For this upcoming season the biggest ? are QB then OT then CB and linebacker depth then DT

Agreed, but with the Striker position and our depth there, I'm not that worried about LB, and I think we'll be fine at DT as long as one of Jon Ford or Nesta step up. They are both talented enough to break out this year, so I feel pretty confident that at least one will. Basically, the top three concerns/question marks are way out in the lead over #4 and #5 in my mind, as of right now.

I was thinking Scaife at RT, Campbell at LT, and Herbert backing up Scaife.

Zion came in as first tackle off the bench for the spring game. Campbell was an option and got passed over by a high schooler.

Where is all this optimism regarding Campbell coming from?

Didn't know he got passed up. And now I know lol

The LT's (for game 1 at least) will be Scaife/Nelson.

As the season progresses, we could end up with Nelson as the starting LT & Scaife kicking out to RT.

I don't think Zion will start, but the staff has raved about him all Spring, so after we play UF & settle in to the rest of our ACC schedule it's a possibility, you never know.

OU wanted Tommy Kennedy, or at least so we have been told. So far, that's looking like a bust.

Don't count on anything until you see it on the field. Hopefully he helps us this year, but I'm going with the perspective that there is no downside here and will just hope that the upside pans out.

That's a fair point, though Kennedy is more of an exception than a rule. I agree he looks like trash right now. As we put more emphasis on increasing our toughness overall but in particular on the offensive end, I put some stock in evaluations from programs that have more recently performed at a high level on this measure. Traore might turn out not to be very skilled, but I feel confident that he will be tough.

To say Campbell got passed up is premature, Zion is a LT & Campbell is a RT & has played some at Guard in the Spring.

The RT competition is wide open & still has a chance to get that spot. The official OL hasn't even lined up once together because Gaynor was out the entire Spring & the entire line had to be reshuffled.

Wait till Fall camp before we start throwing dirt on caskets.

If Zion turns out to be our best T by mid to late season, we are either in a world of hurt (that an undersized true freshman is the best we've got) or this line will be absolutely incredible by the end of the season (if Zion is really the goods and has put on good weight and is really that supreme of an athlete to come in and truly be a P5 legit starter at tackle as a true freshman). What's he weighing now, anyway?

So, you're saying we're out of IC's for 2019? Does that mean we can't take a grad transfer with only one season eligibility left?

Thanks for the info, it's been a while since we needed to worry about some of these things.

So, we've got the big ? at QB, obviously, then we've got a lot of talent at S, but have lost a remarkable amount of production at that position, so that's ? #2 for me. The third biggest ? on this team, to me, is CB depth. If we could find one guy who could be counted on even as a #3 corner for this season, I feel like that would go a LONG way. Right now, if we lose Bandy, Ivey or Blades, we're in a world of hurt at that spot. And Ivey and Blades have proven nothing at this point, so that includes a big assumption that both of them are ready to play.

By my count, we are out of 2019 Counters, but it's not easy to track and I can't say I'm 100% sure (mainly because of walk ons receiving scholarships and some of those recent rule changes). I think @DerekDohrman and @Cuban-Cane have been keeping track of this as well. Maybe they can confirm my suspicion.

I do believe we have reached the 25 but its a bit confusing

I'd take a LB with two years left that could be depth this season and compete to start in 2020, I guess.

As I mentioned elsewhere in the thread and as some others have said, I'm not that worried about LB with the fact that we really only start 2, McCloud can fill in at either spot behind Pinck or Shaq, we have good depth at the Striker spot, and I bet Finley would actually fill in pretty nicely at one of the LB spots with Derrick Smith, Amari Carter, or Gil Frierson filling in the Striker position if we really got in a pinch.

I'm far less confident that we have anyone that can adequately fill in at CB if we lose Bandy, Ivey, or Blades.

I don't think Zion will start vs UF, but at some point in the season I wouldn't be shocked if he did eventually get some starter snaps. He's up to around 270lbs as of now & still putting on more weight.

While it's not ideal, it's happening a lot more throughout college football.

Alex Leatherwood played in 7 games his Freshman year at Bama
Saahdiq Charles & Ed Ingram started as a Freshmen for LSU
Foster Sarell & Walker Litle started as a Freshmen for Stanford
Andrew Thomas started as a Freshman for UGA & was an All-American
Ken Jarvis started as a Freshman for Michigan St
Jack Anderson started as a Freshman for TTech
Cesar Ruiz started as a Freshman for Michigan

In 2018:
Cade Mays started as a Freshman at UGA
Penei Sewell started as a Freshman at Oregon
Creed Humphrey started as a Redshirt Freshman at Oklahoma

Herbert had a better spring than Campbell, campbell was routinely beat off the edge in the spring game. I think Herbert took a step forward this spring
My money is on Campbell in the Fall, Herbert doesn't have the natural strength of Campbell & is going to struggle vs Speed rushers just as he did in HS.

Those two things have nothing to do with each other.
Yeah I wanted to know who the commit was.
But that doesn’t mean I can’t take issue with him breaking it.
If a gator writer broke a kids commitment then retracted it we would be all over it. But he gets a pass cause he writes for us?. It bothers me cause we know that social media is important to these kids And he knows it. This ain’t happening at the schools were competing against and that also gets me upset. If it doesn’t get some on here upset, cool free country and we can agree to disagree.

focus less on this faux outrage and more on real issues w recruiting
