff would ask and he'd take a cut to his NIL to what a p4 backup tackle makes, otherwise still a waste of funds

Why would he leave right now? Probably no other school would pay half what we’re paying him right now. Also, he’s with the best line coaches in the country

I think you’re crazy. If these backup players are getting big deals a former 5 star who has been here for 2 years under Mario someone will pay. Always will.

You thinking half the D jumps in before they get back to miami Saturday to meet the deadline?
Playing in the pop tarts bowl was the important they waited to the night of deadline.
Could someone sure but doubt it's a lot

I think it’s certainly overrated. More of our commits have been low 3 star projects like Tripp, Frankie, the orlando kids etc and not many blue chippers. Of the two blue chippers, only one is legit with the other being a complete bust to date.

The only diamond in the rough type who’s really excelled is Cooper, and even he took a step backwards this season.

I think it's fair to question some of the recruiting evals, but our OL has been really good two years running after being awful the first year. I don't question their ability to get 5-6 OL ready to perform at a high level. We'll see if the developmental guys (I include Samson in that group despite his 5* ranking) pan out or not.

We have had a very good OL and I agreed with that in my post but very good is not the bill of sale is it? It has been that if it’s not the very best, it’s right there, and right now I think it’s reasonable to maybe not be the case.

Just to be clear your saying: Our OL has been very good, but not elite, and it's fair to criticize M&M because it's been very good but not elite?

(Not trying to be a ****, honestly wasn't sure what you were arguing)

Yes, the original post I replied to said they were confused on what happen with Samson as he was being coached by OL royalty. My reply was simply that while they obviously know what they are doing along the OL, maybe we have overrated them.

I think given we are going into year 4 and we have yet to recruit and develop a center, hopefully SJ changes that. Along with LT after Rivers leaves is up in the air and we need more of the current recruits to step up with depth, it’s a reasonable statement.

Got it. Agree on the C recruiting. Losing Lew set us back there, and as you said it looks like they finally got that straightened out with SJ.

I don't know enough about other teams' OL to properly rank ours, but I would guess there aren't many teams that would trade their OLs with ours over the last 2 years, and I think thats a credit to Mario & Alex.

I thought McCoy did a pretty good job as first time starter at Guard this year, Cooper took a small step back/treaded water this year (think I saw somewhere on here that he had a lingering ankle issue, that could explain it, I guess). Bell at LT next year might be the litmus test as to whether Mario and Alex are truly elite OL coaches (leaving recruiting evals aside). I'm bullish on him and think he can be great at LT, if we can develop him against the speed rush. However, if he gets whoever the **** our new QB is killed against ND, then it's probably fair to say we overrated them a bit WRT OL coaching.

EDIT: I'd also like to see us make a leap running outside the tackles next year. We've been elite running between the tackles the last two years, and while we generated more explosives in the run game this year, they usually happened late in the game when we had worn the defense down. We weren't much a threat to get explosives in the run game early in games. Get better at running outside the tackles and we should be next year.
