Got to agree. That is bold. Borderline retarded, which I hate to say cause I respect your opinion. But come on, we return no one at the skill positions and you yourself started a thread on the OL a few days ago, warning that they might not live up to lofty expectations, no?
Admittedly I do not know the rosters of the rest of the ACC top to bottom, but if we are the best offense in the conference then things are bad.
There's nothing bold about it. We've had the most NFL talent on the roster every year we've been in the league. It's the safest bet there is. The only thing as consistent as Miami talent is our fan base underrating and under appreciating that talent. We're not the best offense yet, but I've seen these guys up close-- nobody is matching their size and ability at every position.
The playmakers that you two are talking about (Miller and Streeter) didn't do much until last year. Same for Hankerson and Berry before that. Skill players will emerge-- this isn't the Coker era, those Greentree stars have real ability.
While the OL will take time, I put their talent against anybody in the nation. Stoutland said straight up that their talent blows away Bama's. Nobody in the ACC has those kind of athletic, 315+ pound beasts, and they separate us from FSU (which is the only team I see as comparable). The skill guys are Miami skill guys, just young. The tight ends will be future pros, just like Richard Gordon turned out to be. They have the size, speed and coordination. Morris has more NFL talent than any quarterback we've had in two decades.
I stand by my statement. FSU has the most future pros on defense. Miami has the most future pros on offense.
A few thoughts. First, like I said I respect your opinion and do not get access to practices and insight from coaches, etc, like you do. I can only judge on what I have seen, which includes both who we had that is now gone, and who is here that has played in prior seasons.
If you chose your words carefully, as I imagine you did, you said we had the most talented offense in the ACC, not the best. This seems to match up with your thoughts on future pros on the roster. When I originally disagreed, my instincts were to refute "best offense;" "most talented" is a different animal, one which I admitted I am not qualified to answer because I don't know other teams rosters, or exactly how good our frosh really are, aside from the articles I read here.
To take it even a step further, my retort to your original post compared last year's team to this years, when, in fact, that comparison has no bearing on UM having the most talented team in the ACC this year. Can you tell I'm a lawyer yet?
But if the analysis does hinge on last years team vs this years, I expect more of you as than to drink the Grassy Kool Aid. I've been on boards about 8 years, first Rivals, then Scout now here. I've seen it every year, so I am just not buying into the freshman hype. One or two might end up being quality contributors this year, but if you have to play 15 frosh week 1 like AG said we would, you're facked.
Offensively, I don't buy the Morris thing yet. Everyone likes to isht on JH12 when the reality is he was a 4th year started last year and played very well. Downplaying the loss of Miller is a huge mistake. Streeter may have emerged last year, but TB was consistent for what, 3 years straight? And the TEs simply just dont impress me as much as other people. Actually, I completely disagree with your other thread and am one of the guys who feels OL is our strongest unit. I think they dictate our success (easy to say for obvious reasons i.e., opening holes, time for Morris, etc, but true nonetheless).
I hope I am wrong, but I just don't see enough talent ready to contribute right now to get us to any more than 7 wins, max. I do, however, love AG and think we are looking at long term success.
