Our Safeties: biggest problem on this team.

im not that concerned with safeties.

We pretty much know what we will get....

we have two guys that are "solid" tacklers....both lack long speed and range though...but both have experience and will provide some sort of leadership(VT atleast) to a young d-squad.

One problem on our d more important than safety to me will be @ dend.....who the heck will rush the passer?....we have a grand total of 5 dends......2 of them are severely undersized and the others have done nothing much outside of Chick(whoo is just a solid edge rusher).......not getting much f a rush will force us to blitz ...which will leave our safety guys your worried about having to cover alot more ground than normal.

I'm not that worried about our safeties because i know their limitations and what too expect from them....hopefully our d-cord can figure out what they do best and put them in position to suceed an not pigeonhole them into something their not.

I agree with you that DE is a concern, I'm hopeful that Cain, McCord, and maybe even O'Donnell can have an impact opposite Chick. With the S we have I see us having real issues again on the deep ball and with terrible angles. I forgot about R. Jenkins, hopefully he can make a quick transition for us because we desperately need his athleticism back there. My main hope was that Crawford would play well enough to take one of the S spots, now with him on offense we are looking at another year of VT and RRA.

knowing what their limitations are the coaches need to put them in positions to succeed. like everyone's favorite coach once said "you can't trade 'em"

I agree with you, but with the limitations of our S, Coach D will be stuck again playing a bend don't break style because he will be afraid to blitz knowing what he has playing center field. I hope I'm wrong and both VT, and RRA have huge senior years, just not expecting it. I hoenstly would love to see what RRA could do at TE, seems like he may have been able to find a home there earlier in his career.

The Safteys - in fact the whole **** defensive backfield - would look better if we had a pass rush... Without that QB's will just cherry pick our Defense.

If we don't have a pass rush and have an underwhelming secondary, then one way to mask this weakness would be to play a bend but don't break defense. Which we pretty much did last year. We all know it's ugly and grueling while we're witnessing it. We have no patience for that sort of thing.

I think u guys are over thinking all of this... VT and ray ray will do a great job this year. This is the begining of the season, sprng at that... give them a break. They are getting all the rust out.... you have 2work your way up 2 football shape and speed they arenot there yet... everything will fall into place soon... just watch what I tell you... Ray Ray and VT will have an all american year... and might also increase there draft stock! Time will tell just watch and see!

LOL

We don't really have one proven playmaker on the entire team, offense or defense if you think about it. We need guys at every position to develop into something we haven't seen from them yet.

Pass rush and depth at the DE spot are bigger concerns, because heat from the front 4 masks deficiencies on the backend. But S is a concern. Not enough speed, athleticism, range or instincts from either Ray or VT. I definitely see another rough season defensively, and it won't improve until overall athleticism and talent is improved along the DL. That's where it all starts.....

we are looking at year 1 (basically) of a complete rebuild. it is gonna take a while. I just hope we can beat those ND ***gots

i don't think a bend but don't break defense is the only alternative to a blitzing defense. can be aggressive in coverage while dropping 7 into coverage. play CBs tight to the line of scrimmage with safety help over the top. forces the QB to actually have to be able to throw accurately - even if the coverage isn't great. giving up hitch routes and WR screens all day just makes it too easy.

Slow, and lack the ability to put themselves in a position to compensate for that lack of speed.

They are ok when you put'em in the box and let'em go downhill, but get them going sideline to sideline, its rough to watch.

VT and RRA aren't your ptototypical ultra-athletic Miami Hurricane type S's but they're far from Miami's biggest problem.

i feal like in the next couple years recruiting classes we need to put our best athletes on defense. were just not athletic and talented enough back their i think

Agree they're adequate in run support, but the angles on off tackle runs are still an issue and at some point you need your senior S to cover up the fact they we will likely be playing 3-4 true freshman at CB.

I forgot about Jenkins, hopefully he's a fast learner and can adjust to the speed of the college game.

Agree, but then you take away from the skill positions on offense. The problem was that we missed on way too many kids under the previous regime and are left with Freshman and Sophmore playing tons of snaps.

ya but part of me would rather have the playmakers on defense then offense.

which i didnt understand at all with our d....it was like taking candy from a baby...literally..and it actually caused us a game or 2....Maryland being one of them.

Imma be honest...CORCH...is a better d coach than D'ONOFRIO...

Coach D needs to show me something this year...mix up his playcalling..get a little more aggressive..

Playing your cb 8yds off the wr isnt doing them any justice...it was comical watching that last yr..as we made BUMS look good at qb...even Bethune's qb.

You think this year´s bad? Who the fvck is going to play safety for us next season? Kacy Rodgers, Armbrister and HIghsmith will be the only ones on the roster. Maybe the underwhelming Rayshawn Jenkins? Gives me nightmares thinking about it. I pray there´s some juco kid out there who can come in immediately.
